Two hardened criminals get into trouble with the US border patrol after meeting with a Mexican drug lord, and then revelations start to unfold.
Robert Trench, an undercover DEA agent, takes advantage of gunman Michael Stigman&#39;s idea to rob a bank to bust him and a mob boss. However, it proves too successful with much more money seized than anticipated with Trench&#39;s forces not stopping the getaway. Complicating things still more, Stigman turns out to be a Naval Intelligence agent who shoots Trench and takes the money. The interservice debacle suddenly finds Trench and Stigman in a bloody web of corrupt clandestine rivalries as they are hunted, blackmailed and isolated for the money on both sides of the law. Now, the fugitives must work together to find a way out of this situation with no one to turn to but themselves.
the whole movie is just like a big joke to test the viewers&#39; i.q., a very stupid screenplay, storyline, scenario, plot and especially, the dialog. from the very beginning to the end, not any possibility or probability whatsoever existed, simply absurd to the extreme. both guys were undercovers, but never explained how these two guys became partners-in-crime. both guys just acted like jerks and kept wise-cracking, yammering, blah, blah, blah to each other or to the others. the scene at the diner, the scene robbing the bank, were just like two guys while doing the robbery still couldn&#39;t control their mouths, kept joking to each other. the dialog was just so annoying and so unrealistic. a secret military group assigned a guy to be undercover to rob the Mexican drug cartel&#39;s money at the bank? sir this and sir that? then the most ridiculous scenario was the leader of the fbi guy who acted like a psycho tortured everyone involved in the robbery case. he was even worse, more vicious and cruel than any criminal you could imagine. there were so many ridiculous but at same time very conveniently handy twists in this stupid film that i just don&#39;t want to point out one by one. better be a little bit serious when making a movie, especially a thriller, just don&#39;t mix and mess up the genre, don&#39;t put jerks in a thriller, don&#39;t wise-cracking. there&#39;s no such genre as comedy thriller, okay?
As nearly as I can make out the plot, it goes like this. Denzel Washington in a DEA agent secretly assigned to infiltrate a drug gang as the Texas border. Wahlberg is a Navy petty officer in Naval Intelligence assigned the task of robbing a bank of the drug gang&#39;s three million dollars, so the Navy can use it in fighting the cartels. At first, neither knows the other is working undercover. Something like that.<br/><br/>In the event, the head of the drug gang, Edward James Olmos -- looking old and great -- is in league with the local sheriff, Bill Paxton in his best-ever performance as the smiler with a knife. Moreover, Wahlberg&#39;s boss, a Lieutenant Commander, has no intention of handing the money over to anyone except the military crooks who are his aides. Even MOREover, when the sheriff shoots Washington&#39;s chief while in pursuit of the goods, Washington, like Wahlberg, is out there all alone in the blue, riding along on a shoeshine and a smile.<br/><br/>Paula Patton is in it too, as Washington&#39;s treacherous lover. She&#39;s a bit zoftig for me and her voice sounds like egg shells being cracked but her extraordinary features are an artist&#39;s dream.<br/><br/>The story revolves around the logistics of &quot;three point one two five&quot; million dollars that Washington and Wahlberg steal from the Texas bank, thinking that they are working for the good guys. Everyone is either looking for it or forcing someone else to look for it.<br/><br/>Their characters don&#39;t change, even when they twig to the fact that everybody around them, above them, and below them, is corrupt. They still carry on with the same cheerful banter. As they are waiting to be strung up by their feet and gored to death by an angry bull with cojones &quot;the size of coconuts&quot;, they argue over the pronunciation of the word &quot;misanthrope.&quot; <br/><br/>The film evokes memories of all the mismatched cop movies you&#39;ve ever seen, with a Tarantinoesque touch, including a Mexican standoff borrowed from &quot;Reservoir Dogs.&quot; You may never have seen quite so many guns in one movie but I&#39;m sure you&#39;ve seen two men run away in slow motion from an exploding fireball before throwing themselves to the floor in front of the camera lens. There is a horde of other rechauffe stuff in there. <br/><br/>We need not go on.
Pure charisma is sometimes the best special effect. That’s what Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg bring to 2 Guns, and after a season full of superhero duds, they deliver a crucial dose of cool.
