   + ru hyekyung used to be an only child of ru sehyuk and ru junghee. growing up, hyekyung had a love-hate relationship with the royal life. love because of all the things it had brought her (gowns, jewelry, good food, all the pretty things, including boys), and hate because it comes with a big price. a lot of them. etiquette, responsibilities, not having a fun and normal childhood, having all eyes on her, being in the palace all of her life. she wasn't exactly reckless and disobedient, but she didn't really give any care to the royal life back when she was young. her father was too much of serious man for hyekyung to develop a good relationship with the man. her mother, however, she got along quite well. they weren't close, but hyekyung would often go to her whenever she wanted company. her mother liked to garden and usually hyekyung would join in whenever she did, that's where her love for flowers and gardening came from. but her mother passed away from an illness when she was 18. it didn't knock her out of balance as one would expect, but the woman was still her mother and hyekyung was devastated. her mother was the only woman she had been slightly close with. nonetheless, she moved on quickly (and felt slightly terrible about it). a few years after that her father re-married. hyekyung wasn't too happy about the addition to the family. her step-mother was too controlling and acted as if she had lived there all her life. hyekyung was resentful towards the woman, still is, but realized that holding a grudge would just get her nowhere so she forced herself to live with it. besides, the marriage wasn't all that bad. she got to meet lihwa, who had not just become her sister but also her best friend.
