  1. <Antioch|GM> 2:16 <~Antioch|GM> Findlay pauses for a moment in consideration.
  2. <Antioch|GM> 22:17 <~Antioch|GM> "Conference room 5A," he eventually decides. "Valiant will come up with lunch."
  3. <Antioch|GM> 22:18 <~Antioch|GM> "Now," he says, exhaling, "Sirocco should be defoamed. I'm going to have a word with him."
  4. <Antioch|GM> 22:18 <~Antioch|GM> "Freeman, do what you will."
  5. <Antioch|GM> 22:18 <~Antioch|GM> He stands up, heading out the door. ||
  6. <Antioch|GM> 22:20 <Teruzi|Freeman> What? No Doctor? That's just rude. Richard instead looks at Sorensen. He sighs before speaking. "I guess we should work out what happens next then."||

  8. <Antioch|GM> "Do what you have to," Sorensen says. "I'll be in my office if you need me, drafting scripts for potential scenarios." ||
  9. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Wait." Richard says, a bit more firm than he's used to. "I don't know PR. It's not my job. You do." Richard starts, marking their differing roles clearly.
  10. <Teruzi|Freeman> "I'm asking you, what is worse? For her to be shipped out? Or for her to to have an episode like this in public?" Richard asks, looking directly at Sorensen. There's no hint of his usual gentle tone. "Because if she stays here, I cannot promise any improvements. Not after today."||
  11. <Antioch|GM> "So you're saying it's impossible," he says flatly. ||
  12. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard shakes his head. "Not quite impossible. But it'll be very harsh. No better than basic military training."
  13. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Keep her aggression issues at bay with harsh physical activity. Medicate her. Limit the time she spends free."
  14. <Teruzi|Freeman> "She says she's tired of not doing something. Maybe make it so she's too tired to do anything."
  15. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Pair her up with Valiant for patrols as a way to unwind. Use patrols as rewards." Richard shakes his head. Not something he particularly approves of. But he had to think of the department as well.
  16. <Teruzi|Freeman> Against a rock and a hard place.
  17. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Limit her contact with other team members like Undine or Sirocco."||
  18. <Antioch|GM> Sorensen nods. "I can work with that. Is there any other team member you'd consider her fit to patrol with?" ||
  19. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard sighs, long and hard. "I honestly don't know."
  20. <Teruzi|Freeman> "I'll speak with Sirocco. I'll give you a dossier about my thoughts for her partners later." Richard says, conciliatory now. "I don't envy your position, Mister Sorensen. Good luck."||
  21. <Antioch|GM> "It's not unmanageable, but there's precedent for rumors when two capes consistently patrol together, higher in likelihood and more inflammatory when the two capes are of opposite gender. If she's patrolling with more than one cape, it'll go a long ways towards making my job easier, but in the end, her mental health is the priority."
  22. <Antioch|GM> "It's as you say," he says, sounding weary, "if she has a meltdown in public, things will play out for the worse." ||
  23. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard nods. He didn't appreciate PR. Social scrutiny was a necessity for the PRT, but it was usually a detriment for the capes themselves. That said, he could appreciate the work the people in branding put in. Even if he didn't like them.
  24. <Teruzi|Freeman> "I should go." Richard says. "I wouldn't want to miss the deputy director shouting at Sirocco."||
  25. <Antioch|GM> "I would," he says, sighing. "I'll be in my office. Good luck." ||

