- Final Fantasy V
- Platform: Snes / SFC
- Released: 06.12.1992
- Based on: NTSC-J-version (SHVC-F5)
- - DON'T EVER RUN AWAY FROM BATTLES!
- - You can pause the game during battle. This pauses the play time counter
- as well.
- - Base stats:
- Lv | Level
- Chikara | Strength (Str)
- Subayasa | Speed/Agility (Spd)
- Tairyoku | Vitality (Tai)
- Maryoku | Magic Power (Mag)
- - There are only four playable characters, with minimal variation between
- their base stats. Only HP and MP increase from leveling up. Damage will
- still increase from leveling up, as the level figure itself is used in
- the calculation, as seen below.
- - The damage calculation still revolves around multipliers and base power
- values like in the previous installment, but the end result is fairly
- different thanks to the all-or-nothing hit/evade rolls and minimalistic
- random variable. Specifically, physical damage is calculated like so:
- ATPm * (Offense - target DFP) * e
- Offense =
- a. ATP + 0,(ATP/8) (Swords, katanas, spears + enemies)
- b. ATP + 0~3 (Knives, whips, bows)
- c. ATP/2 + 0,ATP (Axes/hammers)
- d. 2*Lv + 0,(2*Lv/8) + 3 (Unarmed with Kakutou)
- ATPm =
- h. Lv*Str/128 + 2 (Swords, katanas, spears, axes/hammers)
- i. Lv*Str/128 + {Lv*Spd/128} + 2 (Knives, bows, whips)
- j. Lv*Str/256 + 2 (Unarmed with Kakutou)
- e = Elemental variable
- W: Weak (2)
- R: Resist (0,5)
- I: Immune (0)
- A: Absorb (-1)
- - Calculation i is identical to h in practice, as the Lv*Spd part does
- not function properly, possibly intentionally.
- - In calculation c, target DFP is divided by 4.
- - Accuracy is not a visible stat anymore and it's defined solely by the
- equipped weapon. ATP multiplier and Magic Evade are not visible, either.
- - Press left in the camp menu to adjust your formation. You can switch
- positions and individually set characters either in the front row or back
- row. An enemy is considered in the back row if there's another enemy closer
- to your party, and their sprites don't overlap horizontally.
- - Press left or right during battle to access the Defend (Bougyo) and row
- change commands. Defending halves the ATPm of an incoming attack.
- - ATPm is divided by half, possibly twice, if the attacker and/or target
- is in the back row, and the attack is not long range in nature.
- - Critical hits deal double damage and ignore DFP. Only fists and katanas
- can deal critical hits, though (this is apparently intentional). Enemies
- don't have a critical hit roll, but rather, a critical hit is treated like
- any other attack that the enemy may end up using as a result of their AI
- script. Enemy critical hits generally deal 1,5x damage, but they do not
- ignore DFP.
- - Magical damage equals
- Mag-m * (MagOffense - target MDF) * e
- MagOffense = base + 0,(base/8)
- Magic multiplier = Lv*Mag/256 + 4
- - When multi-targeting, MagOffense is divided by 2 unless the spell hits
- all targets by default.
- - There are eight elements: Fire (F), Ice (I), Thunder (T), Water (W),
- Wind (N), Earth (E), Poison (P), and Holy (H).
- - Enemies never have regular resistance (0,5x) to any element.
- - For more detailed information on damage calculation, check the algorithm
- guide on GameFAQs.
- - The ATB system has been reworked and features much better optimized
- code. It's now much smoother, faster, and more balanced. This also marks
- the first appearance of the iconic ATB gauge.
- - ATB charge time = 120 - Speed + Weight/8. The counter aims to decrease
- at a rate of 1 per 2 frames, but easily stretches to 3 if there's a lot
- going on. Either way, once the counter reaches 0, the subject can act.
- - Abilities, including magic, have no charge time, with very few exceptions.
- - In the first round, ATB = regular ATB - lowest ATB + 2.
- - Armor now have Weight values, and the character's total Weight value
- has a very minor impact on ATB. Enemies have no Weight value.
- - The ATB gauge is a graphical representation of ATB values from 128 to 0,
- not that it can't exceed 128. You can turn off the gauge in the settings,
- in which case you'll be able to see both your cHP and mHP during battle
- instead of just cHP.
- - Adjusting Battle Speed in the settings does *not* alter ATB charging
- speed. Instead, it adjusts the length of the ATB pause that occurs when
- a character's command menu pops up, like so:
- Pause Message
- 1 | 0f 1 | 32f
- 2 | 15f 2 | 64f 60f = 1 second
- 3 | 30f 3 | 96f
- 4 | 60f 4 | 128f
- 5 | 120f 5 | 160f
- 6 | 180f 6 | 192f
- - By far, the biggest change from FFIV is the class system. The game
- features 22 different classes that you can freely switch between once
- obtained. Each class has its own stat modifiers, equipment restrictions,
- default Abilities, and can generally learn 3-7 Abilities by gaining AP
- from battles. Most classes have one free slot for Abilities you've learned.
- You'll have nearly all of the classes obtained before the end of World 1.
- - Setting certain abilities in the free slot can have a drastic impact
- on the character's Strength or Magic. Eg. the Monk has abysmal Magic by
- default (it doesn't really need it), but setting one of the magic schools
- (White, Black, Blue, etc.) in the free slot will grant the Monk a decent
- Magic stat. Conversely, a mage class can get decent Str by setting one
- of the Equip weapon abilities in the free slot.
- - The default class, Suppin, has no equipment restrictions, but also has
- no innate Abilities beyond the basic Attack and Item commands that all
- classes have (save for one). However, it also gets two free Ability slots
- and gains the innate Auto-Abilities of all the classes the character has
- mastered.
- - Sadly, there's no way to prevent the game from messing with your gear
- when all you do is change an ability. The game will automatically either
- unequip everything or equip the strongest equipment available. (Changed
- in the 2023 version.)
- - Each map area has at most four different encounters.
- - The world maps consist of 64 map sections at 32x32 tiles each. Different
- terrain have different encounter sets.
- - Aside from a regular battle, battles can also be either a Pre-Emptive,
- in your favor, (1/8 chance) or a Back Attack, in the enemy's favor (1/16
- chance). A pre-emptive battle adjusts the first round ATB by adding 90 to
- the enemy's ATB, whereas a back attack adds 60 to yours and reverses your
- formation. The usual first round adjustment is then made afterwards.
- - You can technically run away from battle by holding L and R, but you
- should *never* do this. The strongest weapon in the game loses 1 point
- of ATP every time you run away, so just don't do it.
- - In stark contrast to FFIV, enemies only have at most one item they can
- drop, and the odds are either 100% or 6,25% (1/16), with the latter being
- the general norm.
- - You can once again steal items using Nusumu, but you can only steal one
- item from a given enemy. Enemies can have two different stealable items:
- common and rare. The general Steal success rate is 40% (double with a
- Thief's Glove). If that roll succeeds, another roll is made to determine
- if you get the rare item, with odds of 10/256 (~4%).
- - Enemy AI scripts typically involve randomly choosing an action from a
- group of three possible actions (1/3 chance each). A confused enemy will
- randomly use moves that they're able to use when being controlled.
- - The inventory has 256 slots for items, which is more than enough for
- all the items in the game (about 215). You can't have the same item in
- more than one slot.
- - If you want to translate any of the Japanese words, just punch it into
- jisho.org.
- - Status ailments/effects:
- Doku (Poison) | Lose 1/16 mHP every 3(20+Tai) ATB / 1/64 per step on field
- Regen | Gain (Tai*Lv)/16 HP every 2(110 - Mag) ATB
- Bleed | Lose 1~2 HP every 8 ATB for 255 ATB
- Kurayami | Accuracy/4 (Darkness)
- Chinmoku | Unable to cast magic for a while (Silence)
- Nemuri (Sleep)| Unable to act. Negated if physically attacked.
- Mahi (Paral.) | Unable to act for a while
- Haste | ATB charge halved
- Slow | ATB charge doubled
- Stop | Unable to act for a while
- Konran (Conf.)| Attack allies. Negated if physically attacked.
- Rouka (Old) | All stats except Lv decrease by 1 every 10 ATB
- Kaeru (Toad) | ATP=3, DFP=0, Eva=0, MDF=0
- Kobito (Mini) | ATP=3, DFP=0, Eva*2
- Levitate | Unaffected by ground-based attacks
- Berserk | No control, Auto-Attack, ATP*1,5 (Kyousenshi)
- Bunshin1/2 | Evade one/two physical attacks
- Protect | ATPm/2 for incoming attacks
- Shell | Magic multiplier & Accy / 2 for incoming attacks
- Reflect | Reflect spells at the opposing party for a limited time
- Zombie | Attack allies. Can't die.
- Sekika | Petrification (essentially dead)
- Instant Death | Instant death (ID)
- Removed | Removed from battle
- - Effects not removed after battle: Poison, Kurayami, Chinmoku, Toad,
- Mini, Levitate, Petrification, and Zombie.
- - Poison timer for enemies = 3(20 + Lv) ATB.
- - Silence doesn't affect Blue Magic.
- - The duration of limited time effects may vary depending on the source.
- Eg. the Silence spell has a base duration 180 ticks, but when caused by
- an enemy's special attack, it can have a base duration of 240 ticks.
- - Healing Old will remove the ailment, but it won't revert the stat loss.
- They're only restored after battle. For enemies, Old affects Lv, Mag, Spd.
- - Auto-Regen has a bug that may set the first character's timer to 30 (60
- ATB) after the initial round, resulting in faster regeneration than normal.
- - Healing items:
- Potion | 50 HP Dokukeshi | Poison
- Hi-Potion | 500 HP Megusuri | Kurayami
- Ether | 40 MP Otome no Kiss | Toad
- Elixir | 100% HP & MP Uchide no Kozuchi| Mini
- Phoenix no O | Revive with 25% HP Kin no Hari | Petrification
- Tent | 1000 HP & 100 MP (all) Seisui | Zombie
- Cottage | 100% HP & MP (all)

