  1. There's been a major upheaval in the book world this past week with the news that Angus & Robertson and Borders have been placed into administration.

  3. It is true that there are major challenges facing the book industry in Australia. The Coalition for Cheaper books recently led a campaign to allow booksellers to import books directly from overseas rather than depend on local publishers. The argument that this would result in cheaper books for consumers was upheld by the Productivity Commission, which recommended opening the market. The government however, rejected the advice under pressure from local publishers who feared income and job losses.
