  11. Absolutely Perfect
  12.
  13. This is it. Today is the day. Akko's going to do it.
  14.
  15. She's been working super hard for weeks now, training together with Lotte and Sucy or Amanda and the others every single day after classes, rain or shine. And even after her friends would turn in for the evening, Akko would stay out until sunset practicing, oftentimes until one of the teachers had to scold her and call her in for supper.
  16.
  17. Luckily for Akko, it was never a certain white-haired witch on one of her patrols who caught her out almost until curfew. Akko didn't mind if she got yelled at by Professor Finneran or anyone else, but she absolutely definitely without-a-doubt could not let Diana catch her.
  18.
  19. It isn't that she's been training for anything weird or dangerous or crazy, but it's simply something she couldn't let Diana know about.
  20.
  21. Not until today. Because today is the perfect day for it.
  22.
  23. Finally, finally, Akko is going to bring Diana onto her very first broom ride.
  24.
  25. That is, the first ever broom ride flown by Kagari Atsuko herself.
  26.
  27. That's what she'd been practicing for so many weeks on end. Ever since Akko had gotten back the first bits of her innate magics, she'd been working hard to perfect her flying first before anything else.
  28.
  29. At first, she'd only managed to float a few inches off the ground, and everyone had praised and cheered for her. It's still a very precious moment in her life, and one she'll never forget.
  30.
  31. But for her first ever proper actual broom ride, she wants to spend that with one special witch in particular. Hence why she's been spending so much time practicing in secret with her other friends, and she'd made them all swear on their wands not to tell Diana what she was planning. Akko wants it to be a total surprise.
  32.
  33. "She'll be completely speechless!" Akko had told Lotte and Sucy one evening. "The last Diana will have seen, I'll just have hovered an inch off the ground. And then suddenly - bam! I'll be able to take her on a whole ride! She'll never see it coming!"
  34.
  35. And though flying a broom was something so commonplace and simple to Akko's teammates and other friends, they all understood just how big of a deal it was for Akko herself.
  36.
  37. So they'd all supported her in whatever ways they could throughout the weeks, either in flying alongside her and giving her tips, demonstrating techniques themselves for her to mimic, or even in keeping lookout in case Diana was headed their way so Akko could land and act nonchalant. It was all a big secretive operation for about a month or so, but now it's all finally come to fruition.
  38.
  39. Today is the day Akko is going to surprise Diana and show her just how far she's come.
  40.
  41. She wakes with thoughts of it in mind this morning, and can't stop thinking about it all day throughout classes, though she tries to act as normally as possible (for Akko, that is) around Diana so as not to give anything away. She still greets her with a hug and a kiss at every break time, but holds herself back from blurting out the surprise.
  42.
  43. It was going to be perfect - absolutely perfect.
  44.
  45. Akko believes this with all her heart until she can make it a reality.
  46.
  47. . . .
  48.
  49. As for Diana, she hasn't seen much of Akko outside of classes for a while now.
  50.
  51. Diana herself has taken on a few more patrols and responsibilities around Luna Nova, but at first she'd been fearful it might take away her free time which she'd wanted to use to be with Akko and the others more often. Thankfully, everyone had made time to gather on the weekends and whenever else they could, so Diana could continue getting closer to them.
  52.
  53. And Akko, in all her exuberance at finally having started to get her magics back, would zoom right up to Diana every morning to kiss and hug her, and then do it again at lunchtime before they'd all sit and eat together, and then again at suppertime whenever Akko wasn't tardy for that.
  54.
  55. She'd also sneak up behind Diana with a squeal of her name and pick her up in a hug and kiss her in the middle of the hallway for all to see, or she'd call out something sweetly embarrassing to her in the middle of a lecture whenever Diana answered a question or demonstrated a spell. Akko wasn't shy at all about letting every single witch and faery on campus know that they were girlfriends, and though it had always made Diana blush, it also had never ceased to make her heart flutter with the happiest of feelings.
  56.
