  1. "QUIVER IN MY GLORY, MANAGER~~~!"
  2.
  3. Dante barely manages to duck out of the way when Don drives her lance through a car door. When he's reeling from the sheer strength, Don clasps her hands around the weapon and spins herself with it, driving an axe kick right through the fire and onto the top of Dante's head.
  4.
  5. "...that one doesn't work so well." Dante critiques her boisterous call as he punches the back of her knee, slotting his shoulder between her legs and sending her careening over the destroyed convertible. The blonde sticks the landing surprisingly well, ripping off a stray piece of metal and trying to stab Dante's outstretched arm. He has to slam the appendage into the car's hood to avoid it, and he moves back to get some distance from her before she can take a chunk out of him,
  6.
  7. "Aww, really? I thought it would be a great way to introduce myself!" Don Quixote grins cheerily as she rubs a spot of dirt off of her cheek, walking around the vehicle and wrenching the lance from it. "What about...'tis I, Don Quixote! The golden sunrise from beyond the haze! Your shining--"
  8.
  9. Dante rolls his shoulders and surges forward, slapping aside the lance and landing a shot across Don's cheek. The woman rolls with the punch quite well, spitting out a spot of blood before rocking Dante's side with the widest part of her lance.
  10.
  11. "You'll be nothing more than paste if you keep monologuing while fighting." Dante groans as pain thrums throughout his ribs, snapping an elbow at Don's temple. The short girl blinks owlishly at him as she catches it with her free hand, dropping her lance before notching her shoulder under his armpit and tossing him over her shoulder.
  12.
  13. A common tactic with the Sinners. It's why he's able to perch atop the car and slam a boot into her nose. She screams as her head rocks back, and as she flails, Dante feels something cut through his jacket and embed into his side.
  14.
  15. The piece of metal that she snagged. She's more clever than she appears.
  16.
  17. Dante springs off of the car and prepares to bring his boots down on Don's head, only to be surprised when she kips up and intertwines their legs, curling up and using the momentum to slam Dante into the ground. The clock looks up in shock as Don smiles down at him, her golden eyes bright enough to be blinding.
  18.
  19. "Didja know, didja know? You're not too flexible, my squire!" Don punches him in the face with three quick jabs, using a knee to keep herself perched on his stomach. "I used to do gymnastics, when I was a wee tot! Looks like it sticks!"
  20.
  21. Dante reaches up to try and throw her off, but all this accomplishes is getting the woman to giggle as she twists and writhes out of his grasp. When he goes to punch her, she catches it between her arm. When he tries to use his knees, she just stays put.
  22.
  23. This is starting to feel more like a play fight than a proper spar. That's all the motivation Dante needs to headbutt her when she gets close enough, finally unseating her from his torso. As she falls back over his knees, he snags her by the arm and moves to force it into the ground, applying the knee to her elbow until he hears a very audible crack.
  24.
  25. Don, strangely, doesn't scream this time as she looks up at him. In fact, it doesn't even feel like she's looking at him - it's like she's looking past him.
  26.
  27. "Oh, really? Well, if you say so..." Dante finds himself roaring in pain as Don sinks her teeth into his unprotected leg, tearing out cloth and flesh and metal as she does. When Dante eases up on her just a fraction, she worms out from underneath him and snatches up her lance with her non-broken arm. "If you really think I can do it...then I guess I'll have to believe you!"
  28.
  29. Dante feels the air shift as he rips the piece of metal out of his side. He's starting to grasp what that sensation means - it's EGO.
  30.
  31. The metal that constitutes Don Quixote's lance begins to crack and separate, revealing a pulsing red interior. The strange substance seems to be eating the metal like an amoeba, and as more of the casing disappears, it begins to shape itself into a much bigger blade - and before Dante can see the result, Don surges forward with a manic grin.
  32.
  33. "Fifty seconds."
  34.
  35. When Don comes close enough, Dante strikes out with a kick to send her off kilter - to his abject surprise, bloody tendrils sprout off and bind his leg to the weapon. In a moment of absolute panic, Dante throws himself to the left as the blade begins to go through his side, barely managing to save his intestines. Tossing the rusted and jagged piece of metal to his left hand, he curls towards Don and stabs her right in the stomach.
  36.
  37. "Fifty-five."
  38.
  39. The girl lets out another cry of pain, which is stifled when Dante snags her by the tie and drives the metal through her chin and into her brain stem. As soon as the blade dissipates and Don drops to the ground, he slams his hands together and begins the recall procedure.
  40.
  41. He doesn't like killing the Sinners during training, but sometimes, it's necessary. It doesn't mean that it doesn't upset him when their eyes hold a hint of fear when he brings them back.
  42.
  43. "...good effort, Don." The man slumps to the ground and rubs his side. "You almost had me."
  44.
  45. "...THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK!" The blonde explodes, immediately rocketing to her feet and taking Dante up with her. She then proceeds to shake him by the shoulders. "ISHMAEL AND OUTIS TOLD ME--"
  46.
  47. Dante would smile if he had a mouth, and he lets the woman launch into a pouty tirade as they begin to make their way back to the bus.
