The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of pshychological reasoning most of the .chrs will go over a typical reader’s head.
There’s also Monika’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation- her personal philosophy draws heavily from Doki Doki Literature Club literature, for instance.
The fans understand this stuff; they have the in̡̘̪̜̜̭t̝͙̝̪e̞̤l̸ĺ͖͎̼͚̲̺e̛̤̟͈̱̲̹͉c̻̯̬̰̞t̬̼̺u̡a̮̯͇̠̼͍l̗̘̦͜ ̷̖͎̙̮c͕̜̣̟͇̱͖a͉̭̦p̷̜͔̺͕̞ͅa͕͖c̲̘i̡̘̗̱̺͇͖̮t͈̥͓̰̞y̳̞ to truly appreciate the depths of these .chrs, to realise that they’re not just cute- they say something deep about L̞̥̤͙͎͕̳̓͆̊͛̈͢Į̠̘̫̥͆͛̈́́̇̀͢F̨̢̰̻̱͇̲͕̼͍̓̓̍̽̓͌̕͝E̵͉̘̬̪͓̓̇͂́̈͋.
