  1. Doyi Kha - Text version. Original here: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Doyi_Kha
  2.
  3. Personality & Appearance
  4.
  5. Doyi is an odd sight, even when it comes to the already odd sight of Auri across Eorzea. Her green skin isn’t a sight that is encountered a lot amongst the Xaela of the Steppes but within Eorzea, her looks might truly be unique.
  6.
  7. Even from a distance it is clear that Doyi has seen a rather harsh life, even ignoring the fact that she has a black rag cut to be a makeshift bandanna concealing her left eye-socket. Another striking feature is that there’s a black stripe covering the entire section where her eyes are, a mark of persecuted criminals across some regions of Eorzea.
  8.
  9. The rest of her body and general demeanour show that Doyi is a weathered individual. She is covered in little scratches and a larger scar made by a blade on her left arm. Her body is slim in nature but she has rather pronounced muscles on her arms and legs from a very active lifestyle. Although she looks young for her age, up close she is riddled with small wrinkles around her eyes along with a generally weathered and default angry look on her face.
  10.
  11. That being said, Doyi isn’t very angry in her personality by default. Being a member of the Kha tribe of Xaela diplomats, Doyi is used to square herself away at the expense of herself in favour of others. That being said, a range of events in the last few years have caused Doyi to be much more cold in her demeanour, especially to strangers. However, she is still extremely professional when conducting business and to friends she is generally much more ‘sweet’.

  15. The Shepherd
  16. 6th Astral Era – 1540 to 1555
  17. Doyi was born 39 years ago on the fringes of the Azim Steppes into the Kha tribe. Although her parents were sheperds, they were also successful traders who sold their milk and cheese to the populous around the outskirts of Doma. Apart from Doyi, the family consisted out of five brothers and two further sisters of which Doyi was the youngest. Although she wasn't aware of it herself, Doyi's parents had made plans even during her early childhood that their youngest and final child would be the one that would conduct their family's contribution to the Kha tribe: Travel west and bring back any knowledge about far off lands to the tribe when Doyi would grow old. It did occur to Doyi however that none of the other families send their youngest child away to travel. Later in life Doyi started to wonder if it was because of her odd green skin which was a rare occurrence amongst Xaela. Did her own family want to get rid of her?
  18.
  19. Although Doyi didn't really learn any skills as a warrior during her time in the Steppes, she did learn all there was to know about being a sheperd: Making cheese, keeping milk fresh and trade. Especially the latter would later aid her in her work as a dancer and smuggler. As Doyi reached adulthood in the eyes of the Xaela, her parents finally broke the news to her that she was chosen to represent the family's honor within the tribe and was asked to travel west. Although at first Doyi felt betrayed, the trust that was placed in her was so great that she was ultimately humbled and convinced by it and accepted her duty. To this day though, Doyi feels a sense of distrust and betrayal now that she is older to have fully understood what happened to her.