- ===== World 1 =====
- Default (Butz): Broad Sword, Kawa no Fuku
- - You start off at Level 1 with 3 Potions, 500 gil and the key item
- Katami no Fukuro (Temp). Your default class is the Suppin.
- - Check the Config. Here's what I (tend to) use
- Command shitei Tanshuku (Command Input)
- Cursor ichi Kioku (Cursor Position)
- Saisoubi Subete hazusu (Auto-Equip)
- Controller
- Y - Confirm
- B - Cancel
- S - Map
- - Do try out the alternate command window (tanshuku). Instead of the
- typical vertical list, the alternate one has the commands in cardinal
- directions, allowing you to access any command with a single d-pad input.
- It does take up more horizontal space, though, so enemy names are mostly
- blocked vs only slightly blocked with the regular one.
- Item: Phoenix no O \\\ Tycoon no Inseki ||
- - You'll meet Lenna and Galuf, who soon join the party.
- Item (nc): Pendant A (Key) \\\ Tycoon Region ||
- Default (Lenna): Knife (Unique), Kawa no Fuku
- Default (Galuf): Kawa no Fuku
- PCs: Lenna Lv1, Galuf Lv1
- \\\ Kaizoku no Agito ||
- Items: Kawa no Boushi, Tent, Ether, 300 gil
- Item (nc): Pendant B (Key)
- Blue: Kyuuketsu (Steel Bat)
- Default (Faris): Dagger, Kawa no Tate, Kawa no Fuku
- PC: Faris Lv3
- - DON'T EVER RUN AWAY FROM BATTLES! The strongest weapon in the game
- loses 1 point of ATP every time you run away.
- - Once you reach the pirate hideout, go examine the wheel of the ship.
- Eventually, you'll have control of the ship, and Faris will join you
- as the fourth and final party member (kind of, not really).
- - Given that you're stuck in inland waters, there's not much you can do
- with the ship. Whatever you do, don't go wandering around the eastern
- areas near the canal. Those Bandersnatches will slaughter you.
- \\\ Tule ||
- Items: Ether, 100 gil, Kawa no Kutsu (trap)
- Items (nc): Tent, Phoenix no O, Potion, 150 gil, Tent, Potion,

