- 2A. The unsophisticated subjects objection to internalism has subjects in mind such as higher animals, children, and unsophisticated adults. These subjects are not thought of to be engaging in reasoning or forming arguments. From an internalist view, these subjects have little or no knowledge. Intuitively however, they are capable of knowing things, such as where objects are, who their owner is, etc, and could even be justified in its beliefs. The two objections are similar in that if internalism is accepted, then only epistemologists and students of the subject would be able to hold beliefs that common sense regards as justified and knowledge.
- 2B.Bonjour's interpretation is that the content of the intuitions comes from true beliefs which they have good reasons to be thinking it is true. In this case, Bonjour is saying that the intuitions content that motivates the objections comes from an internalist view of intuition.
- 3. Suppose Jon is trying to identify a fairly large object in the distance. He is wearing glasses that allow him to see that the object is a tree. Suppose in another world, Jon is a brain in a vat being given the sensation of identifying the object. In this case Jon is weakly justified in his belief that the tree is there because he is epistemically blameless because he is being deceived with no way of knowing. In the original case, Jon is strongly justified for believing the tree to be there. Bonjour thinks the distinction is irrelevant since our intuition tells us that a person in the real world and the demon world would be equally justified in believing the same proposition.