  57. And there were even a few evenings when Diana was free of patrols and able to find Akko to study spells with her in the library. And as much as Diana loved it when Akko bragged about her loudly to the entire school, she also loved it when they could be alone together and hold hands, or kiss each other quietly in the lantern light.
  58.
  59. But with her patrols running later hours recently, Diana has gotten to spend less time alone with Akko. And sometimes when she is free, Akko is nowhere to be found.
  60.
  61. Diana can't help but start feeling a little anxious that her newfound relationship might be in jeopardy if she doesn't start to put in more of an effort to make time for it.
  62.
  63. On her lonely patrols walking through the halls, Diana finds herself missing Akko very much, the joyful squeezing of her hand, her exuberant kisses, her warm, affectionate hugs that feel closer to home than the Cavendish estate itself…
  64.
  65. Today in particular, Diana longs to see Akko more than ever. She finds herself all but melting when Akko comes scampering up to hug and kiss her in the morning, and then again at lunchtime. Diana wishes she could ask Akko to hold her for just a moment longer, but for the sake of formalities in a school environment, she has to refrain.
  66.
  67. And Akko is too caught up thinking about this evening's surprise to notice that Diana is wanting more from her.
  68.
  69. It's all an adorably earnest tragedy, but one that won't continue on for much longer.
  70.
  71. . . .
  72.
  73. Presently, it's Friday afternoon, so when the final class is dismissed, Akko lets out a loud cheer as she grabs Lotte and Sucy by the arms and races for the door.
  74.
  75. "It's the weekend!"
  76.
  77. "But we still have assignments!" Lotte reminds her.
  78.
  79. "Better than detention, for once," Sucy mutters.
  80.
  81. Akko only pauses when she catches Diana's eye. She tries to play it as cool as possible.
  82.
  83. "Oh, Diana!" Akko grins, releasing her teammates to run to her girlfriend instead.
  84.
  85. Diana perks up, secretly hoping for a hug, but Akko skips to a halt a few feet away from her, grinning.
  86.
  87. "You have patrol stuff again this afternoon, right?"
  88.
  89. Diana quickly composes herself, straightening up in a more dignified manner.
  90.
  91. "Yes, that's correct."
  92.
  93. "Okay. Then I'll do my homework and stuff now and I'll see you later! Bye-bye!" With this, Akko turns around and tears off out the door.
  94.
  95. Diana's shoulders slump just a little as Hannah and Barbara come up on either side of her.
  96.
  97. "What's gotten into Akko?"
  98.
  99. "She's like, more hyper than usual, right?"
  100.
  101. Hannah and Barbara had, of course, noticed Diana's dejection as of late. But the truth was, they'd known of Akko's secret flying practices and her plan to finally take Diana on a romantic sunset flight tonight, so they've kept quiet. Even when Diana looked so lonely it made them want to cry.
  102.
  103. Like now, for instance.
  104.
  105. As other witches file out of the room, Diana heaves a soft sigh.
  106.
  107. "Hannah, Barbara… Have I perhaps been too absorbed in my work as of late? Am I not making enough time for Akko…?"
  108.
  109. The other two witches tense up, sharing a panicked look.
  110.
  111. "H-Huh? No way!"
  112.
  113. "What are you talking about, Diana?"
  114.
  115. Diana's gaze drifts to the floor.
  116.
  117. "But… does it not almost seem as though she has been avoiding me…?"
  118.
  119. It's taken every ounce of their self-control thus far not to burst out and tell her the truth, but her teammates can't stand to see her like this, so they end up each shooting forward to take one of her hands each.
  120.
  121. "No way! Not at all!" Hannah cries. "Akko's just… being Akko!"
  122.
  123. "That's right!" Barbara agrees. "It's not you, Diana! S-So don't be sad, okay?"
  124.
  125. Diana looks back and forth between the two of them and sighs again.
  126.
  127. "I just feel… perhaps I should be doing more. After all, Akko has helped me so much, with so many things…"
  128.
  129. "It's okay!" Hannah insists. "You don't need to do anything, Diana!"
  130.
