- breeding stables!!!!!!! shinji and shirou are part of the same group of new breeding omegas. there is a declining population in their country, so breeding stables are implemented to help increase the population. omegas are considered second class citizens, so they can be sold or seized and brought onto the farms. from there, omegas are given a daily dosage of fertility drugs and fed often to make their bodies ideal for breeding litters consistently. while they are being forced into it, they aren’t necessarily treated badly and it is actually a better environment for them than if they were on the streets unbonded. often, unbonded omega that venture into public are harassed, assaulted or worse. the breeding stables, though not ideal, are a safer option for omegas that have nowhere else to go.
- shinji was sold to the stables by his family to settle financial debts. they had always been disappointed that he had been born omega, so this development is not a surprise to him. he grew up mostly hidden away from public exposure and was very regularly told he brought shame to the family name. shirou had been involved in an accident where the town he lived in suffered a massive fire. his house was destroyed and his parents were killed by smoke inhalation. shirou was rescued by the fire crew with severely burned hands from trying to open their bedroom door and save them. he was later adopted by the firefighter who rescued him, but when he passed away from a sudden terminal illness, shirou was left alone. omega can’t own or rent property, so he was left homeless. local authorities were alerted and he was picked up and brought to the stables.
- he notices shinji right away, sullen and angry looking. shirou doesn’t know it, but they share the same spark of stubbornness not common in a typical omega temperament. shirou shyly and quietly approaches him and sits beside him and shinji is immediately drawn in by shirou’s attempt to offer him a calming atmosphere. looking a little embarrassed, shinji scoots closer to him and leans his head against his shoulder. omegas crave contact and closeness, so shirou’s offer was very obviously an invitation to seek comfort in him. since losing his parents and guardian to circumstances he couldn’t control, he’s resolved to do his best to take care of others. shinji, who has never known affection and craves it desperately, is more than eager to accept. while they don’t know it yet, they’ll be inseparable from here on.
- the stable staff notices right away that shirou and shinji are in the process of bonding, so they’re allowed to stay together. it’s a priority to make sure that the breeding omegas are as comfortable as possible, as it will make it easier on them physically to endure having multiple litters. at first, the fertility drugs make them sick, so they seek comfort in one another, gently grooming and kissing each other’s faces as a gentle distraction. they huddle together constantly, addicted to the scent and affection they’re eager to give one another. they sleep tangled together, purring and nuzzling. while their displeasure and anxiety of being inducted into the farm is mutual, they’re glad to have met each other. both of them are extremely wary of the staff and try to protect one another, stubbornly glaring and nipping when touched. the staff rarely retaliate aside from grabbing them by the scruff of their necks to allow them to perform whatever check-ups they need. testy attitudes are common at first, so it’s something they’re trained for. seeing the other apprehended and instantly made docile hurts, and they whine in empathetic pain. the staff offers them pets on the head in an attempt to calm them, but it only helps a little. the only comfort they want to seek out is in each other. they’re watched closely and their bond is assessed, and despite their outbursts, it’s predicted that they’ll both do very well.
