  1. Shift + S can be used to speed up:
  2.
  3. - Text Boxes
  4. - Truth Bullet Acquiring Animations
  5. - "Challenge Start!" Pop-ups
  6. - Toko's Fantasy Animations
  7. - End of Chapter Animations
  8. - "Break the controller" Options
  9.
  10.
  11.
  12. *** Camera Controls ***
  13.
  14. Holding Shift advances one text box per 0.30s (18f). Holding Shift + S advances one text box per 0.07s (4f).
  15. There are four text boxes at the start, for a total of 0.93s of time save.
  16.
  17.
  18.
  19. *** Tutorials ***
  20.
  21. There are a few tutorials where holding Shift + S is faster than mashing Escape, also making them more consistent and less strenuous.
  22. Here are the tutorials which I've found to be faster (times are approximations):
  23.
  24. Truth Bullet "Move" ------------------ 0.67s
  25. Arcade Machine Pt. 2 ------------------ 0.81s
  26. Skills ------------------ 0.24s
  27. Mono-Mono Machine ------------------ 0.67s
  28. Guiding UFO ------------------ 0.75s
  29. Truth Bullet "Detect" ------------------ 0.13s
  30. Ball Monokuma and Knockback ------------------ 0.35s
  31.
  32. Total ------------------ 3.62s
  33.
  34.
  35.
  36. *** Truth Bullets ***
  37.
  38. When you get certain bullets, the game plays an animation of that bullet being added to your hacking gun. Shift + S considerably speeds up those animations. This is only relevant for bullets that you pick off the ground.
  39.
  40. Move ------------------ 1.62s
  41. Detect ------------------ 1.37s
  42. Link ------------------ 1.49s
  43.
  44. Total ------------------ 4.48s
  45.
  46.
  47.
  48. *** Challenge Start! ***
  49.
  50. You can also speed up the "Challenge Start!" pop-ups by holding Shift + S, saving 1.23s (74f) each time. There are two in Ch.1 (7734 and 2413), one in Ch.2 (Hidden Key), three in Ch.3 (2197, Hidden Kid Arcade and Triple Arcade) and one in Ch.4 (After the Genocide Jack battle), for a grand total of seven "Challenge Start!" pop-ups = 8.63s of time save.
  51.
  52.
  53.
  54. *** Toko's Fantasy ***
  55.
  56. You can also speed up Byakuya's animation at the end of each chapter. Most of it is time-based, so speeding up the animation won't do anything, but some of it can be sped up, saving 0.40s each chapter = 1.60s throughout the run (Ch.5's Byakuya whipping happens after the timer stops).
  57.
  58.
  59.
  60. *** Byakuya Text ***
  61.
  62. After getting imaginarily whipped, Byakuya has a few words to say, which can be promptly sped up with Shift + S. His comments depend on which chapter you're in and what grade you obtained, so there are twenty in total, ranging from one text box to four.
  63. Since the grade you get on each chapter varies from category to category and possibly even from run to run, depending on if you fail certain arcades, it is quite complicated to calculate exactly how much time you save from using Shift + S over Shift.
  64. Using Shift + S on text boxes is 0.23s (14f) faster than just using Shift. If we assume two text boxes per chapter (again, Byakuya's fifth Gachi performance happens after the timer stops), you save 1.87s for using Shift + S.
  65.
  66.
  67.
  68. *** End of Chapter ***
  69.
  70. At the end of each chapter, you'll also see some pop-ups saying "Chapter X: Name of Chapter / END / To be continued...". You can only start mashing Escape after "To be continued..." appears, but you can speed up the previous pop-ups by holding Shift + S, saving a whopping 6.51s each time = 26.04s throughout the run.
  71.
  72.
  73.
  74. *** The Controller ***
  75.
  76. Shift + S also works on the "Break the controller." and "Don't break the controller." options. It depends on how fast you menu, but using Shift + S you can save on average 0.48s per choice = 3.36s on the first seven choices. The eighth and final one, perhaps due to not having to scroll down, saves 0.63s if you use Shift + S, for a grand total of (approximately) 4.00s of time save.
  77.
  78.
  79.
  80. *** Total ***
  81.
  82. This is how much time you save by using Shift + S optimally over using Shift for unskippable text boxes and Escape everywhere else:
  83.
  84. Camera Controls ------------------ 0.93s
  85. Tutorials ------------------ 3.62s
  86. Truth Bullets ------------------ 4.48s
  87. Challenge Start! ------------------ 8.63s
  88. Toko's Fantasy ------------------ 1.60s
  89. Byakuya Text ------------------ 1.87s (approx.)
  90. End of Chapter ------------------ 26.04s
  91. The Controller ------------------ 4.00s
  92.
  93. Total ------------------ 51.17s