  131. "Nothing at all!" Barbara squeaks. "You're fine just as you are! Don't go worrying yourself!"
  132.
  133. And though Diana still feels a bit sad, the two of them have helped her to smile again.
  134.
  135. "Thank you, girls." Diana gives a tug on their hands, and they both lean in to sandwich her into a brief group hug. And of course, Diana loves Akko's hugs for certain reasons, but she loves Hannah's and Barbara's in entirely other ways. They make her feel much better, enough to proceed with her afternoon patrol, as is her duty.
  136.
  137. She helps out students in mild distress, or faeries who have run into a minor issue here and there. She looks forward to seeing Akko again at suppertime.
  138.
  139. But when the hour finally arrives and Diana enters the cafeteria, it seems every witch in Luna Nova is present there except for her girlfriend. As she approaches the table where Hannah, Barbara, Lotte and the others are seated, Diana asks them,
  140.
  141. "Is Akko here?"
  142.
  143. Amanda replies past a mouthful of pasta.
  144.
  145. "She already ate and took off."
  146.
  147. "I see…" Diana goes to retrieve some food for herself, then joins the others and eats quietly.
  148.
  149. And it's killing them all to see her so sad, but they keep their lips sealed as they'd promised Akko they would.
  150.
  151. When dinner is finally over, Amanda and the others casually take their leave for the night. But when Diana tries to head back to her room with Hannah and Barbara, they both stop her.
  152.
  153. "Aaah, actually, Diana-"
  154.
  155. "There was someone who needed you for something."
  156.
  157. Diana blinks. Though she's tired from the long day of classes, followed by her patrols, all on top of her jumbled feelings about Akko, she tries to remain professional.
  158.
  159. "Oh? Who might it be? I'll do what I can to help."
  160.
  161. The two witches share a bemused look.
  162.
  163. "Sorry! Can't tell you!"
  164.
  165. "Just wait for her right here, okay?"
  166.
  167. "Eh?"
  168.
  169. But before Diana can inquire any further, her teammates scamper off down the hallway, leaving her alone outside the cafeteria. Diana watches after them, puzzled, but then remembers her duties. She straightens herself up and proceeds to wait for the person who needs her assistance.
  170.
  171. And not a moment later, a very familiar voice calls out to her.
  172.
  173. "Diiii~aaa~naaaa~"
  174.
  175. Scampering footsteps approach from behind her, and Diana turns around to find Akko scurrying up to her, beaming brightly.
  176.
  177. For a second, Diana is confused. But the way Akko continues grinning at her with that playful sparkle in her eyes says it all. Diana feels a rush of warmth in her chest as she understands, giving a dip of her head.
  178.
  179. "I see. How may I assist you this evening, Kagari Atsuko-san?"
  180.
  181. "Heehee!" Akko bounds forward the rest of the way to her, grabbing Diana's hands and giving a tug to pull her into a long and much-needed hug.
  182.
  183. "For starters," Akko says. "Just this is good!"
  184.
  185. Diana doesn't even care if any straggling passerby might see them. She folds her arms sincerely around Akko's shoulders and leans into her.
  186.
  187. "I'm very glad to see you, Akko."
  188.
  189. Akko responds by tightening her hug on Diana as well.
  190.
  191. "It's the same for me, Diana!"
  192.
  193. The two witches stay close for a long moment, enjoying the warmth and closeness of each other. Akko is eager to bring Diana to her surprise, but not so eager that she intends to rush through this hug.
  194.
  195. Even after a few minutes, Diana still doesn't let her go, but Akko has no complaints. Only when she realizes the sun will be setting soon does Akko gently give Diana's back a tap.
  196.
  197. "Say, Diana? Did you fall asleep on me?"
  198.
  199. Diana had been so comfortable she'd gotten lost in the embrace. Now, she opens her eyes and hastily steps back.
  200.
  201. "M-My apologies."
  202.
  203. "It's okay! Were you recharging your batteries?"
  204.
  205. "Eh?"
  206.
  207. "You've been working extra lately, right? If you wanted a hug, you should've just asked!" Akko smiles at her sincerely.
