  1. --------------------Chapter 1--------------------
  2.
  3. Traditionally composing of Alma 36 & 37
  4.
  5. The commandments of Alma the Younger to his son, Helaman.
  6.
  7. 1 Listen to me, my son Helaman. I promise you that if you live a moral life you will prosper.
  8.
  9. 2 Learn from the history of our people, who were once slaves.
  10.
  11. 3 Compared to me, you are still young, Helaman. I want you to hear what I have to teach:
  12.
  13. 4 If you live a moral life, you will be remembered for your morality.
  14.
  15. 5 I realized I did not like the legacy that I would have left during an earthquake and my life was threatened.
  16.
  17. 6 I was so scared that I was in a coma for 3 days and night.
  18.
  19. 6 When I awoke, I resolved to turn away from immorality and live a moral life instead.
  20.
  21. 7 I was filled with joy and light when I thought of my moral future.
  22.
  23. 8 These many years later, I am here to tell you that living a moral life has been a joyous one.
  24.
  25. 9 It has been a joyous one despite being arrested, thrown in jail, and nearly killed.
  26.
  27. 10 I knew that helping others live moral lives was a moral cause.
  28.
  29. 11 I know that I will be remembered for these moral acts of teaching.
  30.
  31. 12 I will one day take my place among our ancestors in our books of history.
  32.
  33. 13 I will always live because I live on in the things that I taught.
  34.
  35. 14 My son, Helaman, I command you to take these records which have been entrusted to me.
  36.
  37. 15 I command you to keep the record of our people, as I have done, upon the plates of Nephi.
  38.
  39. 16 The plates of brass are the history, teaching, and genealogy of our ancestors.
  40.
  41. 16 These records are extremely precious.
  42.
  43. 17 These records have been handed down from generation to generation.
  44.
  45. 18 Our records should one day be given to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, so they can know of our history and our teachings of morality.
  46.
  47. 19 If these records are kept and aren't dimmed by time, they will be valuable to countless people.
  48.
  49. 20 You may think this is a foolish dream, but great things are done by doing small and simple things.
  50.
  51. 21 These small things, in many instances, confound the wise.
  52.
  53. 22 Our family has preserved these records and kept the memory of our ancestors alive while also helping many people live moral lives.
  54.
  55. 23 If it weren't for these records, the Sons of King Mosiah the 2nd would not have been able to help the Ammonites see the error of their ways and the false history taught to them by their fathers.
  56.
  57. 24 These records will likely help thousands more in the future.
  58.
  59. 25 Right now the Nephites are turning away from morality, the Nephites need the lessons contained in the records.
  60.
  61. 26 Remember this simple truth and promise, Helaman:
  62.
  63. 27 If you live a moral life, you will prosper in this land.
  64.
  65. 28 If you live an immoral life, you will suffer in this land.
  66.
  67. 29 You are now entrusted with these records.
  68.
  69. 30 If you live an immoral life, these records will be taken from you.
  70.
  71. 31 If you live a moral life, no power on Earth will be able to take them from you.
  72.
  73. 32 I know that you will do everything in your power to honor him commandment from me and our ancestors.
  74.
  75. 33 I beg you, my son Helaman, to be diligent in fulfilling all my words and in living a moral life.
  76.
  77. 34 I will now speak to you regarding the 24 plates which were found in the land filled with bones.
  78.
  79. 35 If you keep them, one day we will find out how they destroyed themselves.
  80.
  81. 36 One day there will be someone dedicated enough to even use a gazelem, a stone that gives light in the darkness, to reveal the history of these people.
  82.
  83. 37 This history will shine light on a mystery that has puzzled us for generations.
  84.
  85. 38 I believe that these people failed to live moral lives and work together for the betterment of themselves. We have seen this pattern time and time again.
  86.
  87. 40 morality is not restricted within rameumptoms or given secretly to only a few people.
  88.
  89. 41 morality is something that should be given away freely to all people everywhere.
  90.
  91. 42 When you learn what happened, tell these peoples' stories to anyone who will listen.
  92.
  93. 43 Teach our people where these people went wrong, so we can learn from their mistakes.
  94.
  95. 44 Teach our people to be humble, meek, and empathetic.
  96.
  97. 45 Teach our people to withstand the temptations of immorality.
  98.
