- As they wandered the nightscape, the boy took advantage of their time between executed odd jobs and errands. Their eyes taken to a book by a runic instructor -- Christophore Garijn.
- An Introductory Guide To Runes
- The occasional hum murmured from his person, bobbing a head at the different symbols amongst 'The Big Eight'.
- It was only once they got to Delphina to take to a bench that he managed to start his official practice. Eyes were closed, and memory sought to reclaim what he had only just been reading... His freed right hand was cast before him, and he sought to feel out the resonation of mana beneath the surface.
- The Ether that coursed through his circuitry, pulsating into and through the nexuses within his palm, and oozing through the flesh to be molded.
- Using what irradiated from his hand, he glided an open-palm forth, creating an aerial canvas for which he'd dabble upon. Fingers drifted upon it, eventually scribing a series of symbols to represent an element that lied upon the precipice of the arcane - the language of the angels themselves.
- [Ether]
- Eyes opened to reveal to himself that the boy had indeed managed to craft a rune by memory! He was getting better... Now, it was time to follow through with some of the instructions he had come to uncover over the previous months.
- [Shield]
- The very first instruction he had come to memorize... With that said, a characteristic was required. Something that both the 'Ether' element and 'Shield' construct could accomplish. It was meant to protect... But how did it protect?
- The next symbol was scribed within a revolving canvas, taking more of the shape of a magic circle by the fleeting moment.
- [Absorb]
- Alas, the majority of the instructions were in place.
- He simply needed a target. As his finger drifted for his construct to apply it? Movement within his peripheral vision distracted him, leaving the magical circle to unimpressively burst into a smog before his face.
- A sigh... Disappointment... And the group would be off once more.
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Hamza Gazi asks, "Oh, why?"
- Suleiman Gazi says, "I just told ya...."
- Suleiman Gazi says, "Oscuri and undead."
- Hamza Gazi asks, "No, I meant why are there oscuri and undead?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Well... Oscuri, because... Who knows..."
- Suleiman Gazi says, "No idea, they appeared outta nowhere."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "And undead because necromancers suck."
- Hamza Gazi says, "Agreed."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Like making life worse for everyone else."
- You have stopped following Hamza Gazi.
- Hamza Gazi exclaims, "Alright, beat it up!"
- You have completed the quest "Grumble in the Grotto"!
- Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "The ball is in your court, bro!"
- You are now following Hamza Gazi
- Suleiman Gazi says, "Well... that was the errands."
- Suleiman Gazi asks, "What should we do now?"
- Hamza Gazi says, "Hm..."
- Bayezid Gazi actively attempts to skimmer through his book with visible frustration.
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Hmmm..."
- Hamza Gazi asks, "What are you reading there, Bayezid?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "I think I've almost got it, but..."
- Bayezid Gazi asks, "Huh?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Oh."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "It's uh... A book that an instructor gave me."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "It's about Runecasting..."
- Hamza Gazi says, "Ah, how interesting."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Stuff is annoying to get right, but... It's one of the four means of magus casting."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Trying to learn it, as part of a theory I'm testing."
- Bayezid Gazi asks, "... Wanna help me out?"
- Hamza Gazi asks, "How would I?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Hmm... I guess that's a pretty good question..."
- Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "Ah!"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "So, I can try to use runecasting, and see if you can dispel it after its initiated! ... Or rather, if I can cast it at all."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Hmmm, nah. That's not it."
- Hamza Gazi says, "Dispel... yes... I do not know how to do that either."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "... Oh, no - uh... Dispelling isn't necessarily something you have to -understand-."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "It's the -failure- of a spell, really."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "So, in some cases, you can cause a spell to fail by undoing a required component... Or just overwhelming it."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Honestly, I wouldn't expect you to know how to -undo- my spell, if I pull it off. However, if you or Suleiman were to try and overwhelm it? That would also work."
- Suleiman Gazi says, "Hamza should do it, he needs trainin'."
- Suleiman Gazi picks up Rucksack.
- Hamza Gazi asks, "So just pump it full of mana, then?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Moreso, just try to hit it.... Really, really hard."
- Hamza Gazi exclaims, "That should be easy!"
- Hamza Gazi says, "I would think."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "I'd think so too... Only one way to find out, I guess..."
- You have stopped following Hamza Gazi.
- Bayezid Gazi asks, "I'll be outside, I suppose... Unless Nilharra would be best for this sorta thing. What do you think, Suleiman?"
- Hamza Gazi says, "Hm-"
- Hamza Gazi exclaims, "Who is that?!"
- Hamza Gazi points to the Pumpkin Knight, before looking a little harder.
- (Hamza Gazi)
- Hamza Gazi says, "Ah, Suleiman."
- Pumpkin Knight says, "I am the pumpkin knight."
- Bayezid Gazi turns around to witness -- The Pumpkin Knight.
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Ah! Suleiman is no longer with us."
- Hamza Gazi asks, "Who be the Pumpkin Knight?"
- Hamza Gazi asks, "Aside from the man who was just there?"
- Bayezid Gazi says, "The Pumpkin Knight..."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "He is -just that-..."
- Hamza Gazi asks, "Is this some kind of... prank?"
- Hamza Gazi asks, "Is it?"
- Pumpkin Knight says, "Nah."
- Pumpkin Knight says, "Our family is connected to the esteemed pumpkin order of britannia."
- Hamza Gazi says, "Ah, I see."
- Pumpkin Knight says, "M'kay, Bayezid."
- Pumpkin Knight says, "Continue with yer experiment."
- Bayezid Gazi says, "Course, Course."
- Hamza Gazi nods.

- Out and into the rain -- dancing off the top of his rice farmer's hat. He stared off into the horizon, making his next few steps outside. A nice long whiff of the outdoors and an ease of the mind. He had packed the book away and took to memorization of most of the runic alphabet in his mind. He had enough to formulate some of the basics, even to the point where he could likely get the instructions for his first spell.