  208.
  209. Diana glances down at the floor, holding the edges of her skirt.
  210.
  211. "Well… Akko, you were rather absent as of late. You seemed quite busy yourself."
  212.
  213. "Huh?!" Akko's jaw drops open wide. "I wasn't-! W-Well… actually I kinda was… b-but I was never so busy that I couldn't come and give you a hug, Diana! Did you really wanna ask me for one all this time?"
  214.
  215. Diana blushes.
  216.
  217. "It's not that important-"
  218.
  219. "Yes it is! Agh- I can't believe I got so focused on 'that' I didn't even notice." In order to make amends, Akko pulls Diana back in for another hug right away. "I'm sorry, Diana! I was busy! But it was for you!"
  220.
  221. "Eh…?" Diana isn't sure if she's more happy about the second hug, or confused about the revelation. Akko nods against her shoulder.
  222.
  223. "Yeah! Cuz, y'see, there's something I wanted to show you! Tonight!"
  224.
  225. "Tonight…?"
  226.
  227. "Yeah! It has to be tonight! So will you come with me?"
  228.
  229. Akko gives her a hopeful squeeze around her waist. Diana smiles, easing herself back just enough to cup Akko's cheeks and kiss her.
  230.
  231. "Of course I will, Akko."
  232.
  233. Akko starts to tremble with excitement, so much so that she picks Diana up off the floor a little bit.
  234.
  235. "Okay, okay! Are you ready? Follow me!" Taking her hand, Akko bounds off down the hallway, leading Diana alongside her. Akko heads for the exit that will lead them out to the courtyard. "It's the perfect time!" she says. "It'll be perfect!"
  236.
  237. Before Diana can ask what she's referring to, Akko pushes through the doors and pulls her outside into the warm air.
  238.
  239. It's certainly a beautiful evening. The sky is bursting with pinks and oranges and purples as the sun is on its way to set. The rays of its light are brightly golden, and the colors slant out across the trees surrounding the campus.
  240.
  241. Akko brings her to the middle of the courtyard before finally skidding to a halt and whirling around to face her. And then, before Diana can speak, Akko releases her hand and throws herself forward into a bow.
  242.
  243. "I'm sorry!"
  244.
  245. "…Eh? Akko?" Utterly perplexed, Diana begins to fret. "Please raise your head!"
  246.
  247. Akko does as much, but there's just a bit of guilt in her eyes.
  248.
  249. "I'm really sorry, Diana! I know I wasn't making a lot of time to see you these past few weeks! I'm sorry if it made you feel lonely! But the truth is, I was working on something I wanted to show you!"
  250.
  251. "Eh…?" All Diana can seem to do is mumble that response and blink in surprise. "You've been… working on something…?"
  252.
  253. Akko nods vigorously.
  254.
  255. "Yeah! Something I've been wanting to show you, but I needed it to be perfect! I hope you like it…"
  256.
  257. More than anything, Diana is relieved to discover she hadn't been slacking in begin a good girlfriend. Instead, Akko had been trying to be an even better one and surprise her with something. Diana steps forward to take Akko's hands once again.
  258.
  259. "Akko… whatever it is, I already love it. You've been working on it in secrecy in order to surprise me… and you waited for such a perfect evening…"
  260.
  261. Akko blushes at the praise, wiggling and fidgeting in place.
  262.
  263. "Really…?"
  264.
  265. "Of course." Diana brings Akko's hand to her lips and kisses it. "I know you work harder than anyone when you've set your mind on something, Akko. Please share it with me."
  266.
  267. Akko's face becomes pinker and pinker like the sky, and her smile becomes brighter as well. Hearing Diana say such kind and honest things makes her whole body tingle with delight.
  268.
  269. "Okay! Close your eyes, Diana!"
  270.
  271. Diana does as she's told. She feels Akko step in close to her, until her back is leaning slightly into Diana's chest.
  272.
  273. "Okay. Now grab onto me!"
  274.