- Rod 200 gil Blizzard 150 gil
- Tsue 200 gil Thunder 150 gil
- Cure 180 gil
- Kawa no Fuku 80 gil Libra 80 gil
- Kawa no Boushi 50 gil Poisona 90 gil
- Kawa no Tate 90 gil
- Potion 40 gil
- Tent 250 gil
- - The chest on the second floor of the Beginner's House is a
- monster-in-a-box; you'll have to fight SEPHIROTH for a Kawa no Kutsu.
- - Examine the piano at the pub after getting some "service" from the
- dancers (sit on the chair right next to the stage). If you practice
- with every piano in the world, you'll learn two new skills for one of
- your classes.
- - You don't really need to pick up too much new gear (from the shops,
- that is). One Broad Sword would be enough. You'll find one more in the
- Wind Shrine, and Faris will do fine with her Dagger.
- \\\ Kaze no Shinden ||
- Items: Tent, Kawa no Boushi, Broad Sword, Tsue
- Items (nc): 5× Potions
- Blue: Goblin Punch (Black Goblin), Aero (Mold Wind)
- Special: Class Unlock 1 (Knight, Monk, Thief, Shiromadoushi, Kuromadoushi,
- Aomadoushi)
- Boss: Wing Raptor
- - DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM BATTLES!
- [Boss]
- - 250 HP
- - Bosses in FFV don't give you any Experience or Gil, by the way (with
- a few slight exceptions).
- - Breath Wing deals proportional damage (25% mHP) (one of the three
- 'quarter specials').
- - After the event in the crystal room, you'll have access to the first
- 6 classes: Knight, Monk, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage and Blue Mage.
- - You can use the teleporter in the crystal room to get outside, but,
- if you walk, you can pick up Aero and Goblin Punch on your way (you
- can get Goblin Punch from the regular Goblins as well). Keep in mind,
- the message that tells you that you learned a new skill won't be displayed
- until the end of the battle, and the skill won't show up on your list
- until after the battle. Also, keep in mind that Blue Magic spells are
- shared, so you don't have to learn them individually for each character
- (unlike in other installments).
- - Get Blue Mage to Lv2 so you'll get the Learning Auto-Ability (allowing
- you to pick up enemy skills without having Blue Mages), and White Mage
- to Lv1 so you can cast healing spells without actually having a White
- Mage. Keep leveling up the White Mage as you gain new useful spells (each
- line represents one level). Getting the Blue Mage to Lv3 gives you the
- Blue Magic Command Ability. Try to get that too at some point.
- - The Suppin automatically inherits the innate Auto-Abilities once the
- character masters a specific class. Of course, seeing as most battles
- give you only 1 AP early in the game, you won't have many mastered classes
- by the end of World 1, and there's no need. Either way, the Suppin becomes
- the best physical class once you've mastered the Monk, Ninja and Karyuudo.
- I'd consider these your highest priority.
- - The Knight's Ryoutemochi (Lv3) allows you to double your ATPm, but it's
- of no use to Monks, Ninjas, or Karyuudos, as it only works with swords and
- axes.
- - Do *not* try to use the Thief's Lv2 Command Ability, Tonzura (Flee)!
- Item (nc): Unga no Kagi (Key, Temp) \\\ Tule Mura ||
- - Go see the guy in the north-most building to get the key to the canal.
- Items (nc): 8× Potions \\\ Kaizoku no Agito ||
- - You can get 8 Potions from one of the pirates now. And don't forget
- about Kyuuketsu.
- Party: Lv9 \\\ Torna Unga ||
- Boss: Karlabos
- - Make sure you've got everything you need from the previous areas
- before proceeding. It'll be a short while before you can get back.
- [Boss]
- - 650 HP, 5 AP
- \\\ Fune no Hakaba ||
- Items: Flail, Tent, Phoenix no O, Potion, Dokukeshi, Dokukeshi,
- Phoenix no O
- Items (nc): 990 gil, Sekai Chizu (Key)
- Boss: Siren
- - You'll start off at full health, but if you need to, you can rest
- below deck. You can also rest in the area before the Save Point, which
- isn't that far from the boss.
- - In order to reach the chest with the Flail, you'll need to stand
- still on the rock next to your ship for a couple of seconds.
- - Most of the "indoor" areas are part of the same ship, but there's
- another ship you can enter near the end. This is one of the best places
- to gain AP early in the game (3 AP is common).
- [Boss]
- - 900 HP, 5 AP, Bronze Armor / Bronze Shield
- \\\ Carwen no Machi ||