  99. 46 Teach our people to never tire of living a moral life, because they will find rest in living a moral life.
  100.
  101. 47 Helaman, learn to be wise and moral while you are full of life.
  102.
  103. 48 Go to your brothers for support.
  104.
  105. 49 Let all of your actions wherever you go in life be moral.
  106.
  107. 50 Let your thoughts be directed to helping our brothers and sisters.
  108.
  109. 51 Speak with others that have also committed to living moral lives and they will help you.
  110.
  111. 52 When you lie down at night, do so knowing you were moral that day.
  112.
  113. 53 When you wake up in the morning, do so knowing you will be moral that day.
  114.
  115. 54 I also want to tell you about the compass known as the Liahona that our ancestor Lehi made.
  116.
  117. 55 It was made of brass and was of great workmanship.
  118.
  119. 56 Lehi made it so that he would know where to travel in the wilderness and upon the sea.
  120.
  121. 57 The spindles in it would point towards the north, and they could determine where they were and wanted to go from that.
  122.
  123. 58 When Laman and Lemuel took control over Lehi's family, they prevented Nephi and Lehi from using the Liahona.
  124.
  125. 59 Since they didn't know how to use it, they would get lost.
  126.
  127. 60 I want you to learn from this lesson, Helaman.
  128.
  129. 61 It is easy to go the way you should when you know which way you should.
  130.
  131. 62 Just as the Liahona lead our ancestors to this promised land, morality will lead us to the promised good life.
  132.
  133. 63 Do not let a Laman or a Lemuel take control of our people and get them lost.
  134.
  135. 64 If you do these things, Helaman, you will leave behind a wonderful legacy that will be remembered forever.
  136.
  137. 65 Go and teach our people morality.
  138.
  139. 66 Good bye, my son.
  140.
  141. --------------------Chapter 3--------------------
  142.
  143. Traditionally composing of Alma 38
  144.
  145. The commandments of Alma the Younger to his son, Shiblon.
  146.
  147. 1 Listen to me, my son Shiblon. I promise you that if you live a moral life you will prosper.
  148.
  149. 2 I am filled with joy because of you and your dedication to living a moral life while you were young.
  150.
  151. 3 I hope that your resolve continues until you endure to the end.
  152.
  153. 4 I am filled with joy because of your morality, diligence, patience, and your long-suffering among the people of the Zoramites.
  154.
  155. 5 I knew that you were arrested and beaten for teaching morality.
  156.
  157. 6 You exercised patience because you knew you were helping others.
  158.
  159. 7 My son, Shiblon, I want you to trust in a moral life and the words of our ancestors.
  160.
  161. 8 Endure trials, troubles, and hardships, and you will leave behind a good legacy.
  162.
  163. 9 It is not for me to tell you how to live your life, it is for you to experience.
  164.
  165. 10 I have discovered these things for myself, just as you must.
  166.
  167. 11 I realized I did not like the legacy that I would have left during an earthquake and my life was threatened.
  168.
  169. 12 I was so scared that I was in a coma for 3 days and night.
  170.
  171. 13 When I awoke, I resolved to turn away from immorality and live a moral life instead.
  172.
  173. 14 I was filled with joy and light when I thought of my moral future.
  174.
  175. 15 These many years later, I am telling you this so that you can gain wisdom.
  176.
  177. 16 Living a moral live leads to happiness.
  178.
  179. 17 This truth is what gives life light.
  180.
  181. 18 You have begun to teach morality, and I ask that you continue to do so diligently and with a temperate mind.
  182.
  183. 19 Do not become prideful and boast of your wisdom or strength.
  184.
  185. 20 Use boldness, but don't overbear.
  186.
  187. 21 Master your mind and be filled with love.
  188.
  189. 22 Refrain from excessive idleness.
  190.
  191. 23 Do not follow the imitation morality that the Zoramites practice, because they do so for the praise of the world.
  192.
  193. 24 If you do these things, Shiblon, you will leave behind a wonderful legacy that will be remembered forever.
  194.
  195. 35 Go and teach our people morality.
  196.
  197. 36 Good bye, my son.
  198.
  199. --------------------Chapter 4--------------------
  200.
  201. Traditionally composing of Alma 39-43
  202.
  203. The commandments of Alma the Younger to his son, Corianton.
  204.
