  1. We just started the ride, but it already feels like we’ve been here forever. We’ve just come to Delhi. It’s tempting to just get off my camel and stay here with all the markets and merchants selling their goods. But the experienced traders in my caravan tell me its important to cover as much ground as we possibly can. My name is Aabha Bibhavasu, and I’m from the outskirts of the Indian city Agra. My mother, sister, and grandmother along with others, spend much of their time sewing beautiful rugs and carpets. Every year around twenty five people of my village gather up all the carpets and set off on a journey to China along the silk road. Each year, what we get is always different. Sometimes its silk others gunpowder. But this year, we’re getting paper.
  2. As we were looking through the markets for paper and trying to sell our rugs a few of us were gathering supplies for the rest of the trip. I was nervous I was told that past Deli there was just the city of Gilgit. Out plan was to ride to the city fill up on any supplies that we might need or forgotten and head out. The path to Gilgit was a hard one and i was having a problem with the heat that day. We traveld for one day and part of the morning before we finally saw the great city. We entered the city and went straight to the market we wanted to sell some of the rugs to make the camels lighter so we could travel faster.
  3. We refilled our water and stayed one night in the city, I knew that many were nervous. We were bout to encounter one of the silk roads dangers. If we ever wanted to get to China we would have to cross through the Traklamakan desert.there was no way around it, one of the major intersections was there plus it was the main route to get goods from China to India. The next morning I sat there and thought if this was a good idea. I knew we had to, we got on our camels and rode out of town towards the desert and we were waiting to see what it had in store for us!
  4. I’ve never rode a camel this long, in fact I’ve barley ever ridden a camel at all. But this year, I was chosen to ride with the others to China. I’m both scared and excited, I’ve hardly been anywhere outside my city. I can’t imagine what it will be like to see a place like China. Although I’ve heard about things like the Great Wall of China, its hard to imagine that it’s over 32,000 miles long. I can’t even picture it in my head.

  6. By now we’ve passed through Delhi. Nobody in my caravan speaks much as we leave. As the city fades behind me, the only thing to do is look forward. I don’t know what will happen on the journey, but I know it’ll be a journey I’ll never forget.