- Item (nc): Mythril Helm
- Theft: Ginbuchi Megane (Bloxx)
- Blue: Flash (Bloxx), Aero (Magisa)
- Boss(es): Magisa (& Forza)
- - DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM BATTLES!
- - The Ginbuchi Megane has the same stats as the Kawa no Kutsu but also
- grants immunity to Kurayami (Blind / Darkness).
- - Unfortunately, the Bloxx don't have enough MP to cast Flash, so the
- only way to learn it here is to use an Ether on one of them. I wouldn't
- recommend that. You can just pick it up later from someone else.
- - Don't step on the plants you see. Otherwise your entire party will
- get poisoned.
- [Boss]
- - 650 HP, 850 HP (Forza), 6 AP, Muchi
- - It's possible to kill Magisa before she calls Forza into the battle.
- You'd still gain 6 AP, so you'd only miss on the Chikara no Kusuri
- that Forza drops (that item doesn't even work, by the way).
- - After the event at the top, you'll be able to fly around using Hiryuu.
- - Fly past the Tycoon meteor to reach Tycoon Castle.
- \\\ Tycoon Jou ||

- Theft: Mythril Sword (Ice Soldier)
- Blue: Kaeru no Uta (Elf Toad)
- - DO NOT LET IPPIKI OOKAMI OUT OF HIS CELL! If you do, he'll proceed to
- liberate the contents of a couple of specific treasure containers around
- the world.
- - STAY AWAY FROM THE BASEMENT! There are a few items there (not listed
- yet), but before you can reach them, you'll get ambushed by Garkimasera,
- who will then proceed to slaughter your entire party. Because of his
- incredibly high Defense and Evade, your characters can only damage him
- with critical hits. RUNNING AWAY IS NOT AN OPTION. You *might* get lucky
- and win, but then you'll just run into him again. Just stay away for now.
- - You can reach the castle's water tower by going through the waterfall
- behind the castle. I suggest you head there to steal a couple of Mythril
- Swords and to learn Kaeru no Uta (a solo action - kill all but one enemy).
- You definitely should *not* try and fight Shiva, though. You'll have to
- come back for her later.
- - After seeing the king, fly northwest to Worus Tower.

- Boss: Galura
- - The tower will become inaccessible after taking down the boss, so try

- - The only Save Point is on the 5th floor, while the boss is on the 10th.
- - Wyverns use Breath Wing when solo.
- [Boss]
- - 1200 HP, 5 AP
- - You're looking at pretty significant damage (~80 pod).
- - Kaeru no Uta works, but he'll quickly turn himself back by casting
- Toad on himself. You'd have to cast it repeatedly with two characters
- to keep him at bay.
- - 5 new classes: Berserker, Mahou Kenshi, Time Wizard, Red Mage and Summoner.
- Lost & Found: Kame no Koura (Grass Tortoise) \\\ Karnak Region ||
- Blue: ???? (Wild Nak)
- - The teleporter inside the Worus Meteor will take you to the Karnak Meteor.
- - The Naks can be found in the forests. For some reason, no title is
- displayed when they use ????. It's got a more powerful sound than their
- normal attack, although it'll probably do only 0 pod (if they're still
- at full health).
- - The damage you deal with ???? equals the caster's max HP - current HP.
- - Might want to farm some Turtle Shells for Mix spells at some point.
- Drain Kiss (Koura + Otome no Kiss), for example, is quite powerful,
- whereas Koura + Hi-Potion heals 160 MP. You don't get the Alchemist
- until the end of World 1, though.
- - Head to the town of Karnak. Once there, try to buy something from the
- weapon or armor shop, and you'll be taken into custody. You'll then find
- yourself in the castle dungeon.
- \\\ Karnak Jou ||
- - While you're in your cell, just wait for a while until you meet Cid.
- - You'll soon be freed (no trials or dragon tanks involved). You can't
- fully explore the castle yet nor can you get any of the items. After the
- next dungeon, you'll have 10 minutes to escape from the castle while
- grabbing as many items as you can (or care to). Seeing as most of the
- chests are trapped, it won't be that easy.

- destroyed in the process.
- - If you don't mind hiking back, you could take out Shiva pretty easily
- with Fira. Give the basement a shot while you're at it.
- Item: Elf no Manto \\\ Worus Jou ||
- Items (nc): Speed (spell), 1000 gil, 1000 gil
- Blue: Tsuki no Fue (Garkimasera)
- Special: Shiva Summon
- Boss: Shiva (+ 3× Ice Commanders)
- - Right, so, you can find Shiva in the tower behind the castle, and
- Garkimasera is lurking in the basement.
- - You'll have to take out Garki multiple times, so make sure you have
- *plenty* of Phoenix Downs. Use Blue Mages with Kakutou and set them in
- the back row. Use ???? to take out most of his HP, but don't use it if
- you have more than one dead character. He'll counter with Tsuki no Fue,
- which puts your whole party in Berserk. If you can't pull it off, that's
- fine. Just come back later.
- - The Speed spell is kind of worthless, since it has the same affect as
- setting your Battle Speed to 5.
- - The Elf no Manto gives you a 1/3 chance to evade physical attacks.
- This is a separate check from the regular Evade roll.
- [Boss]
- - 1500 HP, W:F, 5 AP
- \\\ Karyokusen ||
- Items: Mythril no Kote, Elixir, Cottage, Elixir, Phoenix no O,

