  1. Thesis Statement: What makes a soldier brave is their ability to push through the fear of war and defend their country this is event in war.
  2.
  3. Point 1: War
  4. War is one of those things that is almost always horrible but is still an option for things such as helping your countries economy, defending your country, ending practices like slavery but that doesn’t come without many consequences.
  5. Fact 1: Economy
  6. Although you may not want to admit it war makes a lot of money, this becomes extremely evident when looking at wars such as World War 2, the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War. Countries like the United States made and spent billions of dollars on these wars with estimates saying the Afgan war cost taxpayers a total of 2.4 trillion dollars. Most of these profits come from the sale of weapons, machinery, vehicles, aircrafts, electronic and artillery. Not the mention the influx of new jobs, during WW2 17 million new civilian jobs were created, industrial productivity increased 96 percent, and corporate profits after taxes doubled. As a result of the wage increases by 1944 weekly wages were 50% higher than in 1939. Most people believe on of the contributor to the end of the great depression was WW2 and it becomes evident why when you look into how much it boosted the American Economy.
  7. Fact 2: Shapes the world ahead of us
  8. When we look at how war has shaped our world it has brought many good and bad things, one of those good things was ending slavery. The civil war was fought from 1861 to 1865 between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America, the Confederates were a collection of 11 states that left the union in 1860 and 1861 and formed their own country in order to protect the institution of slavery. The US thought that the southern states were wrong to leave the union and initiated the war that lasted 4 years and ended with the US defeating the Confederate states and intern abolishing slavery nation-wide. A little known fact is that the Confederates were actually democrats and not republicans like most people believe, and to this day the democrats try to hide this fact by removing statues, flags, and markers that commemorate the war.
  9. Fact 3: Inevitable Consequences
  10. At the end of the day, however beneficial the war was there will always be inevitable long term and short term consequences. Although soldiers and civilians experience war differently both can suffer unspeakable atrocities. In the past decade alone up to two million of those killed in wars were children. Another big problem that we are currently dealing with is the mental health of current or previous soldiers. Depending on the war the rates will be higher or lower, for example almost 31% of Vietnam veterans have PTSD and around 10-11% of people coming back from the Gulf War and Afghanistan war have PTSD. Long term wars and can lead to the destruction of infrastructure and cultural heritage, for the example 70% of Vietnam’s infrastructure was destroyed because of the war and in Afghanistan a pair of 6th century monumental statues were destroyed in 2001 by the Taliban.

To enlist into the military is one of the most selfless acts one can do, not only are they risking their life to defend their country but they are also putting their family in jeopardy since they may not coming back and more cases than not this seriously affects the family. Causality rate greatly differs on the war but in previous war casualty rates have been as high 1 in 56 (World War II).
  16. Fact 2: Pressures to perform
  17. Alongside the great sacrifices soldiers must make they also experience constant pressure to perform. In a state of war civilians looks to soldiers to defend them and their country, this could mean millions of people are looking up to you to defend them and their country. Regardless of how good you did your if you lose the war criticisms will always follow, for some this might not be easy to handle because based on the size of your country 10’s of millions or even 100’s of millions of people will looking down on you.
  18. Fact 3: The reward
  19. In the end veterans are given the ultimate reward, respect. To be able to do such acts not for yourself but so that the citizens of your country can prosper and live peacefully the least we can do is them respect. This is clearly evident when we look at anyone who have served in the military, they are usually thanked and treated with the upmost respect by people they don’t even know.

  26. Fact 1: accepting risks and sacrifices
  27. Being willing to accept the risks and sacrifices of the job may sound simple enough but not when the risks and sacrifices can be this high. For someone with a family and life ahead of them to enlist is something that requires lot of bravery, knowing you have chance to lose it all and still enlisting is not an easy thing to do.
  28. Fact 2: Being able to believe in the cause