  21. The Journey West
  22. 6th Astral Era – 1555 to 1572
  23. Doyi's journey west started without much incident through Doma which she had already visited rather often with her parents. However, her path took a turn for the worse when she finally reached the cold and icy mountains west of Yanxia on the border to Thavnair and got caught in a blizzard. Alone and disoriented, she got lost in a mountain valley until she was eventually rescued by a pair of sherpa's who brought her to a mountain monastery. Having escaped nary from death, it was here that during she was nursed back to strength that she came into contact with the Monks of a the secluded Order of the Triple Headed Snake with an obscure triple-headed-snake goddess called Lishmana as their patron deity. The Monks specialized in the three teachings of their faith: Strength, Wealth and Honor. Strength through their skill in hand-to-hand combat, wealth through shrewd business practices and finally honour ensuring that no 'cheating' would take place, though breaking any law was still fair game from her own perspective and that of the other denizens within the monastery.
  24.
  25. Doyi's stay at the monastery would give her invaluable knowledge for the rest of her life as it gave her an easy means of defending herself without any required weapons. After a year of doing odd jobs and learning the basics of the order's teachings, she continued her travel west and eventually cross the sea to Thavnair. It was here that she would start to exploit her rather 'exotic' appearance as a dancer of seduction. Although all of it was a lie, she even faked herself a ludicrous cover story for her dancing, acting as if she was the daughter of a three-headed serpent dragon goddess and that she was brought on this world to swoon all men into submission. Funnily enough, most of the guests in taverns and bars where she worked ate this story up with a passion which allowed Doyi to become a rather wealthy woman.
  26.
  27. Some time later, Doyi’s travels took her to Garlean occupied Ivalice where her cover story caught the attention from one of the local Legate's of the capital region of the occupied country. Although Doyi had received such requests for 'entertainment' before, these were always compensated with a decent amount of Gil. However, the Legate was not intend on paying Doyi anything but instead wanted to have a ‘scaled savage slave'. Doyi promptly refused on the spot but sadly, this meant that she had brought upon the ire of the Garleans. When she resisted being forced upon and used her horns to impale the Legate's arm, she was arrested for 'harming an Imperial Officer' and thrown into jail. Luckily, her meditation and teachings allowed her to escape in a way she does not wish to elaborate to many.
  28.
  29. With the ire of the Garleans firmly in her neck, Doyi decided to travel further west to Eorzea where she eventually settled in Ul'dah. Along with her 'ludicrous' cover-story, she quickly became a reasonably known member of Ul'dah's collection of dancers. Though with fame, also came corruption and over time she slowly descended into various acts of smuggling illegal incense. With the right friends though, she always remained out of the picture in the investigations the local guard organized. And her teachings as a Kha gave her a metaphorical silver tongue to talk herself out of trouble.

  31. Riches to Rags to Fame
  32. 7th Astral Era – 0 to 7
  33. Although the Calamity had it’s profound effect on trading Doyi’s smuggling ring continued without slowing down. It was in fact Doyi’s network of smugglers that caused her to gain control over at least a small portion of Ul’dah’s illegal incense trade. It caused her to become a rather rich woman over a period of just a few years.
  34.
  35. Doyi’s weakness as a smuggler leader was however that she didn’t have her own gang of henchmen and instead relied heavily on her contacts. As Doyi became more powerful, so did the risks which eventually caught up to bite her in the rear. She was betrayed and arrested by the Brass Blades. After a short trial she was branded and marked as a criminal for life. She was presented with the choice to either rot in a prison dungeon for ten years, or fight for half of that duration in the Bloodsands: Ul’dah’s Gladiator Ring. She chose the second option with the hope that her skills would aid her.
  36.
  37. It was here that Doyi underwent a transformation from a graceful dancer to a weathered and aloof gladiator. She was quickly confronted with the fact that her skills in hand-to-hand combat were worthless in a place littered with axes, swords and spears. Every day was a crude crash-course into learning to fight for survival. Although she experienced countless losses initially, causing her to lose her left eye during one of these events, there wasn’t any other choice than to persevere.
  38.
  39. Slowly but surely Doyi started to become better through training with the Gladiator’s Guild and she started to ascend the long path of climbing the Bloodsands leaderboards. It took her two years to become champion in her designated fighter group and two more years to reach the top 25 of the general Bloodsands championship.
  40.
  41. At that point Doyi also started to win prize money which started to use to build a new life in preparation of becoming a free woman once more. This allowed her to buy a house shortly after she was released from her servitude several months later.
  42.
  43. A New Beginning
  44. 7th Astral Era – Present Day
  45. Following her release from servitude, Doyi continues to be a common face amongst the Bloodsands fighters but now as a free woman with free choice and will. Over the past few years she has even gained a bit of popularity amongst the crowd, having gained the nickname ‘Dodgy Doyi’ on the leaderboards.
  46.
  47. Although Doyi has regained her freedom, the past years have left their toll on her general demeanour. She is quick to reach for alcohol, is addicted to a form of medicinal incense she smokes and has a much more cynical outlook on life than her old cheerful ‘Kha’ manners. Despite this however she is generally friendly to strangers and friends albeit somewhat sour, aloof and sometimes just plain zoned-out.
  48.
  49. Apart from still occasionally fighting in the Bloodsands, Doyi is also heavily involved with the Adventurer’s Guild and takes on odd-jobs for various Free Companies. It appears she is rather ‘purposeless’ in life right now, but the work she does for the Adventurer’s Guild is becoming more and more appreciated by both the guild and the people of Eorzea. Maybe she will become a shepherd for people instead of the sheep across the steppes?