- Theft: Ether (Motor Trap), Hi-Potion (Poltergeist)
- Lost & Found: Honoo no Yumiya (Liquid Flame - Tornado)
- Blue: Flash (Crew Dust), Jibaku (Motor Trap)
- Boss: Liquid Flame
- - If all of your characters are leveling up pretty much at the same
- time, I suggest you fight a bunch of battles with one of them dead.
- This will help you with a Blue Magic spell we'll be picking up soon.
- - Crew Dust will start using Flash once it's the only enemy left.
- - Motor Traps will use Jibaku when you hit them with Thunder. It has
- to survive it, though, so use a Blue Mage with Kuromahou Lx but not
- as Lenna. A Black Mage will just kill it.
- - Poltergeists will sometimes confuse you, and Motor Traps can inflict
- Stop.
- - The Touzoku no Kote increases your chances of successfully stealing
- an item. Do *not* miss it. There's a chance this is the only one you'll
- ever get your hands on.
- [Boss]
- - 3000 HP (each), 6 AP + Honoo no Yumiya / Katon no Jutsu / Honoo no Rod
- - The boss can change between three different forms, and the item he
- drops depends on which form he's using when you kill him. I suggest
- you try and get the Honoo no Yumiya by killing him in his tornado form.
- The two alternatives are not very impressive; a Katon no Jutsu from
- the man-like form or a Honoo no Rod from the giant hand. Unfortunately,
- he won't change his form unless you attack him, so there's a fair chance
- you'll kill him in the wrong form. Might take a couple of resets before
- you get lucky. If it seems like too much trouble (you can buy that bow
- later for 2500 gil), just forget it and save your effort for the next
- part, where you'll really need it.
- - The man form counters with Honoo, which deals proportional damage
- (25% mHP).
- - After the battle, I suggest you form a party with 3 characters capable
- of learning Blue Magic. I'd also recommend a Thief with White Magic.

- Boss: Iron Claw
- - You'll start off at a Save Point. Use it immediately.
- - You have 10 minutes to run away to escape from the castle before it
- blows up and takes you with it. Fairly easy to do if you just head
- straight out, but with so many nice items lying around, you shouldn't
- do that. Just keep refining your route and performance until you can
- get all 15 chests and the two new Blue Magic spells within the time
- limit (or at least the chests). There's a little luck involved too,
- but I'm sure you can pull it off.
- - You'll run automatically during this entire event.
- - Unlike most other trapped chests in the game, these ones do *not*
- have fixed enemies.
- - If you're going for all the items, learning Aera shouldn't be too
- hard, so don't waste an entire minute in a single Gigas encounter. You
- can easily pick it up in the next dungeon, so it's not really a big
- deal if you miss it. Steal some Elixirs while you're at it.
- - No need to try and score a Daichi no Koromo. You've already got
- enough stuff to do here. And the Mage Masher isn't really worth using
- because of the constant muting.
- - You'll encounter the boss at the castle gate. Switch your Thief to
- something that can learn Blue Magic before you trigger the battle.
- [Boss]
- - The battle starts off with you fighting the usual group of 3 Karnaks
- and a Gunsou. Once you take out the doggies, the Gunsou will transform
- into the Iron Claw.
- - Iron Claw doesn't have that much HP (900), so only attack him a couple
- of times, then start waiting for Death Claw (single digit HP + Mahi, 66%
- hit rate). It's not *that* big of a deal if you miss it (you can easily
- learn it in W2). There are a couple of W1 bosses that are vulnerable to it,
- but I'm sure you can beat them even without it. Either way, you probably
- won't be using it too much.
- - You'll obtain 3 new classes: Majuutsukai (Trainer), Fuusuishi (Feng
- Shui Master / Geomancer), and Ninja.
- - I switch to Ninjas here, whether I have the Monk mastered or not.
- - Do *not* try to use the Ninja's Lv1 Command Ability, Kemuridama! It's
- the same as the Thief's Tonzura, which makes you flee from battle.
- - The Main Gauche gives you a 1/4 evade chance, separate from regular
- Evade, just like the Elf no Manto. Equipping both, indeed, gives you both.
- Blue: Missile (Motor Trap - Control) \\\ Karyokusen ||
- - Once you have the Majuutsukai's Lv2 Command Ability, Ayatsuru (60 AP

- - If you're at or very near Level 20 (or any other level divisible by

- Otherwise, you could try and pick up some Javelins first.
- Blue: Yuugou (Mythril Dragon - Control) \\\ Karnak Region ||

- - Yuugou heals the target while sacrificing the user.
- Theft: Javelin (Sand Bear) \\\ Ryuusa no Sabaku ||
- - The Javelin is the strongest weapon you can find for a while (55 ATP).
- You could do some serious damage with a pair of those. Of course, that
- requires a Suppin with a mastered Ninja... But still, you should get a
- few of those. It's a rare steal, so you'll want to use a group of four
- Thieves (or just use the Steal CA if you've hit Thief Lv4) and increase
- the battle speed. The Sand Bear hits pretty hard, so turn it into a frog

- - I strongly recommend you learn Lv5 Death at this point. You need to
- take effect from the spell in order to learn it, so level up until at
- least one but no more than three of your characters are at a level
- divisible by 5 (such as 20). If all your characters have very similar Exp
- values, you'll want to kill one of them for a while to create a small gap.
- - Once you're prepared, head for the library's rooftop, where you can
- trigger a fixed encounter with one of those demonic books. Take out
- Page 32, and Page 64 will pop up. Shouldn't take long before he uses
- Lv5 Death.
- - Once you've learned it, go level up for a while, so you don't have
- to worry about getting hit with it again while you're actually going
- through the dungeon.
- - Defeating a Page with a counter prevents it from switching, which will
- end the battle right then while still giving the same unimpressive amount
- of points (the ones that switch out aren't considered to have been killed).
- (This was changed in the 2023 version.)
- - You can find Ifrit pretty early in the dungeon in a little room with
- a book. The bookshelf with the attitude in the previous area won't let
- you pass until you beat Ifrit.

- - If you'd rather refrain from using instant ownage stuff, Fira and Ifrit

- below 800 HP, so regular attacks won't work very well at that point, not
- without crits. You could also finish him off with Nageru/Throw.
- - Use Guard Off (halves DFP and MDF) to soften him up.