  275. "Grab onto…?" Diana slowly raises her arms and loops them around Akko. She hears the chime of magic as something is summoned, but still keeps her eyes closed.
  276.
  277. "Okay…" Akko gulps in a deep breath, and Diana holds a little tighter to her, waiting, wondering what this could be. And then, Akko blurts out a cheerful command. "Tia Freyre!"
  278.
  279. "Eh-?"
  280.
  281. It's a command Diana has heard a million times before, from a million different witches, including herself.
  282.
  283. But never before in her life has she heard Kagari Atsuko give this command with such surefire certainty.
  284.
  285. The next thing she knows, there is a broom beneath her, and her shoes have parted from the ground. With a gasp, Diana opens her eyes to find the world falling steadily away beneath them as Akko and herself rise higher and higher up. Diana's heart swells with joy.
  286.
  287. "Akko…" She tightens her grip on Akko, curling her legs excitedly beneath herself like a child. "You're flying!"
  288.
  289. "Heehee! I am, aren't I? I'm flying!"
  290.
  291. Something so basic and commonplace for any other teenage witch would surely never cause such glee at this stage of their lives. But both of them know just how much it means to Akko in particular.
  292.
  293. To Akko, who had lost her magic, at the performance of her beloved idol Shiny Chariot, no less, her flight had always been something she'd longed for more than anything else.
  294.
  295. Diana had no idea she'd finally found it. The last she knew, Akko's achievement had been to rise a few inches off the ground. But now…
  296.
  297. Now she is truly and properly flying.
  298.
  299. Akko holds onto her broom and lifts them through the air, pausing once they've reached a good height. She then changes her trajectory and brings them forward, arching in a smooth, wide circle above Luna Nova's campus.
  300.
  301. From this height, they can see more of the sunset and all its beauty. Splashes of warm colors coat every inch of the sky and every cotton candy cloud, and the breeze is sweet and gentle.
  302.
  303. Diana is absolutely speechless, not only by the absolute beauty of the twilight, but most of all by Akko's newfound skill. Even with Diana's added weight, Akko is flying them as easily as if she'd been flying double for years. She can't believe she'd only just taught herself this within the past few weeks. It almost doesn't feel real.
  304.
  305. Diana can hardly even recall the last time she'd been a passenger; typically, she was always the one flying, because everyone knew she was excellent at it. But now, for the first time in however long, she is allowed to sit back and enjoy every second of this. The colors, the wind, the feeling of freedom and weightlessness…
  306.
  307. But most of all, she enjoys Akko's smile, and her giggles of delight.
  308.
  309. Akko is so proud of herself, so unspeakably happy that she was finally able to do this; to do what every witch can. To fly through the air on a wonderful summer evening without a care in the world.
  310.
  311. Diana doesn't speak for a while. She simply leans close and holds Akko tighter.
  312.
  313. Akko brings them around the school, keeping their pace steady and comfortable. There's none of the jerking nervousness of a first-time flier, or wobbling sensations from the broom as if it can't handle the two of them. It really is a perfect flight.
  314.
  315. Only when the sun begins to sink down does Diana realize she hasn't said much of anything since Akko had brought her up. She wants her to know how happy she is for her.
  316.
  317. So Diana hugs her a bit more to get her attention.
  318.
  319. "Akko…" She doesn't even know where to begin. "Akko… this is amazing. You're flying…"
  320.
  321. She still can't fathom it. She's wanted this for Akko as ardently as Akko had ever wanted it herself. To have been surprised with this tonight was the most wonderful present in the world for Diana.
  322.
  323. Akko is absolutely glowing, putting the sun to shame. She turns her head and leans back against Diana a little, smiling widely.
  324.
  325. "Finally… I'm finally flying, Diana!"
  326.
  327. Diana hugs her tenderly, trying to hold back tears.
  328.
  329. "Yes… And you're doing a splendid job, Akko. Truly, this is so amazing…"
  330.
  331. "Heehee, you don't have to go that far," Akko says modestly. "I know this is pretty basic."
  332.