  27. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard nods. Despite everything, he's still interested in Sirocco. There was an underlying logic to his madness. Or perhaps it was just a role? More likely the Sirocco persona was a defense mechanism to deal with whatever it was he could see thanks to his power.
  28. <Teruzi|Freeman> Very interesting. And troublesome.
  29. <Teruzi|Freeman> Now were was it that they kept him? Richard starts heading towards the foamed cape.||
  30. <Antioch|GM> It takes him a little bit to pull up the map on his phone after inputting his clearances, but his search is interrupted by a text from Findlay.
  31. <Antioch|GM> "Standard Cell E-01 Auxiliary Holding," the text reads. "Requesting your presence." ||
  32. <Teruzi|Freeman> Oh joy. Why didn't he just ask Richard to come with from the start? Was it really necessary to make a point of leaving him behind?
  33. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard makes haste to the cell. This was bound to be interesting.||
  34. <Antioch|GM> When he arrives there, Sirocco is standing imperiously in a holding cell, image ruined by the fact that his costume is drenched with containment foam. Outside the cell, his golden spear has been confiscated.
  35. <Antioch|GM> He points at Findlay, threat clear in his tone.
  36. <Antioch|GM> "You strike above your station, seneschal. An offense this grave will not be forgotten."
  37. <Antioch|GM> "I outrank you," Findlay replies bluntly. ||
  38. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Deputy Director Findlay. Sirocco." Richard says, entering the cell. "What is-"
  39. <Teruzi|Freeman> Seneschal? What does that make Richard? And what does that make Sirocco?
  40. <Teruzi|Freeman> "You requested me?"||
  41. <Antioch|GM> "This man," Sirocco snarls, "is a traitor. He imprisons me, withholds this information from my queen. I demand you release me and put him to death."
  42. <Antioch|GM> "That's not happening," Findlay says. ||
  43. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Sirocco. Did you, or did you not, attack the hound of your queen?" Richard asks, not missing a beat.||

  72. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Not only her seneschal, but her advisor too is a traitor. Perhaps we ought to get the Queen involved then? See what she thinks?"||

  93. <Antioch|GM> "Parched," Findlay replies. "What's your poison?"
  94. <Antioch|GM> Sirocco doesn't visibly react, retaining the same haughty expression. ||

  100. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Of course, the Seneschal and me have done nothing but work tirelessly to ensure the castle is as grand as it can be."
  101. <Teruzi|Freeman> "You don't have to agree." Richard says, quickly, before Sirocco can scoff.
  102. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Consider, then, the possibility that we are loyal. Here you are, calling us scum. I don't think having suspicious is wrong per se."
  103. <Teruzi|Freeman> "But good manners are never wasted. It's frankly below your position in life to be quite so rude."||
  104. <Antioch|GM> "You are, frankly, beneath my respect." ||
  105. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard smiles thinly again. Sirocco sure made him think of his boys. "I don't think that's for you to decide."
  106. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Nevermind that." Richard moves on, not letting Sirocco get another prod inside. "How long have you been here, Sirocco?"||
  107. <Antioch|GM> "Thirty minutes, perhaps more. Longer, and you try my patience." ||
  108. <Teruzi|Freeman> "In Cleveland." Richard clarifies, but he doesn't hide his smile.||
  109. <Antioch|GM> "I arrived this morning." ||