- - You will now encounter battles while traveling on water. Of particular

- - You will no longer have access to this dungeon once you complete the
- events here.
- - You can rest at the sub, and if you examine the wheel, Zeza will take
- you back.
- - Using metallic equipment seems to result in an accuracy penalty here.
- - You'll immediately find the first Save Point on the 2nd floor.
- - There are two trapped chests here; one on the 3rd floor and one on
- 9F. The enemy you'll fight is either a Red Dragon (7500) or two Yellow
- Dragons (8500 HP)(I'll count them as bosses).
- × The Blood Sword is powerful but inaccurate.
- × The Kin no Kamikazari doesn't have much defense but halves the MP
- consumption of spells (only during battles, however).
- - To learn Lv3 Flare from a Red Dragon, you have to Reflect them, as you
- can't target your party with it when controlling them. You can Reflect
- them by capturing and releasing a Neon or by mixing a Ryuu no Kiba with
- a Phoenix Down.
- - Likewise, you have to use Reflect to learn Lv5 Death or Lv2 Old from
- the Level Trickers.
- - Stealing Partisans isn't really necessary unless you see yourself
- using the Dragoon in the near future. Either way, you can find Ziggurat
- Gigases on the top floors.
- - The second Save Point is on the 10th floor.
- [Boss]
- - Lv41, 19 997 HP, 12 AP
- - Atomos will spam you with Comet until at least one of your characters
- is dead. He will then start pulling the bodies slowly towards him. Any
- bodies that are pulled too close will be removed from battle. Obviously,
- you shouldn't let that happen, but having a dead character is the only
- way to avoid being barraged by Comet, which he will otherwise frequently
- cast two or three times in a row, and a single one can hit as high as
- 1000 pod. Shell would reduce the damage quite a bit, but even then it
- might be hard to keep up.
- - If you go in with two Twin Lancers on each character, he should go down
- quickly.
- - A swift and filthy method would involve casting Kuro no Shougeki and
- Lv5 Death.
- - After the events, you will obtain the submarine. Return to the sunken
- island.

- into three specific enemies in a given encounter. His current HP will
- transfer between forms, but the transformations are indeed considered
- different enemies.
- × You'll have the easiest time learning Aeroga in the area with the 5
- chests.
- × If you want a Hikari no Tsue, get it on B4. Use Kakutou and you should

- really necessary, but it helps.
- [Boss]
- - Lv57, 32 768 HP, W:I, Undead
- - His physical attacks (normal and Kame no Koura) deal ab. 1300 pod. Kame
- no Koura can also inflict a number of status ailments. He'll counter every
- attack with 2 Kame no Kouras (4 when using two weapons or Midareuchi).
- - Have a Knight using Mamori while the other 3 characters are low on HP.
- - He'll use Jishin as a final attack (~4000 pod to all). If you hit him
- with Kuro no Shougeki and Lv2 Old, it'll only do about 600 (2000 with
- just Kuro no Shougeki). Kuro no Shougeki only has a low chance of hitting,
- so it's just easier to go with Levitate.
- - Dual-wield Mahouken Blizzaga Midareuchi will do 12k of damage. If you
- don't have Midareuchi yet, use Requiem (3000+).

- to trigger a scene.
- - After triggering the scene, you can encounter Ankokumadoushis on the
- the basement floors. Stealing a couple of Sabaki no Tsues would be
- recommended, as it's the strongest staff in the game. You can find
- them on higher levels as well, but it's probably better to do it as
- close to a save point as possible. These guys can be fairly unpleasant
- to hang out with, as they spam you with nice little spells like Death,
- Stop, Confuse and Break. To top it off, they're immune to Iainuki.
- - You can find Motor Drives in the room where the recovery spring used
- to be on 1F. The Beast Killer does double damage to many enemies.
- - For some reason, hitting Blue Dragons with Lv2 Old increases their
- stats as opposed to lowering them. If you want to try it, make sure you
- save the game first. Their specials will deal four times as much damage
- as normal (the effect seems temporary). You can find them in the room
- where the recovery point used to be and on 7F.

