- BEGIN: ------- B -------
- A rough awakening. A rough day, really. I had not slept well in a while and I was beginning to think I'd be able to enjoy my sleep. I was wrong. Even as I fell asleep, back-first into the bed, I could not help but notice how strange it all was. Too soft. The beds in the medical engineering bay were always rough. Harsh.
- I had barely slept at all. I kept waking up from this strange dream.. It was me, in the middle of a large, black space with a faint green tint in the distance. The ground is reflective, and I think its glass for a bit. It is right after that the ground ripples like *water* instead and I recoil in fear. Obviously you'd be afraid of drowning. But there is solid ground underneath my feet. There is no risk of falling in...
- I look at my reflection in the water, and it's...me, but I can tell there is something different. Only after I woke up I realized it was probably me as a human. I don't know why that did not occur to me in the dream... but it has to have been it.
- Perhaps...
- Wait... You... You are there?
- Indeed. And I can gaze upon your dreams too. For one, you made a note of the green tint. That is indeed my presence.
- Your presence? Hmm... Actually I just now remembered...we may have a few things to discuss. Don't get me wrong, I am most grateful for your assistance. I would quite plainly not be alive right now without it. And even if I had survived that first situation, I am sure I'd not be in such a comfortable position.
- It is not so comfortable though, is it? After all you find the bed odd. It is not made to house you... It houses weakness instead.
- Weakness...
- Hmm...? Does something bother you? The Emernian nobles were weak. Stagnating. That is not to say they were undeserving or mercy, but
- they were simply too fragile for the amount of power they held, were they not? That is evident..
- Well... Yes, I agree on all of those points, the thing is...Is that sort of strength really such a lofty ideal that it must always be pursued? One can be a perfectly fine person, while lacking that sort of strength...
- You seem to allude to different forms of strength. Interesting. I do not necessarily disagree, but I find the notion that this
- exact kind of strength is not necessary quite ridiculous. The world is cruel.
- It is cruel... and it should not be. I cannot expect of others what was expected of me. What was expected of me, exceeded all human boundaries. Literally in fact, as I could not continue on that path as a human. I had to become what I am right now.
- I...have a friend. Or had, I suppose. We no longer speak to one another and she lives far away. She was similar to myself: an
- artificially created entity. Made with the technology of the Amonean people. I'll spare you the lengthy history lesson, but...
- Yes, yes, I know. The people who helped elevate Keffar's technology were called Amoneans. They came from the east. Some settled here, in placed like Pipetown or Harvash, and they even built the floating palaces of the Nobles. Others fled to the western half of the continent.
- Where they came to the attention of the people of Dormina. One of Dormina's Lords commissioned the Amoneans to create for her three
- lifeforms. The other two, Ereli and Xoac, live in Dormina. They hold an unique position of power there, together with five others.
- And...the third? Is that you?
- Indeed. I was meant as a replacement. One of these people you see, was fated to die in an unfortunate event. Aura did her best to
- prevent that future from coming to pass, yet she thoroughly failed. This other person died and I was meant to take up his mantle.
- What happened?
- The entity that killed this man took his power. It was something like an authority or a title that you cannot merely replicate. In
- other words...
- You were useless. You were to be...
- Discarded. Yes. Thankfully, while they were preparing to do so, a certain man broke in. It was a dark time of chaos and it was not
- particularly important to guard me. This strange man was... Well...
- Well?
- He was full of hatred. Cruel, without a thought for others and completely consumed by vengeance. He hated with a burning passion. He
- hated everything Dormina stood for, and in that rage, thinking that my survival would strike a terrifying blow against the city he
- went out of his way to save me and set me on my way. I never learned his name. I never learned his fate... But he did save me.
- And here you are... I see... So how come you can communicate with me? How were you 'put' inside my head?
