  1. Hi Everyone,
  2.
  3. We have had a few queries about characters joining the Xavier School as students, and we've put some thought towards developing a process for characters to do that. We believe this should be something more than just being 'auto-joined' by the group leader or doing a single invitation scene, as the Xavier School is a secretive institution. Happy Harbor High School was created as a means to promote the idea of student superhero RP, and we recommend that everyone look there first before they look to put a character in the Xavier School.
  4.
  5. Xavier School itself only has a finite amount of room for students, and a faculty that is largely preoccupied with other business such as training and acting as members of the X-Men. To that end, it is important to us not to treat the Xavier School like any academy where students enrol. This is a select gathering learning to control and master their mutant abilities under the auspices of Professor Xavier and his most powerful students.
  6.
  7. If you do think your character belongs in the Xavier School and for whatever reason are not able to fit them into Happy Harbor, then we have created the below list of prerequisites required. We believe these are a fair method as they require students to give back to the community they are entering into and further tie themselves into the fabric of that sphere.

  9. PREREQUISITES:
  10.
  11. You will need to contact staff and pitch a plot (via a +request) regarding your entry into the Xavier School. This plot must be more than the bare minimum, including three substantial scenes that are designed to involve as many of the Xavier School +group members as want to be involved. We suggest the following structure, but you can feel free to play with it as much as you like.
  12.
  13. The Search: A scene where the character is discovered using Cerebro, and it is discussed how they will be approached. This should contain why the prospective student may be a danger and why Professor Xavier and the faculty would think it in their and the student's best interests to recruit them.
  14.
  15. The Problem: There should be some point of contention. Maybe the prospective student has been captured by an anti-mutant hate group, maybe they're on the run from the law, maybe they're stranded in the ruins of a wartorn city. Whatever it is, there should be a scene (preferably an +event scene) wherein the prospective student has some sort of difficulty in coming to the School and needs to be rescued or otherwise retrieved by the X-Men (or whichever group has been nominated to go and find the student).
  16.
  17. The Resolution: This is the Invitation Scene. The scene wherein Professor Xavier or the Faculty lay out to the prospective student what they're offering. Ultimately it's up to the prospective student whether they agree to join or not - maybe they'll have changed their mind!
  18.
  19. A substantial scene means we are not looking for three '6 poses and out' scenes. Additionally, the prospective player should be the one GMing these scenes. Meaning they run the NPCs, they plot them out. The onus is not on members of the Xavier +group to build a plot for a prospective member. They can if they choose to, but staff will favor plots devised and run by the prospective student's own player.
  20.
  21. We think this is the fairest method of bringing players into a rather exclusive setting, and allows them to effectively pay their dues by providing plot for the rest of the School. Obviously we would encourage players to continue with producing plot and RP hooks after they're a fully-fledged member.
  22.
  23. Thank you,
  24.
  25. Pratchett