- game, but the low overall encounter rate on water makes it quite a pain
- to farm. You can manage without it.
- \\\ Ocean ||
- Theft: Hi-Potion / Defender (Sea Devil), Hi-Potion / Murasame (Kyodai Chou)
- - These are both good weapons, so get at least a few of them.
- Lost & Found: Tenshi no Yubiwa (Silvune) \\\ Ocean ||
- Blue: ???? (Gel Fish - Control)
- - You'll find these in the southwest corner of the map.
- \\\ Kotou no Shinden ||
- Items: 12 000 gil, Elixir, 9000 gil, Rising Sun (trap),
- Mamori no Yubiwa (trap), Crystal Helm, Ether, Beast Killer, Ether,
- Ryuu no Kiba, Dark Matter, Circlet
- Items (nc): Hi-Potion, Protect Drink, Sekiban 2 (Key, Temp)
- Theft: Hi-Potion / Mirage Vest (Owazoral), Avis Killer / Ether (Tote Avis),
- Power Wrist / Dancing Dagger (Shadow Dancer), Ashura / Ice Shield (Srounin)
- Lost & Found: Kotetsu (Srounin)
- Blue: Lv2 Old, Lv3 Flare, Lv4 Graviga, Lv5 Death (Ixecrator),
- Shi no Senkoku (Norowareshimono - Control), Mind Blast (Stalker)
- Bosses: 2× Gargoyles, Invisible, Stalker
- - Found in the middle of the Big Bridge.
- - First off, make sure your levels aren't divisible by 4 or 5, at *least* 5.
- - Gargoyles: 5000 HP, 10 AP
- - Check the walls in the room with the two switches to find a Hi-Potion
- and a Protect Drink (ugh...).
- - Activating the switches allows you to reach different places through
- the air duct.
- × Right switch: Elixir
- × Both switches: 9000 gil
- × Left switch: Rising Sun + proceed
- - The chest with the Rising Sun is protected by the Invisible (7000 HP).
- - The first Save Point is in the next area (just before reaching 2F).
- - The second Save Point is on 6F right before the main boss.
- [Boss]
- - 20 000 HP, 20 AP
- - The Stalker has three illusory copies of himself, meaning only one of
- the four targets will actually take damage.
- - You now have access to the Fork Tower.
- \\\ Fork Tower ||
- Items: Ether, Wonder Wand (Unique), Hi-Potion, Defender
- Theft: Elixir / Dengeki Muchi (Flayer),
- Chikara no Kusuri / Flame Shield (Duel Knight),
- Potion / Cornago no Tsubo (Artifact) (Subete o Shirumono)
- Special: Holy, Flare
- Bosses: Minotauros, Subete o Shirumono
- - You will no longer have access to this dungeon once you complete the
- events here.
- - This place has two towers, and you'll split into two groups, so you
- can complete them at the same time (kind of).
- - WARNING! Do *not* use physical attacks in the left tower. This will
- prompt the enemy to counter with a nasty attack of some kind (unless
- your attack kills them). In the right tower, the Duel Knight will counter
- magic, but that's it.
- - Iainuki can be used in either one. Only one of the enemies is immune.
- - You'll start with the left tower. Once you reach the 8th floor, you'll
- switch to the other team (if you want the other Cornago no Tsubo, set
- Steal and equip Touzoku no Kotes before you approach the door).
- - The only way to get more Dengeki Muchis is to try and steal them from
- Flayers. The weapon has no use at this point in the game, and the Flayers
- counter by attacking twice for max damage, so this is certainly not worth
- your time and effort.
- - When you attack with the Wonder Wand, you'll be prompted to cast white
- magic or black magic instead.
- [Boss: Minotauros]
- - 19 850 HP, A:H
- - Magic is sealed in this battle.
- - You'll then switch back to the other team. DO NOT WANDER OFF!
- [Boss: Subete o Shirumono]
- - 16 999 HP, W:N, 20 AP
- - When trying to get the second Cornago no Tsubo, you don't have to cast
- Return yourself, as the boss uses it as a counter to physical attacks.
- He won't counter Steal, though, unlike the normal enemies.
- - Use Dispel to get rid of his Shell (and Reflect and Haste if he uses
- those). You can also use it to get rid of Slow.
- - Once close to death, he'll start using -ga-level spells (~1400 pod).
- - Mahouken Flare increases ATP by 100.
- - Afterwards, the dungeon will disappear, and in its place you'll find
- the hangar. Drop in, and Cid will modify your airship, so it can turn
- into a sub. This allows you to access the sunken Worus Tower, Istory no
- Taki, Daikaikou and Monoshiri-jiisan's. The last one isn't visible on
- the map (it's south of Karnak). (For some reason, the map still shows
- a marker near Mua.)
- × Monoshiri-jiisan can show you the following stats:
- × Battles fought
- × Enemies killed
- × Average total Exp
- × Treasure found
- × Number of saves
- × There's no reward for getting 100% treasure found (other than a
- sense of accomplishment and bragging rights). Not everything counts
- towards it (such as the money in the Bal Cave or the sealed weapons).
- \\\ Sunken Worus Tower ||
- Theft: Kawa no Fuku / Kin no Kamikazari (Gogo)
- Special: Final Class (Monomaneshi)
- Boss: Monomaneshi Gogo
- - You have 7 minutes to retrieve the last crystal shard from the bottom
- of the tower before you run out of oxygen. Not that easy, as the boss
- takes 2 minutes to "kill," and some of the enemies (such as Garkimaseras
- and Protoypes) can really slow you down.
- - The chest you see on 5F will refill your oxygen supply. Better save
- it for when you're coming back up.
- [Boss]
- - 50 AP. You're not supposed to do anything here. Just stand still for
- a couple of minutes. Forget about the Kin no Kamikazari.
- \\\ Daikaikou ||
- Items: Suiton no Jutsu, Honoo no Yubiwa, Ryuu no Kiba, Ether,
- Phoenix no O, Kaiser Knuckle
- Item (nc): Sekiban 3 (Key, Temp)
- Theft: Beast Killer (Shoutaifumei)
- Blue: Shi no Senkoku (Shoutaifumei)
- Special: Meteo
- Bosses: 2× Gargoyles, Fugly Trio (Triton, Neregade & Phobos)
- - In case you missed the world map, the Daikaikou is found NNE of Crescent.
- - All the enemies here are called Shoutaifumei (Unknown). There are five
- different kinds of these. The one with the Beast Killer looks exactly
- like another one of them (a blob), but if you fail to steal, then you've
- probably got the right one. You can easily find them on B4.
- - You'll quickly find a Save Point on B3.
- - B6 is probably the best place to level up in the game. The two most
- common battles give you 1500 and 1070 xp. You can get 100k xp in about
- 25 minutes (with Dash) and 100 AP in about 7 minutes (without Dash).
- Give 2 characters Damage Yuka and Keikai. If you master your remaining
- classes here, you'll hit Lv70.
- - On B7, you'll find the second Save Point and a small dwarf settlement.
- There's also a shop, but it's the same stuff they had in Shinkirou.
- - As always, the boss awaits you in the Sekiban room.
- [Boss] FITWNEPH
- - 13 333 HP each | Green: RR WA
- - Undead | Red: AW
- - 20 AP | Purple: WA
- - Just like the Gargoyles, you'll have to take these guys out at the
- same time or in quick succession.

- Special: Bahamut Summon \\\ Kita no Yama ||
- Boss: Bahamut
- [Boss]
- - 40 000 HP, 25 AP
- - Bahamut is certainly not interested in small pots, seeing as most of
- his attacks deal 600 - 800 pod to everyone at the table. You're gonna

- Mega Flare on the river (2500 pod to all).