  111. <Antioch|GM> "I would applaud this achievement," Findlay says, pulling from his flask, "but frankly I have better things I'd like to be doing." ||
  112. <Teruzi|Freeman> "That makes two of us." Richard says, turning around. "Sirocco, wouldn't you agree?"||
  113. <Antioch|GM> "If you mean to say that you waste my time, then you are correct." ||
  114. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Lots of time being wasted today." Richard says, pleased that Sirocco agreed with something. "We all have better things to do, for our stations. Wouldn't you agree?"||
  115. <Antioch|GM> "You claim you test the mettle of the soldiers. Yet you are weak, ungifted. Is this truly your station, or a farce?" ||
  116. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Words are my battlefield, in a way." Richard answers, hardly ruffled. Lots of tantrums going around in the HQ today as well. "People."
  117. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Those with the gift, as you call it, are volatile. Powerful. But also fragile. Childish at times." Richard says, calm. "I'm trained to understand them."
  118. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Or at least, to ensure that there's an understanding between those with the gift and those without."
  119. <Teruzi|Freeman> "As you say, I'm weak." Richard admits. "I have no problem admitting that. But I also understand that there's more than one metric to strength."
  120. <Teruzi|Freeman> "And, unlike you Sirocco, I truly understand what my Queen requires of me."||
  121. <Antioch|GM> "What good does your strength do you? Will your words win a war?" ||
  122. <Teruzi|Freeman> "They have." Richard says, calm. He stares evenly at Sirocco.||
  123. <Antioch|GM> "Truly?" ||
  124. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Once before. Twice, if I wanted to brag. But the second time I merely allowed harsh feelings to be put to the side."
  125. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Words carry meaning, Sirocco. We live and die under them." Richard says, still with an even tone. "You know how they say actions are better than words?"
  126. <Teruzi|Freeman> ||
  127. <Antioch|GM> "Ah. A man of parley. You propose the terms of negotiation." Sirocco turns to the side for a moment, pacing slightly, then turns back.
  128. <Antioch|GM> The door opens, and someone brings in a tray of tea. Well, a thermos of hot water, a cup, a few tea bags, and a few packets of sugar. ||
  129. <Teruzi|Freeman> Tea bags! Richard holds his tongue. "Thank you." He says to the someone. He makes a point not to engage Sirocco for a moment, as he prepares his tea.
  130. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Negotiation. Change. Adjustment." Richard finally says, as he pours the hot water.||
  131. <Antioch|GM> He nods, taking a seat. "Name your terms." ||
  132. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard takes a sip of his tea first. No rush. He's not the one in trouble.
  133. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Seneschal? I think I would work best as a mediator." Surely Findley knew the bad cop good cop routine? This would be a loose version.||
  134. <Antioch|GM> "Alright, sure," Findlay says.
  135. <Antioch|GM> "Listen, Sirocco, your..." he pauses, sighing, pinching the bridge of his nose, "... queen is preoccupied with other matters. She has enemies. She's working to secure information on them so that you can... hunt them for her. While her attention is turned towards external matters, I have to maintain the peace in... her court."
  136. <Antioch|GM> He takes another pull from his flask, taking a moment to pause and look at Freeman for guidance or continuation. ||
  137. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard nods. "It is true. The Queen has many enemies."
  138. <Teruzi|Freeman> "And, whatever your intentions were, you and the Hound disrupted her peace." Richard goes on. "This was an oversight. Something that shouldn't have happened."
  139. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Wouldn't you agree, Sirocco?"||
  140. <Antioch|GM> He doesn't respond for a moment, pursing his lips.
  141. <Antioch|GM> "You would test the Hound with your words. How? How would you mold her to the Queen's bidding?" ||
  142. <Teruzi|Freeman> "She's neither prey, nor hunter. She oscillates in the middle. Her show today? That is how a trapped prey reacts. Lashing out, scared." Richard says.
  143. <Teruzi|Freeman> "She might have failed your test. But my work might make a proper Hound out of her yet." Richard continues.
  144. <Teruzi|Freeman> "But we're not talking about her, are we?"||
  145. <Antioch|GM> "Then how would you test me?" he asks. ||
  146. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard looks at Sirocco. A pointed question. That was one of the least favorite things about his job, in a way. A man that could very well kill you asking for something he will not like to hear.
  147. <Teruzi|Freeman> And yet, Richard is vaguely thrilled.
  148. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Whether your station is above ours or not is not really for me or you to decide. But we each have our roles." Richard says, the very image of calm and poise.
  149. <Teruzi|Freeman> "How can I test you, if not with words?" Richard goes on. "Speak for yourself, Sirocco. Speak to us."

  161. <Teruzi|Freeman> The small gestures, they are usually the ones that matter the most.
  162. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Now, Seneschal, anything you would like to add before we continue?"||
  163. <Antioch|GM> Findlay gives Freeman a very 'if-you're-sure-about-this' look before allowing the cell door to slide open.
  164. <Antioch|GM> "I won't prevent you from speaking of this with the Queen," Findlay says, still clearly uncomfortable with Sirocco's terminology, "but I will suggest you not raise the subject with her. It would provoke her displeasure, and she's not particularly forgiving."
  165. <Antioch|GM> Sirocco hesitates before stepping out, expression turning graver, as if the idea hadn't occurred to him until now. ||
  166. <Teruzi|Freeman> "The Queen sure knows how to pick them." Richard says neutrally, he sips his tea with ease. Either Sirocco would be gone, or he would pick up his spear (Or as it staff?) and join them again.||
  167. <Antioch|GM> Sirocco takes a seat, not electing to take his spear (definitely a spear, upon closer scrutiny -- it's got a two-part head, one with a wicked-looking barbed hook, another with a keen edge) before sitting with the two. ||
  168. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Do you think what you did was wrong, Sirocco?" Richard asks, in a conversional fashion. "Hm, no, perhaps it's more correct to ask, is there anything you would have done differently?"||
  169. <Antioch|GM> He considers this for a while.