  205. 1 Corianton, I have more to say to you than I do your brothers.
  206.
  207. 2 You have not lived your live will as much morality as they have.
  208.
  209. 3 You have not looked to them as examples and have not listened to the lessons I have taught you among the Zoramites.
  210.
  211. 4 You boasted about your own strength and wisdom.
  212.
  213. 5 You gave up teaching morality to go have sex in the Land of Siron.
  214.
  215. 6 We trusted you to help others with us in Antionum, but you only thought of yourself.
  216.
  217. 7 Working for the wellbeing of others is the foundation of morality.
  218.
  219. 8 We told the Zoramites this, but when they saw your conduct, they would not believe we practiced what we taught.
  220.
  221. 9 I wouldn't be talking about this unless it was for your own good.
  222.
  223. 10 I beg you to give up your immoral habits of not caring of others and replace them with moral habits of helping others.
  224.
  225. 11 If you do not, your legacy will not be a favorable one.
  226.
  227. 12 Look to your brothers for support while you are on this moral path. They will help you.
  228.
  229. 13 Listen to their recommendations and don't go chasing waterfalls.
  230.
  231. 14 Do not seek after riches or vain things of the world. They will mean nothing when you die.
  232.
  233. 15 Acknowledge your faults and wrong doings and move past them.
  234.
  235. 16 Go and declare the happiness morality brings to our people.
  236.
  237. 17 Help them to prepare their minds so they can handle hardships.
  238.
  239. 18 Every person that you ever meet is precious and worthy of helping.
  240.
  241. 19 When you help these people, you leave behind a legacy that is immortal.
  242.
  243. 20 None of us know what day we will perish, but it doesn't matter.
  244.
  245. 21 One day death will touch all our lives, so live as if that day is today.
  246.
  247. 21 Those who were moral are remembered for their happiness and peace.
  248.
  249. 22 They are remembered for being able to handle their troubles, trials, hardships, and sorrows.
  250.
  251. 23 Those who were immoral are remembered for their misery and anxiety.
  252.
  253. 24 They are remembered for causing troubles, trials, hardships, and sorrows.
  254.
  255. 25 We will all leave behind a legacy, and these legacies are difficult to change when you are no longer here.
  256.
  257. 26 Even our oldest ancestors knew and taught this.
  258.
  259. 27 If your works are good in this life, and the desires of your heart are good, then you shall be remembered for being good.
  260.
  261. 28 If your works are evil in this life, and the desires of your heart are evil, then you shall be remembered for being evil.
  262.
  263. 29 Do not risk leaving a legacy that you are not proud of, as I nearly did.
  264.
  265. 30 Wickedness never was happiness.
  266.
  267. 31 Everyone who lives a selfish life are slaves to bitterness and unhappiness.
  268.
  269. 32 They have gone contrary to the natural morality and happiness, which is to help one another.
  270.
  271. 33 For that reason, my son Corianton, be merciful, deal justly, judge nobly, and do good continually.
  272.
  273. 34 If you do all these things, then shall you receive your reward.
  274.
  275. 35 I ask you my son, how can a man ask for forgiveness unless he do something wrong?
  276.
  277. 36 How could he do something wrong if he did not hurt someone?
  278.
  279. 37 How can there be wrongdoing without crossing boundaries?
  280.
  281. 38 If concern for others was never a factor, wouldn't you just do whatever you wanted?
  282.
  283. 39 But there are always other people to think about when you make an action.
  284.
  285. 40 When you wrong someone else, there must be justice, no matter how big or small.
  286.
  287. 41 It’s up to those who you wronged to show mercy.
  288.
  289. 42 Everyone may come and eat from the tree of life freely.
  290.
  291. 43 You are not forced to come, but if you choose to dwell in the great and spacious building, you will be remembered for doing so.
  292.
  293. 44 You don't have to worry about anybody but yourself while you learn morality.
  294.
  295. 45 When you have taken care of yourself and learned morality, you will naturally want to help others.
  296.
  297. 46 Don't make excuses for what you have done in the past, just acknowledge your faults and wrong doings and move past them.
  298.
  299. 47 If you do these things, Corianton, you will leave behind a wonderful legacy that will be remembered forever.
  300.
  301. 48 Go and teach our people morality.
  302.
  303. 49 Good bye, my son.