- Special: Phoenix Summon
- - There are no bosses here, but you do have the chance to fight a Magic
- Pot every 5 floors (look like regular pots). The only way to 'beat' these
- guys is to give them an Elixir. This only has a chance of making them run
- away, so it could take a few. Either way, once they do, you'll gain 100 AP.
- This is a *terrible* waste of Elixirs, but it's the only way to reach 100%
- treasure found. If you don't care about it, don't bother with them. Below
- you can see which pots are *not* Magic Pots.
- 5F: Left 10F: Left 15F: Right 20F: Left 25F: Right
- - Throughout the tower, there are 18 floors where the staircases to the
- next floor are hidden. There are two of these, and all you need to do to

- However, one of these will trigger an encounter with a special enemy. If
- you wish to avoid these battles, you can see which staircases to use below.

- Blue: Death Claw (Death Claw), Magic Hammer (Death Claw - Control)
- Bosses: Apanda, Apocalypse, Catastrophe, Halicarnassus, Twin Tania
- - Examine the book on the table to fight Apanda.
- [Boss: Apanda]
- - Lv59, 22 200 HP, W:F, 16 AP, Susu (100%)
- - You'll find the next boss in the dungeon of the castle (the cell on
- the left; ignore the other ones for now).
- [Boss: Apocalypse]
- - Lv57, 27 900 HP, W:P, 22 AP
- - Apocalypse knows almost every enemy skill in the book. This includes
- Lv5 Death, so you probably shouldn't fight him when your level is
- divisible by 5.
- - Don't miss the Kyojin no Kote.
- - When he dies, he leaves behind the 2nd Save Point.
- - Approaching the guys in the other cells will trigger encounters with
- Alte Roite (6000 HP) / Jura Avis (15 000 HP). Roite likes to cast Circle,
- so don't go easy on them. Iainuki, Death Claw and Missile work on Jura Avis.
- [Boss: Catastrophe]
- - Lv71, 19 997 HP, 21 AP
- - In the throne room, you'll fight Halicarnassus.
- [Boss: Halicarnassus]
- - Lv97, 33 333 HP, 20 AP
- - Return to save before proceeding to the rooftop of the main tower.
- Unfortunately, the short cut only works one way.
- [Boss: Twin Tania]
- - 50 000 HP, W:H, 24 AP
- - Tania is fairly consistent in countering physical attacks with Tidal
- Wave (possibly two of them when using Midareuchi) and magical attacks
- with Mega Flare (both 1000 pod to all). The other attacks are not as
- powerful.
- - Tania will regularly switch to Hyper Mode (no visible change) to
- unleash Giga Flare, which deals a fairly substantial amount of damage
- (3100 to all, ignores MDF). This is when you can steal the Kyojin no
- Ono, the only other one in the game. However, if you want the Tinker
- Bell as well, you'll have to kill it in its normal form. It'll switch
- forms after the two Kamaitachis. Look at your HP figures to tell exactly
- when this happens (Mind Blast's bleeding effect will pause for a moment).
- It'll switch back to form A soon after Giga Flare. Wait 2 seconds after
- the damage figures disappear, then finish it off.
- - You can find Youjinbous fairly easily on top of the main tower.
- \\\ Crystal Plane ||
- Items: Fuuma Shuriken, Fuuma Shuriken, Elixir, Fuuma Shuriken,
- (Ragnarök) (Unique) (trap)
- Theft:
- Gilgamesh 6 | Genji no Tate (Unique)
- King Behemoth | Phoenix no O / Blood Sword
- Suishouryuu | Elixir / Hiryuu no Yari
- Gorchimera | Hi-Potion / Aegis no Tate
- Necromancer | Seisui / Bone Armor
- Belfegor | Engetsurin / Rising Sun
- Mindflayer | Green Beret / Main Gauche
- Gilgamesh 7 | Genji no Yoroi (Unique)
- Bosses: Gilgamesh 6, Necrophobia & 4× Barriers + Gilgamesh 7, (Shinryuu),
- Exdeath 2, Neo Exdeath
- - Telepo will not work here.
- - You don't gain any Experience from the enemies here.
- - You can take out King Behemoths easily with Break Blade.
- - You can encounter Suishouryuus in the first and third areas.
- - You'll immediately run into an old friend.
- [Boss: Gilgamesh 6]
- - Nothing really happens here. Just steal the Genji no Tate.
- - As soon as you reach the third area, you'll see a lone chest at the
- end of a flight of stairs. DO NOT OPEN THIS CHEST!
- × In order to take out Shinryuu (55 500 HP), you'll want at least two
- characters with two Hiryuu no Yaris. This will allow you to take him
- out in a single round. You'll need to equip Sango no Yubiwas to survive
- the Tidal Wave he always starts off with (a modest ~8000 pod to all).
- The item he drops (Ryuu no Monshou) has no use.
- - The fourth area is the last one. In order to access the final Save
- Point, you'll have to take care of Necrophobia.
- [Boss: Necrophobia & Gilgamesh 7]
- - 44 044 HP
- - Take out the four Barriers (8800 HP), then start bringing down
- Necrophobia's HP, but do *not* kill him. You'll have to get his HP
- below 10 000 in order to make Gilgamesh appear. Before that happens,
- you'll have to put up with some fairly powerful attacks (Shinkuuha,
- Hurricane, Death).
- - Once Gil drops in, steal the Genji no Yoroi, then just wait.
- - You could steal a third Touzoku no Kote from Necrophobia but only
- after taking down the Barriers. Just let it go.
- - You can only find Movers in the fourth area. They're worth quite a
- bit of gil and AP.
- [Boss: Exdeath]
- - Nothing special in the first battle (49 001 HP).
- - The second form has four targets as well as two dummy targets that
- you have a solid chance of hitting instead of any proper target.
- - Expect heavy damage from all attacks (Almagest: 1600 pod to all).
- Don't look at Grand Cross.
- End of file.
