- Bestiary- First Expedition
- *Babline*
- > Description: Green spherical gel-like beings dawning short, admittedly adorable stalks leading from the upper portions of their heads.
- > Ecosystem: Deciduous Forest
- > Earthly Possessions: Earth Crystals & Acorns
- > Combat: Hurling slime from their small spherical body which can cause temporary confusion as well as a strange taste of lime on it's victims. While small and otherwise harmless they rely on speed and erratic movement to confuse and overwhelm their victims.
- *Grodon*
- > Description: Beast-like creatures with similarities close to a common wolf in the old worlds. Unlike any common wolf, these canine-like creatures escrete a toxic venom from their large and sharp fangs. These creatures seem to have an affection for rocky terrain-
- > Ecosystem: Mountain Terrain Near Ore Deposits
- > Earthly possessions: Venom, Acorns,
- > Combat: Acting only on animalistic instinct, the Grodon recklessly throw themselves at their adversaries.
- *Magpawn*
- > Description: Metallic blue and black small beings- shape similar to magnetic devices. Using their innate connection to magnetic waves, these small beings conjure electrical waves to attack predators- though they seem highly aggressive.
- > Exosystem: High Altitude like mountain ranges
- > Earthly Possessions: Lightning Crystal
- > Combat: Hurling bolts of lightning, the Magpawn act as a group to swarm and charge their enemies with deadly waves of electrical energy
- *Lupin*
- > Description: Gourde-like in shape, these blue tinted creatures seemingly share an evolutionary trail with avian creatures. Unfortunate for them I suppose in the design of their clumsy and tiny wings- These beings seem to share an ethereal tether to Wind mana.
- > Ecosystem: Grassy Plains- near deciduous trees
- > Earthly Possessions: Wind Crystal & Rabbit's Foot
- > Combat: Relying mostly on their Wind mana, these small balls of fury will send waves of powerful torrents in the direction of any whom invade their territory; and when all else fails Lupin's seem to rely on their weight- flinging themselves toward their targets. Whil simple enough for seasoned warriors- adept adventurers would be wise to steer clear!
- *Boars*
- > Description: Oddly enough, the boars on Esshar seem to have had no evolutionary quirks as an effect of their habitation in these magical lands- perhaps future studies will be able to discover how these effects begin and how drastically they transform-
- > Ecosystem: Whilst choosing to rely on pack tactics the Boars ecosystem varies
- > Earthly Possession: Hide & meat
- >Combat: Barely registering over a common cave rat in terms of combat ability or tact; the boar chooses to charge it's prey mindlessly, rearing it's sharp tusks in your direction. Ultimately the Boar serves no real threat-
- *Common Cave Rat*
- >Description; Perhaps with the aided benefit of the ethereal mana's on our plain has shifted the normal rats diet, causing them to grow twice their standard recorded-size. Though this doesn't say much at the end of the day. A rat is just a rat.
- > Ecosystem: Within darker areas of cavern systems
- > Earthly Possessions: N/A
- >Combat: While Common Cave Rats regularly use rush tactics with packs of four to five attackers, they cause little more than a nuisance.
- *Ancient Rusted Golem*
- > Description: Large and lumbering- the golem stands patiently waiting; though for whom or what I could not tell. It's thick layer of rust indicates to me a time where people of ancient times used these golems- possibly for labor, but more definite- for defense. Perhaps our nation could achieve the same level of technological power?
- > Ecosystem: Within the ruins spread throughout Esshar.
- > Earthly Possessions:
- > Combat: While slow and predictable, even in it;s decaying state there is no denying it's powerful presence and strength. Distance is key with this construct, but beware: the golem will at times use it's size to send layers of the earth itself flying towards it's combatant.
- *Swarmer*
- > Description: Purple spherical bodies carried by wide wings dawn a fanged mouth ready for any who dare invade their territory.
- > Ecosystem: Varies areas within ancient tombs.
- > Earthly Possession:
- > Combat: Fulfilling their namesakes, Swarmers rarely travel alone. At times it can be almost impossible for fledgling adventurers to even determine just how many had been swarming them. As such, it should be advised to immediately retreat from Swarmers if you begin to feel overwhelmed.
- *Rosasyn*
- > Description: It's bright green bulbous head sports two large yellow eye like orbs- though I'm not too sure of their optical function. It's wide and vibrant wings resemble that of royal gowns.
- > Ecosystem: Originally found within Sina's residence in the ancient ruins- as of now I cannot report on further locals.
