| background: born to a pair of world-renowned scientists, one of who later went on to become a professor at one of the most prestigious universities in korea, aeju's childhood wasn't the most normal. from the beginning, her parents barely paid any attention to her -- to them, people who only functioned with formulaic trains of thought, emotions weren't factored in, and neither was the fact that she was an actual human, and they instead dealt with raising her as if it was some sort of experiment. it wasn't that they were bad parents or anything, they just didn't understand HOW to take care of her and give her the love she needed, and found it was easier to focus on their works and near-breakthroughs as opposed to actually gifting her with the attention she deserved. because of this, nobody really understood how peculiar of a child aeju was until she reached elementary school. in simple terms, she is what you would call a "people reader" -- just looking at you, she can tell what you are feeling and what you are thinking. a simple glance reveals the most inconspicuous things, through body language and other methods; basically, she's a scientific mind reader. additionally, her brain moves faster and functions, rather than linearly like most people, in a zig zag of lines, which made her more apt for academics than those around her. as she entered society and began interacting with those around her, she noticed that almost all of them were intimidated by her, and she found it was WAY too hard for her to make friends, which caused her to develop an unconscious fear of being smart. she learned early on that it was easier for her to blend in and, essentially, be happier, when she dumbed things down than trying to exceed, which is exactly what she did. throughout her school years, aeju wasn't exactly the type to care about people -- not even her parents. sure she had a few friends, but they were only for appearances purposes, so she didn't seem COMPLETELY antisocial, and she usually ended up spending less time with them than anyone else. the one thing that changed her for the better, even if it was only slightly, was the birth of her sister. its too cliche to say that the younger, pure sibling completely changed aeju's view on life, but it definitely did sway her a lot. from the moment she saw the sparkling eyes of the small baby, she fell in love, and made it her mission to make sure that she could live the best life possible, free of the doubts and worries that marred her life -- her youngest sister became the center of her life.

if you were to ask anyone about their first impressions of aeju, they would all probably unanimously be able to say that she seems pretty harmless. with a plain face, and an aura that practically melds her against the backdrop like a wallflower, it's pretty hard NOT to skip over her when you first survey the room. of course, this is all due to the fact that she doesn't want to stick out and have people notice her. this first impression of her, someone who seems so calm and the type who "goes with the flow" is basically the biggest misinterpretation that could ever happen. in actuality, the word that could most completely encompass who aeju is would probably be bitch (with the occasional addition of "unstable" to the front of the word.) if anyone was to actually get to know her, they would discover how pessimistic and debby downer-ish she is. with how she acts, she practically has bitterness branded across her forehead (courtesy of her oh-so-wonderful parents' treatment of her, and the fantastic way she had been greeted by children in school who had been scared of her from day one.) aeju is bathed completely in perfum de la wit, and has the best comebacks for even the simplest statements -- she has a way of making you feel like an idiot when you haven't even said anything. with how condescending she is, her name might as well be baek sarcasm aeju; even the way she forms her words and vocal inflection are sarcastic, and if you weren't on the receiving end of anything she was saying, it would actually be slightly amusing. they say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and in a way, aeju is able to best exemplify that because everything she says is like a defense mechanism: she says it to make sure that she never gets hurt because, despite what people might think, she's actually very sensitive and even the smallest things affect her deep down. on the other hand, aeju is SO done with literally everything. she enjoys using curse words like they're conjunctions, and often favors either fuck, shit, bitch, or a monster hybrid of the three. she's a skilled professional in the art of having no reaction, and practically nothing surprises or shocks her -- anything you throw her way, she'll throw back at you harder without even looking up from what she was doing. aeju is legit one of THE sassiest people you will ever encounter, and the trait is only magnified by the fact that its only in a subtle way to the point where you don't even know you've been charred so badly to the bone until she's long gone. as if that wasn't enough, she's also what you would consider eccentric; aeju's mind processes things in a way that only .001% of the population can, and she's one of the best when it comes to analyzing people (which is probably why she was assigned as the investigator.) its not a lie that, when she's completely focused, she has a way of becoming slightly harsh and adopting a resting bitch face that kind of makes you want to piss her pants. when it gets down to doing anything, aeju becomes really calm and quiet, becoming even more scary than before, and literally DOES NOT say anything. because of the way her brain functions, shooting synapses on multiple tangents in order to analyze problems as efficiently as possible, she doesn't really know how to deal with emotions, or anything that doesn't have a definite answer. she thinks of this as her biggest flaw, and hates it so much that she ends up acting as if it doesn't exist. this is the major reason why she comes off as such a bitch, because its the only way she knows how to channel her frustration -- and in that sense, she is exceptionally naive.