  172. <Teruzi|Freeman> "In a way, this is my fault as well." Richard admits. "Generally, we could say everyone was a bit rash, no?"||
  173. <Antioch|GM> "At times we must be," Sirocco replies. "Hesitation is the seed of defeat."
  174. <Antioch|GM> ||
  175. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Overconfidence can be a slow and insidious killer." Richard counters. "The Hound was not supposed to leave the castle yet."
  176. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Her shortcomings were known."||
  177. <Antioch|GM> "No, I concede your point. This was not one of those times. My place is the battlefield." ||
  178. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard nods. "If I might be so forward, the abilities you showed in your little scuffle certainly show you'll be an extremely important asset in the field."
  179. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard eyes Findley, as if asking the Deputy Director to corroborate.||

  213. <Antioch|GM> "As you say. I will not sacrifice any soldiers for the sake of victory." ||
  214. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard gives Findley a look. "It seems your terms are agreeable."||
  215. <Antioch|GM> "Good," Findlay says, half sighing, half exhaling. ||

  218. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Alright. I don't think there's any need to keep Sirocco in here anymore, is there?" Richard asks, unsure. "Perhaps he can be shown to his quarters?"||
  219. <Antioch|GM> "You said you would counsel me on my allies. The Revenant Knight, the Sculptor. Tell me about them, those that might serve the same master," Sirocco says, not leaving. ||
  220. <Teruzi|Freeman> "In here? Goodness no." Richard says. "I have an office, Sirocco. You are slotted in for a session with me later today. Like I said before, we all have our duties. Mine include to other sessions."||
  221. <Teruzi|Freeman> ((*two))
  222. <Antioch|GM> "See to your work, then. I will speak with you at the appointed time."
  223. <Antioch|GM> Geez. The guy could just say 'appointment'. ||
  224. <Teruzi|Freeman> "I will see you soon enough, Sirocco. Seneschal? A word?" Richard asks as he stands up to leave.||
  225. <Antioch|GM> Sirocco takes his leave while Findlay stands, waiting for Sirocco to exit.
  226. <Antioch|GM> "Yeah, Doctor Freeman?" Finday replies, continuing to drain his flask. ||
  227. <Teruzi|Freeman> "I'll make a dossier regarding Sirocco and how to address him. I'm afraid you're going to be called seneschal a lot."||

  229. <Antioch|GM> "Great," he says, sighing. "Not going to try to fix whatever flavor of fucked-in-the-head he's got, just gonna keep feeding his delusions?" ||
  230. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard eyes Findley. "I don't think you can actually fix a cape that is that deep into their role."
  231. <Teruzi|Freeman> "That is as bad as it is good. He'll be loyal like no one else can. It'll take some minor adjustment."||
  232. <Antioch|GM> He shifts uncertainly.
  233. <Antioch|GM> "A psycho that follows Mendez's every order is still a psycho," he eventually says. ||
  234. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard makes a tut-tut gesture with his finger. "Quirky, yes."
  235. <Teruzi|Freeman> "Psycho, no. Wink sounds psychotic. Sirocco is quirky. And more importantly, on the right side of the law."
  236. <Antioch|GM> "In case you've forgotten, he ordered you to execute me." |~

  238. <Teruzi|Freeman> "And Cwn almost ripped him in half." Richard points out. "He could have killed us both if he so desired. He was just-"
  239. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard thinks on it for a moment. "Sort of a huff? Checking what's the balance of power?"||
  240. <Antioch|GM> "Either way. The fact that he's willing to bend any which way to Mendez's whim makes him just as dangerous, if not more, in my book."
  241. <Antioch|GM> He sighs. "Never mind that. You're here to analyze the capes. I'll speak with you later." ||
  242. <Teruzi|Freeman> Richard nods, as he finishes the tea in a hurry. Lots of work to do.||