  333. "No-" Diana shakes her head seriously. "Akko, flying is far from easy. There is so much to consider. And yet you've managed every single part of it. The altitude, the trajectory, the speed, the weather. Not to mention the time of evening so the scenery would be quite this lovely."
  334.
  335. Akko feels a flash of giddiness shoot through her at all of the sudden praise.
  336.
  337. "Aww, shucks, Diana. You're making me blush…"
  338.
  339. Diana presses closer against her back.
  340.
  341. "Then I shall continue," she decides. "Akko, you are truly amazing. You trained in secret all this time in order make this moment perfect. I know you must have worked so hard, every night for hours. And yet you'd still make time to see me when you could spare it. You must have trained yourself with such focus and determination in order to achieve this level of flight in such a brief amount of time."
  342.
  343. Akko's chest starts to flutter with more and more happiness from all of the things Diana is saying. It makes her blush harder, but she's certain she's never been happier in her whole entire life.
  344.
  345. "Diana…"
  346.
  347. "Please allow me to continue," Diana says. "Akko, not only did you train so passionately in order to perfect this skill, but you allowed me to be your first passenger. And you did so while putting deep consideration into everything. You ensured it was on a clear evening when the temperature was favorable, and you ensured it was a weekend. You ensured my schedule allowed for it, and you ensured it remained a surprise right until the end."
  348.
  349. Akko feels like she's starting to overheat. She had thought about all of those things, but to be hearing Diana point them all out and praise her for thinking it through so seriously, it's making her so happy she thinks her heart might combust.
  350.
  351. "Diana…"
  352.
  353. "Akko." Diana cups the side of Akko's head, having her tilt her face to the side so she may press a small kiss to her cheek. "You poured your heart into this. I know you did. You wanted me to experience this with you. You wanted your first proper flight to be with me… You wanted to share such a beautiful evening with me… Akko, you truly are such a wonderful witch…"
  354.
  355. Akko has been so filled to the brim with joy from all of Diana's praises that she almost doesn't notice when Diana starts to cry. Akko yelps.
  356.
  357. "D-Diana?!"
  358.
  359. "I'm all right," Diana chuckles, wiping her eyes. "Akko, I'm just… so very happy… Thank you…"
  360.
  361. Akko blurts out a huge sigh.
  362.
  363. "So… you like it…?"
  364.
  365. "Akko, I love it. I love everything about this. It's absolutely perfect." Diana cups her face and kisses her a second time. When she eases away, there are stars in Akko's eyes.
  366.
  367. "Diana… You're so pretty."
  368.
  369. It's Diana's turn to blush.
  370.
  371. "We aren't talking about me right now."
  372.
  373. Akko laughs.
  374.
  375. "Diana, you're so cute!"
  376.
  377. "Akko!"
  378.
  379. Akko is on cloud nine, overjoyed that her plan to practice and surprise Diana with this romantic flight had been a grand success. And after hearing Diana's extensive kind words, Akko is overflowing with a fuzzy warmth, to the point where she wants to share it. She eases Diana's arms away from her sides, and when Diana gives her a puzzled look, Akko grins.
  380.
  381. "Tia Navitte!"
  382.
  383. It's a spell that will essentially put a broom on auto-pilot. And it certainly isn't an easy one to pull off.
  384.
  385. Diana is about to voice even more of how impressed she is, but before she can, Akko transforms herself into a little yellow bird, flits behind her, and then reappears in her proper from behind Diana. Diana can hardly fathom what's just happened so quickly, but now she's at the front of the broom with Akko behind her.
  386.
  387. "Eh? A-Akko-? How did you-?"
  388.
  389. "Ahhh~" Akko throws her arms around Diana in a big, tight hug. "That's more like it!"
  390.
  391. "Eh? B-But that spell just now-"
  392.
  393. "I worked hard on that one, too!"
  394.
  395. "Akko, that is a very complicated spell-! For you to be able to-"
  396.
  397. "Wait, wait! You've already praised me to the moon and back, Diana! Let me spoil you, too!" Akko snuggles closer to her, crossing her arms over Diana's stomach and chest as the broom continues flying them on its own across the campus.
