  1. Hello, sorry for not posting this personally, as I don't have a kiwifarms account nor do I use any other forums. I meant to address this much sooner, but some IRL things came up that pulled me away for a few hours. I would like to go over the "Reimu Incident", recount what happened, explain what caused the issues, address what I'm doing to fix and settle the troubles, and lastly to make a few personal apologies.

  3. Several days ago, perhaps a night or two before the tournament (Friday, 4/16), Reimu contacted me privately through in-game channels to report an exploit he'd found. He and his priest alts had discovered that, through some poorly configured mod changes (which are my fault), it was unintentionally possible to put every single damage enchant and speed/utility enchant on any weapon. He proceeded to use several known "optimal" methods to rapidly raise his jewelrysmithing to high levels, craft himself high QL statuettes, and apply rarity to them using strange bones he gained from sacrificing rares. Without going into precise technical details (ask me in-game and I will gladly explain how it all works to you, and even walk you through how to do it yourself), he was able to reliably cast very high power enchants on the same weapon, effectively making an omni-magic "God Staff". He contacted me to report this after testing it, and he did not use it for the gain of himself or anyone else before showing me the staff. I examined it, was impressed, asked him about his methods, and we talked about the issue for a while. I was a little more impressed than I should have been, and considered keeping the "feature" in the game, though I understood how to fix it. Reimu strongly urged me to make sure that blacklight priests weren't locked out of this "feature" by giving priests of Libila access to all damage enchants as well (but not Nimbleness, at my own personal judgement). We both remarked that these omni-enchant weapons fit the theme of the server, and were a fitting reward for the autistic magical focus and prowess required to craft one. In response, I added several spells to BL priest tables, and informed HOTS of this "feature" and change. They were, predictably, impressed and overjoyed. One thing I failed to do was inform JK / GE / "The Kiwis" of this feature, and I confess to that grievance and own up to it, though please understand it was absent-mindedness and not deliberate sabotage or favoritism. More about this later.

  5. At the day of the tournament, little need to be explained about what happened. Reimu won both his duels by a landslide. He then soloed each enemy faction and beat them both by an embarrassing margin. Understandably, the suspicion of botting arose. Reimu is known for botting, and I am known for being lax and tolerant of bots in this serb and the past one I ran. My justification for this is the "arms-race-argument", that I personally dislike the use of bots, but feel that policing kingdoms for them is a bad use of time which I could spend doing more constructive things. Botters are also known for being superb at circumventing these checks, and Reimu has bragged openly about having a bot script that could pass for a human player on some pub servers, fooling their bot-police-admins. So, in the past, I have begrudgingly allowed bots as long as they don't hurt anyone or provide unreasonable and unfair advantages to their kingdom. Reimu singlehandedly killed every non-MR player at the tournament and also provided several god-weapons to MR's other combatants. I dislike being in the position where I have to judge or take administrative actions, but I feel like I'm forced to here.
  6. One other thing to clarify, I genuinely do not believe that Reimu intended to create this much disturbance. He's been happy and content to keep his bots and alts confined to his island, building an impressive and elaborate fortress. I firmly believe that he did not do anything wrong, as he came to me with the exploit he found and I personally allowed it to happen. If blame for the "Reimu Incident" is to rest on any shoulders, it should be mine. I allowed him to use this knowledge based on my own personal preferences and "vision". More about this later.

  8. Having covered what happened and how, it's time for me to explain how I hope to fix this issue. First, the grievances against me that I'm aware of: (1) allowing a cool and thematically appropriate "feature" to exist which gave a crushing advantage to mainly one person initially, (2) failing to fairly inform everyone of this slightly rash decision, (3) allowing an otherwise benign player to use this feature for immense personal and factional benefit, while having the moral authority to do so (from me).
  9. I'm aware of general "anti-bot sentiment," and I'll address that at the end of this block.
  10. First, for (1), I believe making that decision mid-server was inappropriate of me, however much it fit my vision. This bug should have been fixed, or players should have been polled. As Kiwis suffer(ed) the most from this exploit existing, it is just and rightful that you should be the ones to decide whether or not this feature stays enabled. If you decide it's out, then I'll patch the damage enchants to work as intended, and manually delete every "god weapon" (I have ways of finding them through the database).
  11. Next, for (2), since it regards information I did my best to make the dangerous information that led to this situation known to all, so it isn't an unknown factor any longer. To help you catch up to the power curve, I would like to give you faction two jewelrysmithing affinities, which should make getting high QL statuettes much easier and faster. This will be especially useful if you choose to keep the omni-enchants enabled, but will be nice even if you choose otherwise.
  12. Last is (3). A combination of things led to the situation that put you at such a disadvantage. I feel that there is no "just" way to remedy this, exactly. The best thing I can do is try to bluntly give you an advantage to put you back on par with the other faction(s). You have an open offer to have one person made a priest to the deity of their choice, at 60-70 starting faith and channeling. This is to help you "stack enchants" if you choose to keep them on, or to give you more variety if you don't. This offer is independent of your current lone priest leaving, I'll still pass the staff on if he's truly gone for good, so you technically have two "insta-priest" cards, and I'm willing to negotiate or accommodate most any special requests you have about this.
  13. I'm aware that the reason this exploit blew up (Reimu and his botting priest alts) has not been properly addressed. I spoke to him in private, and would rather not go into detail about the conversation, but here's what you need to know:
  14. *MR will not receive any more assistance from Reimu.
  15. *Reimu will not abuse these powers further to harm any more people.
  16. I stand by my judgement that he didn't mean to cause this much trouble, and that he wanted to test the limits of the game and enjoy the banter and company of the others on this server. I'm aware of the grievances against him, and so is he. He won't trouble anyone else, but welcomes anyone to come lay siege to touhou island if they have complaints to voice in person.
  17.
  18. I hope that covers everything about this issue. I apologize to those who were hoping for a blanket "bot ban". I understand the sentiment, but I want to reiterate, ==this was my fault, not Reimu==. HOTS created the same (albeit not as powerful) omni-weapons when they learned of the exploit, and Reimu did what he thought was far and just at every turn, including checking for permission from me. I don't see any reason to prevent him from building his cathedral of solitude so long as he promises not to reach out from it. He's just a guy who wants to build without being lonely.

  20. Last, just so it's said:
  21. I'm sorry for the buggy state of the server, and I'm sorry that I deliberately chose to keep some of the bugs in due to my "vision".
  22. I'm sorry that I failed to inform all factions and players equally of these bugs, and my intentions to keep them.
  23. I'm sorry that I allowed these bugs to be used by the one person who would push them to their absolute limits.
  24. I'm sorry that my decisions and my actions caused a great number of people to be hurt, PK'd, and upset.
  25. I take full responsibility for this, I apologize for the harm caused from it, and I hope to undo as much of this as possible.
  26. Please understand and let me know how else I can help.
