   kai lan usually has a bright smile, regardless of the situation. she was gifted with a voice of varied tone to match her wide variety of facial expressions, which have turned her into somewhat of a meme in the fandom. most of what she says comes across as a joke (which most of the time it is), or not very serious, which can cause frustrating situations.
   gifted with a small stature, her temper reflects it, as it's pretty easy to make her angry. if you do manage to piss her off, be prepared for a huge dose of the silent treatment. if you share a room with her, she'll be sleeping in the attic that night. she allows her emotions to take precedence over logic, when it comes to making quick decisions, and will always follow her heart. she isn't afraid to take risks, and sees rules as more of a suggestion on what to do rather than what they actually are. her determination is fierce, and she works tirelessly at everything that she does. no matter how menial the task, she won't stop until it's perfect. unless it's cleaning. she really hates to clean.
   she's stubborn, and will stick to her beliefs no matter what. that is, unless she has been provided a reason as to why her way of thinking is incorrect, but that rarely happens. this trait of hers makes it almost impossible for her to lose an argument, as she always thinks of something to say that will counter whatever point someone is trying to make. though her intimation factor (which is incredibly low) also plays a bit of a role in whether she wins those arguments. because if she can't think of a valid argument, she'll just smile at the person until they become uncomfortable and back off.

★ Background:
   lin kai lan was born in macau in the autumn of 1997. She attended 'escola secundaria sam yuk de macau', and currently seoul school of performing arts for the last two years of her education. she became interested in the singing arts after she participated in the school talent show as a drummer in her band between friends. kai decided to pursue a career as a trainee when visiting seoul at the age of 13 as part of a student exchange, and her breath was taken away with the pure atmosphere of music.
   she was told a lot about it by her korean exchange friend, and was instantly fascinated by the dancing and the visuals and the success these idols gained. she decided to try and learn a k-pop dance for fun, with her exchange friend, and decided to dance for fun anyway as it made her really happy. she was advised to maybe become a professional dancer by her friends back in macau, and realised the oppurtunities to make a living out of what makes her happy were endless at an entertainment company. shortly after, she auditioned for jyp in person numerous times but was rejected due to her lacking vocal skills. she auditioned for sm three months later and was accepted for her rapping and dancing skills. as a trainee, she often saw it as a competition and would overwork herself into early hours of the morning, but she told herself this was the price to pay with stardom.

⌹ His Personality: he’s one of the more laid-back members of the group. he gets his work done cleanly and efficiently so that he could have enough time to play, to say the least. he’s always smiling and joking around with the other members, though at first glance he may seem a bit standoffish. he strikes people as someone who’s a bit shy at first before getting to know him and realizing how much of a goofball he can be. he fluctuates between being confident and doubting things about himself, which may mean he’s always looking for ways to improve or change. along with his members, he seems to go along with any plan they might have, stupid or not. the calmer mood maker, if you will.

⌺ How they met: kai lan and kihyun didn't meet in your conventional way - kai and another groupmate were talking during an awards show (mel0n, mama, etc.), judging everyone's outfits, making unneccasary comments about how hot that one guy looked, that kind of girly stuff. after monsta x recieved an award, kai said rather loudly and with a lot of gusto, "well damn, kihyun looks hot". she just kind of sat there awkwardly, after most people sitting near her heard her, and for the rest of the night she couldn't stop thinking about how much of an idiot she looked. she decided to make the best of a bad situation, and upon running into him backstage, instead of staying away from him with the darkest blush on her face, she went up to him and told him "well done" and gave him the thumbs up. as you can expect, that wasn't the best idea, and as soon as she did it she regretted it. she vowed the next time she saw him, she'd apologise for her weird behaviour. so when she ended up in the waiting room with monsta x backstage at inkigayo, she told him to forget about his terrible first impression of her, and the two of them talked for the whole waiting period. they eventually exchanged numbers "as friends" and still talk to this day. (eventually, they will admit their feelings to each other like such a cliche)

⌻ How they act around each other:
   for her ー kai lan was almost her usual self around him in the beginning, except she kept laughing nervously and biting her lip. when she started to realise what an interesting and generally nice person kihyun was, she started to loosen up around him. she often tells shitty puns and jokes around him, because she knows he won't mind. she doesn't mind acting like a complete fool in front of him because she knows it doesn't matter. she feels very enlightened by his presence. when they finally became a Thing, there was a lot more sweet talk and "make me". she finally found like she could act freely around him and she loves that.
   for him ー kihyun acted very chill around kai for the first few days, not particularly eccentric. he saw how she essentially got more comfortable around him as their friendship developed, and finally let his "true" persona out. there's a lot more eyesmiles and winking when he's with kai, and certainly a lot more involuntary swearing and meme-making. he was always his usual self around her, a naturally kind and happy person. he always treated her like a friend, even when she would act cold towards him. he found himself slowly falling in love with her, and let it happen. he likes to hug her from behind and rest his chin on the top of her head, and every time he does that he feels nostalgic. he acts very much like his normal self, except pretty suave, and is always trying to build the sexual tension.
   relationship ー kaiki is the cheesiest couple out there; and also the cutest couple. there are lots of random forehead kisses, cheek pinching and pouting. those typically follow after a sarcastic, "you're ugly" from kai and a surprised "what's that? you think i'm the best looking guy alive? thank you" from kihyun. when they're at home together, expect a lot of singing competitions, jamming to the stupidest songs ever made, kihyun cooking the food and kai grudgingly doing the dishes while they exchange sided glances. she likes waking up to is blinding smile and saying, "thanks grandpa" after he makes her breakfast in bed. a typical lazy day with kaiki is her sleepily asking him to sing and him laying down to use her thighs as a pillow. they both send each other videos and pictures of the members being stupid, along with selfies and cheesy texts. they often go shopping for skin care products out in town because you absolutely need to have the purest skin, calling each other "grandpa" and "froot loops" back and forth. in short, kaiki is that one relationship you wish you could have.