- "Alright, Hamza..." His swiveled his stature to face the red haired razuka. "The instructions are simple..."
- He adjusted his other foot for firm footing, intent on remaining resolute from whatever impact may've come for him.
- "All you have to do? Is strike upon me as hard as you can... --and break the spell I cast. Got it?" His eyes closed, not quite waiting for the man to give confirmation as to understanding the instructions. They seemed simple enough.
- He was retracing the sensation -- not quitecasting yet, simply feeling the mana throughout his circuitry, and allowing it to permeate the skin, irradiating from his form for a translucent glow. A shroud of his essence encompassing his physical form...
- "It doesn't matter what method you use... So... Have at it..."
- The preparations were underway.
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Bayezid Gazi has engaged Hamza Gazi in Restrained combat, with a capture roll of 0
- Lurk is munching on some donuts and various other foods.
- (Lurk)
- Hamza is... quite surprised with the idea of attacking Bayezid out of the blue. "Wait, I am supposed to attack you directly? I assumed I would have to attack the rune you cast..." Still, might as well get the practice in, after all.
- "So, are you sure this could work? I'm not that strong currently, and it might not work..." Hamza takes an inquisitive look at Bayezid, before understanding the task at hand. "Very well then, I will attempt to be safer, at the least."
- Hamza readies himself, a shroud of crystals begin to surround him, at least they seem more blunted than normal. "I would say you won't feel a thing, but it's a lie and we both know that."
- (Hamza Gazi)
- The radiation of mana through his pores soon coalesced at his fingertips. A glide of his hand before him manifested a translucent slate for which to draw upon. All of this was taking place as Hamza spoke, before he would retrace his antics...
- Thankfully, this was a training setting -- but in the future? It would be for real. He had to recollect each aspect of the endeavor -- actively recall each act.
- [Ether]
- The first rune was scribed, dictating the magic tree that would be worked with. It was the most fundamental element, stripped bare of attunements.
- Then, came the shape...
- [Shield]
- It was to be a barrier forged of the etheric mana within his circuitry. Though, programming a spell from scratch took more than a generalized element and shape -- it required characteristics:
- [Absorb]
- Now, he would be commanding the runes slowly rotating on a magic circle levitating at his fingertips to forge a shield of ether capable of absorbing the impacts and damage of forces imposed upon it. Though, there required a target -- this was where he fumbled before.
- By now? He was expecting Hamza to make their move.
- [Self]
- The instructions were clear now, and the disc took to an opaque sapphire gleam, slowly expanding to forge a spherical construct around Bayezid. Their expression appeared fierce, focused... Recalling the runes with better ease having completed his first iteration, and applying his efforts to memorizing it beyond the mind, but the circuitry himself.
- He had to become proficient in 'printing' them for later, so that he could become more effective at runecasting in the heat of the moment.
- However, that wasn't the current focus...
- Rather, it was -- Could his runecasted ether shield hold up against whatever Hamza had in store?
- "What's taking you so long..."
- A taunt, from a teenager that was likely out of their league.
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Hamza Gazi says, "... Very well then."
- Was it... Working?! The barrier was constructed and... Earthen spears erected from the ground and jagged crystal poked and prodded with a ferocity that cast dust around and behind the aegis. Hands raised and crossed his form even as he reflexively found himself doubting his own spell's capacity.
- Yet, he was not immediately crushed as he feared! Instead, the tremors cast from the spells eventually drew his attention... Was he... Actually, pulling this off? Safe for the time being!
- "How about that! It w--"
- CRACK
- His heart sank for the time being...
- Looked like, for as effective as a runecasted shield was? It was far from perfect.
- Turns out, it'd shatter right then and there, leaving what excess remained behind the initial spear to toil the former nonmagus Bayezid to the ground once more.
- A grunt... A moment's pause, and then, slow rise up to his feet.
- "No..." He groaned, "I'll be alright."
- (Bayezid Gazi)
- Hamza Gazi chuckles a bit.
- (Hamza Gazi)
- Hamza Gazi says, "Well, it worked for the moment, at least."
- As Bayezid dusted himself off he couldn't help but wonder where things may've gone south...
- Perhaps, the barrier simply lacked power? After all, the essence put into a rune was what provided the longievity and strength -- was it not? A weak magi couldn't necessarily produce a powerful rune.
- Further thought on the matter seemed to introduce a contradicting through.
- At least, a weak magi couldn't reliably produce a strong rune...
- "My theory is... My lack of magus power caused the shield to break." A fair and easy conclusion...
- "However, it is so - because I used a magus casting technique on its own, for a spell manifested at my base potential."
- His eyes fell back unto Hamza now, "If I were to find a way to master all four casting techniques:
- Runecasting, Wordcasting, Visionary Casting, and Symbolic Casting -- I should be able to execute identical spells that are not exclusive to any one casting method, several times over... Whether it'd be back-to-back casting..."
- His eyes broke from his kin, gazing upon the sodden soil as he trailed off... Mumbling something to himself -- likely still theorizing aloud.
- "Or... Concurrent Casting..."
- So, that was it?
- "A spell is usually only as powerful as its caster, but it can vary wildly in how much practice or proficiency is applied in the spell. Most magi only focus on raw power and the elements, ignoring the technique...
- I'm theorizing that if I practice the techniques... Then I won't need raw power to compensate. The proficiency of more elemental spells will prove effective all on their own."
- With that said, it could be claimed that he had gotten a decent enough hold over runecasting to actively attempt it at a later date. Not quite reliably to fashion himself in conflict better than a seasoned runecaster -- but enough so, the cast on a simplistic fashion.
- More practice was required.