  398.
  399. Diana is overwhelmed by her shock that Akko could cast the spell, but the moment Akko's arms are around her, Diana remembers to breathe. Without having to worry about steering the broom, Diana gradually lets herself be pulled back against Akko, until she is resting comfortably with her head leaning back on her shoulder.
  400.
  401. Akko hugs her snugly, alternating between brushing their cheeks together and nuzzling into Diana's hair and neck. Diana can feel her face becoming pink.
  402.
  403. "Akko…"
  404.
  405. "Nope! You said all those nice things about me, so now I'm gonna spoil you too!"
  406.
  407. "Spoil…?"
  408.
  409. "Diana~" Akko hums a little playfully against her shoulder. "I didn't know you liked hugs so much. You should've told me sooner!"
  410.
  411. "I-I… don't particularly-"
  412.
  413. "Hm?" Akko chuckles. "Diana, do you feel that?"
  414.
  415. "Feel what?"
  416.
  417. Akko squeezes her a bit more.
  418.
  419. "Your heart's beating so fast! It's so happy right now! You really love hugs, don't you? Or is it only my hugs~?"
  420.
  421. "E-Eh?" But Diana can't deny that her heart has started to leap in giddy little spirals, bouncing around her chest in a merry dance. Akko chuckles and starts peppering kisses onto the side of her head.
  422.
  423. "Diana, you really are too cute!"
  424.
  425. "A-Akko…" Diana can't keep the mirthful smile off her face.
  426.
  427. As the broom continues to fly them at a leisurely pace, Diana eventually leans back fully into Akko's support. Akko hugs her as much as physically possibly, adjusting her arms now and then to spread her warmth.
  428.
  429. Diana is unspeakably happy, not just for Akko's affections, but for her incredible accomplishments as well.
  430.
  431. The moment the sun finally sets, Diana turns around and kisses her. Akko squeals softly against her lips and hugs her as tightly as she can.
  432.
  433. At last, they begin to descend. The wind floats through their hair until their shoes touch the grass once more. Akko teleports her broom with a flick of her wrist as Diana turns to face her fully.
  434.
  435. "Akko…" She shakes her head. Surely if she weren't so honestly impressed and proud, she'd be entirely speechless. "You did it. You flew… This is such an amazing achievement…"
  436.
  437. "It's because you never stopped believing in me," Akko smiles. "You and everyone else, and me too! We all kept believing, and now… I can fly!"
  438.
  439. Diana's blue eyes fill with joyous tears.
  440.
  441. "Yes. Well done, Akko."
  442.
  443. Diana kisses her again, pouring her affections and her joy into it. Akko whimpers happily against her, and the moment they part from the kiss, Akko's pulling her back into another big warm hug.
  444.
  445. "Thanks, Diana. I never would have made it here without you."
  446.
  447. Diana folds her arms around Akko and squeezes.
  448.
  449. "Nor would I. Thank you, Akko."
  450.
  451. "And from now on, no more secret training!" Akko vows. "Actually… if you're free sometimes, could you help me out too, Diana?"
  452.
  453. Diana can't reply quickly enough.
  454.
  455. "Of course. I will request reduced duties from the Headmistress."
  456.
  457. "What?!" Akko gasps. "Diana Cavendish requesting less work?!"
  458.
  459. Diana chuckles.
  460.
  461. "Well… I've found better ways to spend my time."
  462.
  463. Akko squeals, picks her up, twirls her around, then puts her down and kisses her again.
  464.
  465. At last, the two witches head back inside, hand in hand, and a truly perfect evening comes to a warm close behind them.
  466.
  467. --------
  468.
  469. A/N: I can tell it's not my best work, I'm a bit rusty writing these two, but gosh was it nice to do it again! I miss and love them so much! So happy to be doing another Dianakko Week! And to be collaborating with such a talented artist!
  470.
  471. I wish I could have written for all 7 days, but it was nice to at least do one of them!
