  1. The rise in terrorism has increased tremendously. Why now? Why has terrorism increased more in this generation than it has in any other generation? On February 14, 2018, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz allegedly killed at least 17 people at Florida High School. He showed his acts of Terrorism through disturbing material on social media and the shooting that he took place in. Cruz posted several selfies of him with weapons of all sorts, including the weapon that was used in the mass shooting, the AR-15 (Graham, Horton 2018). Another act of terrorism was by ISIS or also known as, “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria,” the terrorist group killed 74 children, and many more women in 2015 for offenses such as, practicing “magic” and refusing to fast during Ramadan (Zimmerman 2015). Ramadan is a religious practice that excludes eating and drinking during that time.
  2. The Florida High School shooting was a big deal this month. This is a form of, “Secular Terrorism,” Secular terrorism is a sense that leads to a sanctioning of almost limitless violence against a virtually open-ended category of targets. This means, the 19-year-old or better known as Nikolas Cruz, had no real true intentions or organization linked to his act of terrorism. It was a limitless act of killing that not only injured many people but killed 17 children in the process. According to telegraph.co.uk, there were problems with Cruz, and he wasn’t allowed to carry a backpack on him. He also had problems with the school when he was threatening students. Of course, the district did not take strict action like all school districts usually do and that, the Superintendent, “was not aware of any concerns raised about the student.” (Graham, Horton 2018).
  3. As I’ve stated previously, this is a form of Secular terrorism because there was no real motive towards the act that Cruz did. There was no meaning behind any of it, it was simply an act of terrorism and a human just wanting to kill somebody or hurt somebody. Supposedly, he did have mental problems and was an orphan. Maybe his act of Secular terrorism was simply him speaking for himself, and that was his way to deal with his personal problems.
  4. ISIS has been around for a while now and this is an obvious terrorist organization that cannot be stopped or penalized. The 74 children killed, and more women killed for practicing “magic” and refusing to fast during Ramadan is a clear case of Religious Terrorism. Religious Terrorism is very different from Secular Terrorism. Secular terrorist attempt to appeal to a constituency variously composted of actual and potential sympathizers, hence the fact that Secular terrorism is almost limitless violence against virtually open-ended category of targets as I’ve stated previously. Religious terrorists are activists and constituents that engage in, “total war.”
  5. The reason I can make this connection to this terrorist incident is because, “refusing to fast during Ramadan.” (Zimmerman 2015). Obviously, the ISIS group decided to show no mercy towards those who don’t obey their religion. This is a clear connection towards this terrorist motive and religious terrorism. This use of, “religious terrorism,” condones to a lot of violence and bloodshed, as seen in most ISIS videos, their victims are slaughtered on camera viewing them as subhuman or unworthy of living.
  6. In my honest opinion on total war, these specific acts of terrorism are something that cannot possibly be stopped without going against constitutional rights (gun laws) or simply going into total war with ISIS, as we’ve been doing for the past decade. We can’t fight against it or use any type of Criminal Justice against these types of terrorism without any kind of backlash, but generally speaking, it’s inevitable and will most likely not be stopped without some kind of heavy decision making by the government.
