- I tried this with some articles. I mean you can stuff a few keywords in your articles, that's fine, but when I ranked, if you changed your main keywords (replace your main keywords in the articles, images, al tags) Google will destroy your site.
- I thought Google Bot will crawl my site and rank my keyword but No. They slap me even with high quality articles. I guess I trigged their spam filter. Shit ! I dont know when It will appear again.

- I feel you, I encounter the same case. Now lesson learned the hard way.
- Have you considered that this new keyword is on another competitive level?
- Maybe it takes more than the links you got to rank it or maybe it does not meet user intent in that context than the other keyword did.
- Why would you have interest on changing your main keywords? You mean recreating the site or something?
- Have you considered that this new keyword is on another competitive level?
- Why would you have interest on changing your main keywords? You mean recreating the site or something?
- Because I targeted a competitive keyword that make my article hard to rank on the first page.
- Maybe I'm not understanding you
- But if you are already ranking for bulldogs, and maybe you want to rank for dogs which is more competitive, why would you remove bulldogs keyword which is already ranking?
- Do you mean moving the "bulldog" keyword from key positions like title, H1 and all that to change it for "dogs"? Or we are talking about a completely different scenario.

- I tried to rank a competitive keyword, it appeared on the page 3, but It's hard to get on page 1 even though I built backlinks that's why I decided to change the main keyword, I changed everything from title, keyword in the articles, al tags. Then it disappeared.
- So why didn’t you just created a new in depth article for the new KW you want to rank for?
- Because of my laziness and, it's the same topic. For example, I targeted the keyword "buy VPN" but it's hard to get then I deciced to change to "the best VPN services 2019". I cannot write about the same thing with 2 articles.
- You are wrong about thinking it’s the same thing, “buy VPN” and “best VPN” could easily fill 2000 words (and more) article for each, you need to search the web for similar structured articles to see the difference.
- Get the old article back, keep it, look for the content gap between your original article and the articles that are ranked top3 positions in the SERP and add the missing information to your article as well.
- Create a whole new article about the best VPN services, or even buy an article from very talented writer and ask him to create an article that is better than the ones ranked at top 3 for “best VPN”.
- Add a spice of relevant and quality backlinks, some social signals and wait for google to rank you for the new KW as well.
- P.s.
- Don’t forget to link the original article to the new article.
- Did you roll everything back?
- Dude, your keywords were on page 3, which meant it doesn’t even matter whether it is ranked or not. It’ll appear again, dont sweat it.
- How long ago did you make the changes? I have done the same previously, and it just took a few months to bounce back. With your example of VPN, you should be fine as essentially you would have buy and best in the same article anyway.
- Also, if you were on page 3, you have not lost anything anyway.

- LIke a month ago, Woa Does it take a few months to reappear? That's a long time.
- Depends on the site, but it took mine a few months each time.
- I think you could have tried to rank for both at the same time.
- With your example, buy VPN and best VPN 2019 could be both informational intents. The buy VPN could be more of a buy intent obviously, but within a best top VPN 2019 article it could fit perfectly.
- For example: Meta title: Best VPN 2019 compared. An authority buy VPN Guide
- Just always think in terms of intent satisfaction of the given query. So if you could satisfy the query within the same article, just expand it, and modify accordingly. You may see a drop in the ranks, but considering that your post may even increase from the original one, it may lead to new interactions (or even more long tail keywords rankings)
- Why you should change something what is going good ?
- Like you will change a light bulb because is not broken ... lol
