Combining Latin and African rhythms with the light textures of MOR jazz, the project ‘Special EFX’ has emerged as one of the most prominent bands playing in the style of world fusion. Founded in New York in 1982, ‘Special EFX’ was essentially a duo comprised of guitarist Chieli Minucci and Hungarian-born drummer and percussionist George Jinda. Debuting in 1985 with the album ‘Modern Manners’ (‘Modern manners’), they are often invited to the participation of other musicians, among them Dave Grusin, Omar Hakim, and McCoy Tyner, designed to help the state of the modern perception of sound (describing it as a state-of -the-art sound). Long enough to experiment with jazz-pop, the duo significantly changed their sound with released in 1990 album ‘Just Like Magic’ (‘like magic’), finding a more acoustic atmosphere and changing the electronic shock Jinda’s on what he described as “wooden world music “. After the 1995 album ‘Body Language’ (‘Body Language’) Minucci and Jinda disagree, but continue to operate under the name ‘Special EFX’. In early 1997, tragedy struck: Jinda – recently finished album ‘Here to Stay’ (‘Here to stay’) – suffered a severe blow, and then fell into a coma. After several years of illness Jinda died in New York on January 11, 2001
