  1. ED students working on design for "Perfect IITian girl"
  2.
  3. Students from the Department of Engineering Design (ED) are working on a feasible solution to make the "perfect IITian girl"
  4. The project is part of the "Human Factors and Aesthetics in Design" course, undertaken by third year students. Upon completion, it would solve a lot of problems faced by IITians.
  5. Inspiration for the project was drawn from Mary Shelley's novel : Frankenstein. "I was looking at my professor and was reminded of a monster, which made me think about Frankenstein. That gave me an idea to make the "Perfect IITian girl", said the project leader.
  6.
  7. In collaboration with several professors, they began work on the project.
  8. The project is about to complete it's data collection stage. Last week, several students visited Stella Maris college (with the pretext of attending a TEDx talk) for collecting various data points.
  9. "We need lots of data points to work with, in order to come up with an optimum design for the girl. We have also sent people to neighboring colleges like NIFT, Anna University to speed up the data collection process", said one student.
  10. The EP core for Shaastra has also agreed to focus on girls college in Chennai and Bangalore to bring a larger footfall of girls to Shaastra.
  11.
  12. Meanwhile, work has already begun on a wireframe prototype for the girl. (ref. picture) The prototype is currently designed according to data points obtained during Saarang 2011. It will be modified as and when new data is collected. A mapping of certain body parts was done using pressure pads, to obtain material requirements. (ref. picture)
  13.
  14. A few other departments are also pitching in to help with the project. The Department of Mathematics is providing help with advanced differential calculations and mathematical modelling. "We love all kinds of curves", they say. The Physucks department is offering it's help in determining the gravitational force to attract males. "The force is directly proportional to the mass of the girl The Department of Biotechnology is also collaborating with ED students on the project. "We initially thought that girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. But working on this project has been a learning experience for us. We realized that there are other important ingredients such as jewelry, shoes etc.", said one student.
  15.
  16. The project is really ambitious and will take around a year to complete. After completion, the girl will have a remote with a play, pause and a mute button. It will have the ability to xerox notes automatically, and a dial to set the CGPA. An onboard GPS system is being planned, along with an Android app to track her movements, to make stalking easier.
  17.
  18. "A lot of people are depending on us to finish this. We hope we are able to perform well and cover all bases", said the project leader, trying not to refer to an innuendo.
