  5. hey guys how you doing it's the honeydew
  6. carpenter I got over 5 million views on
  7. this one project now there's a lot of
  8. misconceptions about it when I started
  9. this thing it was completely
  10. experimental and so I'm gonna go through
  11. the top 5 things that actually worked
  12. well and the top 5 things that didn't
  13. work so well and actually had to change
  14. things around and do them differently
  15. for things to go smoothly and to get
  16. this project done if you ever wanted to
  17. duplicate a project like that shop I
  18. built out behind grandpa's house this is
  19. a video you are gonna want to watch
  20. thanks guys
  21. I'm gonna go ahead and give a thumbs up
  22. to using sheet metal studs to create the
  23. wall panel forms now whether you're
  24. going around a window or a door or
  25. headers it allowed me a great deal of
  26. flexibility to build the building blocks
  27. in whatever configuration I wanted to do
  28. as you can see here I originally planned
  29. on doing the gable in multiple pieces in
  30. multiple building blocks these sheet
  31. metal studs can be manipulated into any
  32. configuration or any shape that you want
  33. so I was able to go ahead and do them in
  34. one piece forms and it made it way more
  35. simple from a production standpoint
  36. actually got the point where I could
  37. measure stick in my jig the pieces and
  38. fasten them together and complete a form
  39. in eight minutes and so I was able to do
  40. multiple forms in one day I think we did
  41. like 32 of them and I did it all with
  42. the help of a 16 year old kid from an
  43. engineering standpoint whether you're
  44. building a shop the shed or even a tiny
  45. home leaving the sheet metal studs
  46. around your heir Creek building blocks
  47. gives us a building a great deal of
  48. structural integrity as well using even
  49. a rudimentary plan you can go ahead and
  50. build the blocks and then they'll just
  51. fit together kind of like Lincoln Logs
  52. and because they're made of air treat
  53. and they're light two people can put
  54. them in place
  55. guys I tried many things and thumbs up
  56. to using this Queen as an underlayment
  57. for each panel you there 16 inches wide
  58. just cut 20 inch pieces and then stretch
  59. them out because the visqueen roll comes
  60. in ten by hundred foot pieces the forms
  61. fit right on and that gives you two
  62. inches on each side of the panel to roll
  63. up the side and just tape it to it and
  64. then once the panel set up and cure it
  65. out it just peels right off and they
  66. look great
  67. Here I am pill in the plastic off of a
  68. raised garden bed panel but whether
  69. you're building a building or a raised
  70. garden bed it really doesn't matter
  71. this ain't the same applies you just
  72. peel it off okay guys I'm gonna go ahead
  73. and give a big thumbs up to using rabbit
  74. wire as reinforcement in the panel's you
  75. just cut it to whit cut it to length and
  76. then it just fits right into the panel
  77. and you can cut little pieces of it and
  78. use those as wedges to just hold the
  79. rabbit wire on one side of the panel at
  80. this point guys you only need
  81. reinforcement on one side of the panel
  82. when you put the building up and put the
  83. stucco on the outside it'll get
  84. reinforcements on the outside just as a
  85. little tip I'm gonna give a thumbs down
  86. to using regular tin snips to cut rabbit
  87. wire just invest in the double cuts it
  88. makes it so much easier
  89. I am also gonna give a thumbs up to
  90. taking your mixing receptacle and
  91. cutting it down to size the smaller the
  92. better okay this is a big no-no I
  93. totally abandoned it don't use a cement
  94. mixer
  95. the only way I got it to work was to
  96. throw rocks in with it and then it was
  97. difficult to get consistent panels
  98. mixing your slurry in a cement mixer of
  99. the first ten panels I made when I
  100. started this experiment I actually had
  101. to throw like five of them away because
  102. they were so light and it was just hard
  103. to get consistency using a cement mixer
  104. do yourself a favor just weigh out the
  105. ingredients stick them in there put the
  106. water in mix up your slurry and then put
  107. the foam in with it just for mixing the
  108. slurry I use a beater mixer that looks
  109. like this
  110. and I got it at Home Depot and it works
  111. just fine
  112. adding the foam to your slurry this is
