- Bio: Living in the Peaks of Mercia was a tough job for anyone. It was hard to get a moment of rest, as days were spent fulfilling contracts and nights were spent sleeping with one eye open. Bandit lords were aplenty, and many times, fulfilling a contract meant working under those same bandits. Grant’s birth was a great boon for his parents and a break in the monotony of their lives. No longer bound to simply each other, but to the duty of raising a child, they decided it was time to settle down not as mercenaries, but as caretakers.
- But days were still dark and the bandits become ever more fierce and ruthless. During Grant’s ninth year, he witnessed his village be pillaged and destroyed. It was then that he decided to become a champion of justice. Regardless of Grant’s motivation behind learning combat, his father agreed to teach him combat so that he could better protect himself.
- Grant’s father presented him an axe on his tenth birthday, a weapon that didn’t require much finesse to use and provided the widest margin of safety for the wielder. The thought his father had behind it was that the axe was so large, if Grant started to swing blindly, he would still manage to make a mark on an attacker. But Grant found this weapon appalling. Out on a hunting trip with his parents, his father had helped him corner a family of deer. His father urged him to go and attack, and considering it a step on his road to become a champion of justice, he complied. But he was horrified by the bloody mess the deer had become by the end of it all. Meanwhile, his mother had finished off the rest of the family with what looked like magic.
- Becoming enthralled with the absolute elegance of his mother’s weapon, he threw his axe down and took up fighting with a lance. As the years raged on, Grant had warped into a strange fighter. Applying the fighting tactics his father had taught him to his mother’s weapon of choice, the lance, he created a truly astounding mode of combat.
- Not forgetting the promise he had made to himself in the early years of his life, he gathered his friends and created a legion of fighters hell bent on protecting the ones they loved. Rather than being commissioned by the bandit lords, “Lovell’s Guard”, otherwise known as “The Guard” provided opportunities for people looking for more honest work than raiding villages.
- With the aging of his parents, Grant deemed it unwise to stay in the Peaks any longer. He arranged to move to the Hills, where his parents would be safer from attack and could lead a more peaceful life. It was the least he could do for his parents, who had raised him with such great care in a place of such turmoil.
- His life in the Hills proved to be much more amiable, however word from his friends still at the Peaks reached him. With Grant gone, the chain of command had fallen apart and The Guard was no longer operational. Grant decided it was time to make an honorable man out of himself. He left his parents all the necessary provisions and left Mercia. He now travels in hopes of getting strong enough to one day amass an army large enough to restore order to the lawless land of the Peaks and perhaps the world.