| how did they join r.o.y.a.l.s: honestly, it happened because of a slip up on her part. aeju had been in her astronomy class one day, and her pen had gone missing. normally, losing a pen wouldn't have been such a big deal for her -- because its just one of the thirty pack, how much fuss could she really cause over it? but this time, it had been her absolute favorite one, blue with a little neko atsume charm at the top. the thought of her pen had been plaguing her for the whole class, and ironically, the girl next to her couldn't stop fidgeting, as if she had taken something that didn't belong to her. the sneaking suspicion dawned on aeju, and it kept bothering her until the class ended, and she confronted the girl. long story short, she MIGHT have gotten a bit too aggressive when demanding for her pen back... and a certain someone might have actually been keeping an eye on aeju since her exceeding academic requirements had been revealed.

| why did they join: at first, she began her membership as a trial run. when she had first been approached with the prospect, she had honestly been completely against it because she was ready to live a simple and content life without any other hindrances. but, when she had been faced with the proposition that they would help ensure that yeonsae lived a comfortable life without any worries no matter what, she decided she might as well try to see what they had offered. she told them she would test out the waters over a course of three months, and then give them her final decision. surprisingly, aeju found herself loving the job, and even becoming attached to the people she worked with, which prompted her to officially join the team.

→ BEG | at first, aeju didn't really like him. he was too hyped up for her taste, and she couldn't help but compare him to puppies (animals that she has a strong aversion to; she's more of a cat person anyways.) she didn't really put much thought his way, and if she were to think about it, she was kind of avoiding him, but overall, her sentiment towards him was indifferent. it took her a while to even notice, actually, that he seemed to trail after her, and after a while, she decided it was pointless to ignore him, and started to develop... some sort of acquaintanceship with him.
→ MID | as they continue to talk more and more, aeju starts to discover that he's actually not as bad as she initially thought. he's very smiley, a semi-pleasant change in her life, and his humor is innocent in the purest sort of way -- something that took a while to get used to, but she now finds sort of endearing. faster than she thought she would, she starts to open up to him, and they become something that can't just be classified as friends; she thinks of him in the way that she thinks of her sister (in a way that she doesn't really sibling-zone him you feel.)
→ END | by now, she's probably shown everything she is to him: flaws, insecurities, and all. its the final test, to see whether or not he's worthy of her affections, and he passes with flying colors. he's basically the only person besides her sister who knows how much she struggles with things because of her parents, and because of how much he accepts her, she's really really really in love with him (and really so far past any point of caring whether or not anyone else knows.)

→ BEG | from the moment he saw her, he was entranced, hooked towards her, and completely and totally intrigued. he wasted basically no time getting near her, and tried his best to try and become friends with her, despite her icy behavior. he wasn't deterred by her blatant ignorance of him, and continued to talk about the most trivial things with her, even when she wouldn't respond and the conversation would fall on deaf ears. but, slowly, he started to wear down her walls (or so he thinks) and they began to work closer and closer towards what he had been hoping for: friendship, or at least, becoming civil with one another.
→ MID | the more they get to know each other, baekhyun finds himself falling into love, or if not, at least VERY deep like. as she becomes more comfortable around him, and relaxes enough to show her true colors, she also lets her small quirks appear, something that he absolutely loves. as any healthy relationship would, they continue to naturally grow closer and closer, and along the way, do some really fucking cute things together.
→ END | he's over the MOON because he can't believe that she trusts him so much? like, she just spilled her biggest secret, something that's shaped her as a person and made her stronger than anyone could imagine, to him of all people?? and she expected him to leave her? hell no, girl, he's gonna be here for a while (you've kind of already cast your spell on him.) he feels so honored that she would tell him all this stuff, and even though nobody thought it was possible, continues on throughout his days even more smiley than before.
