  1. knock knock knock
  2. >"Lisa! PSSSSST! Lisa!"
  3. knock knock knock
  4. >Lola's voice wavered with uncertainty.
  5. >The rain outside, however, seemed to drown the child out entirely.
  6. >Lola hated many things.
  7. >But nohing quite like a thunderstorm.
  8. >It was loud and unpredictable, but that wasn't the scary part.
  9. >No storm wouldn't listen to her, and that scared her most of all.
  10. >Lisa opened the door and began her nightly trek down the hall to Lincoln's room.
  11. >Lola wouldn't be ignored by Lisa, too. Not if she had anything to say about it.
  12. >"Lisa!"
  13. >Lisa was startled awake.
  14. >"Do not bother me after my appointed bedtime, elder sororal unit."
  15. >"Lisa, I need your... hhh... help..."
  16. >Lisa cracked open an astignatism-afflicted eye to look at her sister Lola.
  17. >The rain dwarfed them both, but Lisa was dwarfed by everyone.
  18. >She didn't have many rational fears anymore.
  19. >"You're scared of thunderstorms, sororal unit?"
  20. >"Yes... but I don't have anyone else to go to and I'm really sca-"
  21. >The sudden flash of light and the powerful slam of thunder made Lola jump.
  22. >Before she could even stop herself, Lola felt the clasp of an awkward hug from Lisa.
  23. >Lisa smiled inside.
  24. >Ms. Shrinivas told her that her friendliness had improved a lot lately, but for this?Positively unexpected.
  25. >Lisa didn't actually know what to do next.
  26. >What would Dad do when he walked her places?
  27. >She slowly unhooked herself from Lola, grabbed her hand, and restarted her trip down the hall to Lincoln's room.
  28. >Lola didn't move an inch in that direction.
  29. >Instead, Lola dragged her younger sister down the hall to her room.
  30. >"Sororal unit, please, don't pull my arm so hard."
  31. >That was soon to be the least of her worries.
  32. >No one told Lisa how hard of a hugger Lola was.
  33. >Or how impossible it was to breathe in her comforter.
  34. >Lisa felt the tear-stained cheeks of Lola slow in breathing.
  35. >Somehow, this was helping her to relax.
  36. >The moments wore on, and the pitter-patter of rain led Lola to sleep.
  37. >Lisa didn't realize it at the time, but so had she.
  38. >It was only after the birds began their paeans to the rising sun that Lisa woke.
  39. >Lisa looked over at Lola.
  40. >A smile was imprinted on Lola's sleeping face.
  41. >Lisa couldn't help but smile, too.