- > Earthly Possessions:
- > Combat: While it's aura represents a lower level of ability Rosasyn is not a force to be undermined. As of writing this- it took all my combat prowess to survive- let alone defeat it. It's powerful ethereal presence, unlike other creatures in my studies; amplified as our battle progressed. It's natural attunement to nature allowed it's healing ability to flourish amidst our duel. Beware this creature at all cost young explorer-
- *Domice*
- > Description: Using their natural exhaust of heat, these spherical horned hover just a foot off the ground; bringing the small beings to standard human chest height while using their thin scarlet red tails for balance. Their natural attunement to fire mana has adverse effects of their physiology, that much is certain-
- > Ecosystem: Dry and arid terrain-like desserts.
- > Earthly Possessions: Fire Crystal
- > Combat: Growing bright red just before attacking; Domice emit large waves of heat at their attackers-, scorching the ground in a large rectangular formation. I cannot help but to draw an obvious comparison between the Domice and the Gromline- perhaps their genos dates back further than natural genotypes-
- *Wisp*
- > Description: Round floating orbs of life- had my illusion not abruptly forced it's destruction, I would have never assumed it to be of living organic matter. My curiosities grow by the day. I look forward to learning more about the wisps and their nature.
- > Ecosystem:
- >Earthly Possession:
- > Combat: Seemingly none.
- *Frospup*
- > Description: The shape of this creature resembles a nautical creatures, yet slips it's body around the ice as if a porpoise like mammal. Only later into development does the Frospup come to take on a more ideal form.
- > Ecosystem: Colder climates like those found in Therium.
- > Earthly Possessions: Water Crystal
- > Combat: Spewing water from it's large toothy jaw, this creature may look adorable but it's nature is purely chaotic and adolescent in nature. I have observed that the fin atop it's head radiates a strange ethereal presence whilst in battle. When a rather large Frospup chose to rush me I had a good look, noting the aura pushed from within this creature.
- *Froseal*
- > Description: After puberty a Frospups tail stretches and longates; an evolutionary trait meant to help guide Froseals through harsh blizzards. Next it's duel fins layer themselves in a hard metamagical substance similar to slime- forming two horns. It is reasonable to believe as with the development of the tail, that these newly formed horns work as stronger, more reliable tethers to the ethereal plane. Finally as the body reaches it's final stages for development, their bodies stretch with the growth of muscle mass. Most importantly is the raw blue hide that the skin creates as a reaction to the almost miraculous growth spurt.
- > Ecosystem: Colder climates like those found in Therium.
- > Earthly Possessions: Water Crystal
- > Combat: While Froseals don't develop their tactics much beyond their days as Frospups; due to their natural instincts- Froseals are moderately more powerful in water based magics.
- *Squisarme*
- > Description: These skeletal fiends drift through condensed sand and earthl their fish-like carnivorous anatomy bending and breaking half-hazardous to make its way to their next victims. While I had not been in the best place for observation- I theorize the Squisarme to possess little over 300 carnivorous teeth; designed by their very nature to rip bone from flesh.
- > Ecosystem: You will mostly find these beasts within cave systems though reports of Squisame in other rocky terrain is a familiar notion.
- > Earthly Possessions: Scale, Water Crystals, sludge
- > Combat: Squisarme don't possess what any sentient being would call 'tactical edge'. Instead, these rabid creatures throw caution to the wind- relentlessly gnashing out at their victims. If you intend on exploring any caves soon- or simply find yourself in the grave misfortune of these evil critters vicinity, I recommend watching for it's extremely dangerous water blast; a combination of earth and water magics. Mixing particles of raw earth into a high pressure stream of water. The earth material is stored within a secondary stomach inside the Squisarme.
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This marks the end of my first research expedition. Our next step is to analyze the data presented and finalize a genos/typography template for each creature detailed above;separating them each into element, evolutionary type, and shared characteristics. With that marker in place, future studies into these beings we inhabit the same realm as-
- *Disclaimer: My research was halted as creatures beyond approach came into my view. Without the means of observing these creatures in action, as well as in habitat- we cannot draw any finite conclusions.
- Perhaps in the future a scientific crusade with other like-minded researchers may be needed.
- **Some may have noted the lack of demonology research. Reasoning behind this falls to our nation's strict laws as they apply to not only demons but witchcraft that surrounds it. Perhaps when my Institute of Mathematics and Science is established- until than there is much research to be done! Look forward to the updated reports from Macha Bass.