  113. great especially if you're wanting to
  114. spray some engine degreaser or something
  115. on your car but I just found that for
  116. more controlled and a measured thing I
  117. came up with the wand accessory and for
  118. me I just like it it works a little bit
  119. better and I don't think you lose as
  120. many bubbles like you do when it's
  121. coming out at a high velocity it's just
  122. more of a measured thing and you can
  123. fill it right up to the line right where
  124. you want to be at okay while this did
  125. work and it really looks cool it
  126. eventually broke because the vibration
  127. and stuff and what I found guys I
  128. completely abandon it because it works
  129. three times as fast if you just used the
  130. augur by itself I was so glad that
  131. sleeve broke on that auger I thought it
  132. was a good idea I was gonna try it but
  133. afterward as fast as Melanie could put
  134. the foam in this thing could fold it
  135. right in it just works so good so yes on
  136. the auger but as far as using the
  137. two-stroke motor and the actual whole
  138. shebang I would just go ahead and get an
  139. electric one I've sent a band in that I
  140. actually welded a drill in on the auger
  141. and I just used a heavy-duty industrial
  142. drill in the video there was a method to
  143. my madness once I got the panels poured
  144. I tried to stomp along the side of it
  145. just to make sure that no air bubbles
  146. got caught up in it I recommend you
  147. actually get an electric massager and
  148. just vibrate the side of the panel that
  149. actually works good okay thumbs down on
  150. this guy's it did not work don't cover
  151. the panels while they're still wet
  152. because what happens is the skin
  153. actually cures and sticks to the top
  154. layer of this queen and when you go to
  155. peel it off what happens is it actually
  156. comes off with the visqueen instead of
  157. doing this just go ahead and let it sit
  158. out in the open air for 18 to 24 hours
  159. and then
  160. put a layer of visqueen over it and let
  161. it cure out for several days and that
  162. holds the moisture in and helps it cure
  163. SuperDuper hard check out our Etsy store
  164. that's where you can learn everything
  165. you need to know about building the foam
  166. 8 for yourself so you can do these
  167. projects or I'll build one for you and
  168. send it out to you thanks guys
  169. hey guys Here I am putting the scratch
  170. coat on but before you do that you're
  171. gonna want to do some prep work I am a
  172. big fan of engineering and right here I
  173. am putting hurricane strap
  174. I am anchoring them directly to the
  175. reinforced concrete slab that this
  176. building sits on I am installing the
  177. anchors in an X configuration on all the
  178. corners of the building as well as every
  179. third panel throughout the field gets a
  180. X configuration as well and everywhere
  181. one of the straps crosses the sheet
  182. metal stud configuration it gets
  183. fastened into the stud as well okay here
  184. I'm wetting down the wall in preparation
  185. for the first layer or the base coat of
  186. stucco the scratch coat and you can
  187. clearly see the X configurations of the
  188. reinforcement on the walls and that
  189. panel to my right is a really good
  190. illustration of one of those panels that
  191. the skin was pulled off of it once it's
  192. covered with a stucco it's not you won't
  193. be able to see it and it looks really
  194. good but regardless it's nice to have a
  195. skin on them so guys this is my very
  196. first stucco project and we really had
  197. no idea we were doing but our boys and I
  198. had a ton of fun regardless though I was
  199. able to put some on and get it smooth
  200. and it ended up looking really good the
  201. whole family ended up having a ton of
  202. fun and in the end it ended up looking
  203. pretty good now every time I do a
  204. project I learn a ton about efficiency
  205. and better ways to do it even though I
  206. put the mud on one trial at a time for
  207. this base coat here's a little bit of a
  208. sneak peak of when we were putting the
  209. fiberglass mesh
  210. on the outside with the final stucco
  211. coat and I found that there are better
  212. ways to put this stucco on and it is
  213. using a spraying apparatus if you like
  214. what we're doing here be sure and like

  217. store and check out our faux mates I'd
  218. love to send you one
