  2. @Niko (poolcool2) do u have any experience with making games, like not dst modding but making an entirely original game like with game maker or whatever of the sort
  3. or coding, w/e
  4. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:23 PM
  5. I tried Unity for a bit but never got too far but that was it. so short answer, no
  6. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:24 PM
  7. RIP
  8. how can i learn to make a game  i have a bunch of ideas that i have tossed around for years now, but now im rly in a mood to try making an hd rpg type game that is like, super character driven
  9. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:27 PM
  10. Hm... well what engine do you want to make it in?
  11. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:27 PM
  12. Im not sure, that would depend on the limitations and what said engine would let me do, ig. like, definitely more complex than rpg maker
  13. im actually not sure if it would be classified as an actual traditional rpg, but be like, a game with rpg elements like character portraits and dialogue choices, frequent character interactions, and a turn based battle system but it wouldnt really be your usual top down rpg style game
  14. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:29 PM
  15. I would recommend Unity, but that is just because it is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

  17. yea it has some ideas from paper mario (and by extension, the steven universe rpg games) where it's like, self aware but not in a trying to hard kind of way, im not sure if it would actually be like a sidescroller or it'd be more like a uh, well, maybe it could pass as a top down rpg like zelda but then it would have all the fancy stuff during actual encounters
  18. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:33 PM
  19. Sounds like a neat idea
  20. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:45 PM
  21. it would basically be an adventure starring garamonde (what else, right lol) and he would end up in this strange unfamiliar world where he would have to abide by rpg rules. he would be super confused at first and his powers wouldn't work in this world so he would be very weak at first. there would be a lot of choice making which would reflect the overall direction the game would take. when faced with a situation or an encounter, he will usually be faced with making a decision to fight, run away, or something else relevant to the situation. there would usually also be interactions, with either friendly characters or enemies. im not even sure how this game would work since there are a million different directions it could go, and im not sure where to draw the line. i basically dream of a game where, somewhat akin to undertale, your choices matter in the grand scheme of things, every character including every enemy has some type of personality, and the story even progresses in its own way if garamonde is defeated, gives up or makes the "wrong" choice at any point.
  22. oops didnt mean to hit enter but yea, it'd just be a ton of fun to have like, enemies react when they defeat you, or you decide to do things that a game wouldn't typically let you do, things like that
  23. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:48 PM
  24. That sounds super fun! Might be a lot of work to make the world react to so many interactions, however Undertale did it, so why couldn't your game.
  25. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:48 PM
  26. i think it could be split into "paths" of sorts, kind of like the way uh, don't kill me for this, shadow the hedgehog does it, with multiple endings depending on what you do
  27. i basically just love any game where things outside the norm happen, like enemy characters have personality beyond just a couple dialogue lines (for example in spyro games the enemies have happy reactions when they attack you), the hero doesn't always win and you get to see what happens as a result, and just things like that
  28. games that put that kind of effort in earn a special spot in my heart
  29. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:52 PM
  30. Yeah, those are always fun concepts and can really catch the player off guard for a very memorable moment. Oneshot comes to mind... because of course it would...
  31. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:54 PM
  32. in reality, the game itself probably wouldn't be overly complex or even super long, but i think it would have a lot of possibilities and potential for replay value with all the different options and outcomes, so the "hardest" part would probably be writing all this dialogue and story xd but that's where I'd have the most fun I think
  33. i jsut want a chance to explore some of these character interactions i have in mind and their overall development
  34. Niko (poolcool2) — Today at 4:57 PM
  35. I think you have what it takes to eventually be a really good game designer.
  36. Garamonde (They/Them) — Today at 4:57 PM
  37. :relieved: ty niko
