- IRC channels migration
- Since its beginning, Mageia.Org project has used several IRC channels as discussion rooms.
- The main advantage of this technology is that anyone can exchange with us without needing to register in advance.
- IRC is a reliable, simple and robust method of communication.
- Mageia's IRC channels were originally hosted on the Freenode network until recently.
- After various recent events, we have lost trust in the Freenode network and have decided to migrate to libera.chat.
- At first, we planned a soft transition together with the Mageia 8 release.
- However, recent technical problems on Freenode have forced us to make the transition to Libera more quickly.
- All our channels on libera.chat are now operational (as of Wednesday 16th June 2021).
- It is no longer possible to connect on #mageia-* channels on Freenode's servers.
- Please see our list of avaiable Mageia channels on libera here: [1].
- Here are some things we also need to do:
- a) Update default server on most of our IRC clients removing references to freenode.
- b) Review Mageia documentation to update any references to Freenode.
- The Mageia teams are continuing to work on this.
- We welcome any feedback or suggestions to improve Mageia and look forward to hearing from you.
