- i heard about this houserule and tbh i like it a bunch. here's my writeup of it in actual english instead of the goblinspeak it was originally coined in:
- ***Campfire Stories!***
- Who doesn't love a good campfire story? You? Fuck off.
- If you're not a stick in the mud, here's how this works:
- During a short or long rest, the DM picks one of the PCs in the party randomly (usually just roll a d4, d6, d10 halved, whatever). Then, the DM asks a question about their character, one that isn't just answered with a simple yes or no: for example, you might ask a paladin character why it is that they chose to join their organization, or swear their specific oath. If they give an answer that's interesting enough, reward them with inspiration! Ideally, you want them to be answering it in-character, and having it so an NPC or other party member asked the question (you could even roll for two PCs, and have the first one be the one asking, rather than the DM picking a question), but you don't need to.
- This allows the PCs to get some cool insight into one of the PCs, and learn something about them that helps make them just seem more interesting, while also giving a nice way to kill some time as the others are restoring their resources after a rest. You usually don't want such a story to stretch on longer than a few minutes, but hey, if you and your group are suddenly enamored by how your fighter murdered twelve dragons to get his helmet, and could listen for hours, then you do you!
