Example script - Evan

The Situation:
This is a draft of the opener script for the game. Evan, enthusiastically reflecting on his expectations for his senior year, gets off the bus on the first day of school. He is greeted by Hugo, his childhood friend, as they venture into the auditorium where Johan, the school president, will be speaking.

Notes:
-Most CGs are minor variations of each other (facial expressions and head positions).
-Character name prefixed by an asterisk (*) indicates inner dialogue

Fade to Black

*Evan: …
*Evan: I can’t believe it.
*Evan: Last year of high school.
*Evan: …
*Evan: It's supposed to be the most exciting year… where I have the most exciting memories to look back on.
*Evan: Homecoming football games, clubs, spirit weeks, prom, and finally, graduation... That's what senior year is about, right?
*Evan: …
*Evan: But…
*Evan: I haven't been in any groups or clubs, nor am I a social butterfly.
*Evan: My high school career has been pretty uneventful so far.
*Evan: I haven't done anything in high school. What makes me think I'll have anything to cherish?
*Evan: …
*Evan: I wonder…is it too late to meet new people and try new things?

SFX: Air brake

*Evan: …
*Evan: Oh, that's my stop.
*Evan: First day of senior year… here we go.

Evan: Oh--Hugo!
Hugo: Wait, did you just get off that bus?
Evan: Um… I think so?
Hugo: Dude, we were just on the same bus!
Hugo: You've known me since Kindergarten! How could you miss the face you've grown up with for 13 years?

*Evan: This is Hugo. Clever, crafty, always up to something.
*Evan: And I've always wondered where he gets all this energy from.
*Evan: We've been best friends since kindergarten, mainly because our mothers were best friends as well.
*Evan: Over the years, we've supported each other through thick and thin up 'till this day.
*Evan: He's a down-to-earth friend, and I wouldn't trade our friendship for the world.

Hugo: Jeez Evan, maybe get the prescription on your glasses checked. Or try eating more carrots.
Evan: Heh sorry, if the bus wasn't so crowded, maybe we would have seen each other.
Hugo: It's fine! You're here now!
Evan: Yep!
Hugo: Man, it really sucks how summer ended in a blink of the eye.
Hugo: I swear, it feels like it was just last week when we were counting down the days until summer vacation… and now, we're seniors.
Hugo: Isn't that what they call old people? Ew.
Hugo: Anyways, are you excited?
Evan: Actually, I was just asking myself that question on the bus. And to be honest, not really.
Evan: I want to be excited-- I really do. But you know I'm not really involved with school besides, you know, schoolwork.
Hugo: Yeah, I know what you mean.
Hugo: …
Hugo: If you don't mind me asking, why did you never join any clubs since you started going here?
Evan: I don't know. I guess nothing here really stood out to me or seemed appealing.
Evan: Now I'm here, thinking about how I'm going to tell my future children my 'cherished high school memories' of taking 4 AP classes in a year.
Hugo: Haha, yeah.
Hugo: ...
Hugo: It sounds like you want to be more involved with the school community.
Evan: Yeah… maybe. But which one?
Hugo: I don't know. Keep your eyes peeled, I guess?
Evan: Yeah.
Hugo: Oh shoot, the auditorium is really filling up. Let's find our seats before they get taken!
Evan: Right with you.

Background: Auditorium

Evan: The first-day assembly is so boring. It's the same speech every time.
Hugo: Right?
Evan: I swear, if I didn't hate public speaking, you could put me up there and I could give his speech.
Evan: Watch.
Principal: Hello, Hilltop High School!

<Evan predicts the lines of the principal's speech as he jabs Hugo>

Principal: It is my honor to introduce our school president: Johan Akari!

SFX: Cheering

*Evan: There's Johan, our class president.
*Evan: He's one of the most popular students at this school. I bet there's literally not a single person who has not heard of him.
*Evan: And if they haven't and they're here, now they have.
*Evan: Literally everyone in our class knows him. All the girls want to be with him, and all the guys want to be him.
