  5. *an element is a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. an atoms is the smallest particle of an element an atom has a fixed composition because it contains only two types of atoms.*

  9. mixtures tend to retain some properties of their individual substances. but the properties of a mixture are less constant than the property of the substance *the properties of a mixture can vary because of the composition of a mixture is not fixed *

  11. in a heterogeneous mixture are noticeably different from another.
  12. homogenous the substances are so evenly mixed you cannot distinguish one mixture in the substance from another.
