  1. Berdly & Susie: Tutoring

  4.
  5. >Berdly looks down at his wristwatch, sighing impatiently as he looks around, waiting for whoever it is that he was waiting for.
  6. >The only reason he was here and not obtaining his community service hours at the library was because Ms. Alphys asked if he could tutor one of the other students here, who were outright failing the class
  7. >as timid as she was, she did care deeply for her students
  8. >Berdly accepted, since it would make for some decent hours
  9. >And the library was filled to the brim with other students trying to study before the finals came around next week.
  10. >so here he was, studying his books and waiting for whoever the failing student was to show up already
  11. >'They were supposed to be here half an hour ago damn it.' He thought, looking over at the clock on the wall before going back to reading his trigonometry books
  12. >Berdly wondered who the student would be. He wouldn't be surprised if it were Kris, but he had been doing better on his tests, to his own surprise.
  13. >Or maybe it'd be Catty, she really didn't seem to give a damn about whatever happened here. Or about anything in general.
  14. >Maybe it'd even be Temmie but… she seemed to have been doing good with her work and stuff
  15. >...somehow.
  16. >As Berdly began to consider packing up and leaving, he heard heavy footsteps out in the hallway
  17. >They got closer and closer
  18. >until….
  19. >"..."
  20. >"..."
  21. >"..."
  22. >"...aaaaand hell no."
  23. >With that Susie turned quite gracefully on her heels and began to walk out of the classroom
  24. >"Hey, wait!"
  25. >Susie then stopped, turning around and raising an eyebrow, one of her piercing yellow eyes visible, much to Berdly's surprise
  26. >"Uh… look. I don't like this as much as you do. Believe me."
  27. >"Okay…?"
  28. >"But I already signed up for the hours. And you need the help, I guess. So let's just go through with this and get it over with."
  29. >Susie contemplated for a moment, before sighing harshly and throwing up her hands, "Ugh fine, fine! Whatever, let's just… do this I guess."
  30. >"Try not to get on my fucking nerves though, birdbrain."
  31. >Berdly just grunted and opened up one of his textbooks, looking over to Susie, "Did you bring yours?"
  32. >"Hell no. Way too heavy to carry in this thing."
  33. >'Why am I not surprised.' He thought to himself, sliding the textbook over to Susie as he stood up and went to the supply closet in the classroom, opening it and getting one for himself.
  34. >"What're you giving me yours for?"
  35. >"We're gonna both need it if I'm gonna be tutoring you, duh."
  36. >"Wait a sec, you actually want to tutor me?" She asked, scoffing a little and pointing at herself.
  37. >"She already signed us up for the hours. We both get them and I know you definitely could use them."
  38. >"Would it kill you to even try to pass one of these tests for once?"
  39. >Susie scoffed and rolled her eyes, sitting back on the chair with her arms crossed, "Only when I have you to tutor me."
  40. >Berdly sighed and looked up at Susie, "Do you actually want to try then?"
  41. >"Well I'm sitting here for a reason, aren't I? Let's just get this crap over with."
  42. >Susie took out her phone and tried to turn it on, then grunted
  43. >"Lucky my phone's battery is dead. Otherwise I'd just sit here and listen to something."
  44. >Berdly then adjusted his glasses and turned the pages on the textbook, then handed Susie a piece of paper while she pulled out a pencil and rested her head on one hand.
  45. >"So what part are you having trouble with?"
  46. >"All of it."
  47. >"...a… all of it?"
  48. >"Yeah. I don't understand jack shit of what this book's about."
  49. >Barely rubbed his beak and nodded, inhaling
  50. >"Okay fine. Fine. Let's start with the basics then. Does that sound good to you?"
  51. >"Yeah, sure. Whatever."
  52. >After a few minutes, Berdly and Susie had layered out their paper, with him already having picked out the questions they'd work on. Not a whole lot, but it sure didn't bring a smile on her face.
  53. >And shortly after, they got stuck on the very first problem.
  54. >"It's simple, can't you see that at all?"
  55. >"No, featherbrain, I really can't. How the hell does it just form into that damn equation? Even as I saw you write those damn steps down I couldn't understand how".
  56. >"Okay okay… just watch me do it again. And maybe pay less attention to the outside of the window?"
  57. >"I would if you'd explain in a more simple way, instead of spurting out the same shit Alphys says in class." She mused
  58. >"...I see. Okay. Well uh… hm. Alright, just look closely on this one. So-"
  59. >After several simplified explanations, Susie had begun to pay attention as he repeated the problem before her eyes, much to his own surprise
  60. >Eventually, after a few errors here and there that Berdly pointed out, Susie was eventually able to complete the first set of problems by following his problem solving strategy and tips, and his simple, but informative explanations.
  61. >"Holy shit… it's… shit, it really is easy!" She said to herself, gazing down at the paper with a small proud smile, her eyes visible
  62. >"See? Once you get it down, all the other problems in this section become similar and easier to follow and complete. Beside the occasional curveball, it's all super easy one you pay attention and write it down."
  63. >"Don't push your luck, featherbrain." She mused, but then smirked, "never thought I'd actually agree with ya though. Let alone have you… well."
  64. >Berdly chuckled and smiled smugly, "Why do you think I'm always at the top of the classes? I don't cheat on my tests either. I've seen you look over Jockington's tests-"
  65. >"I think you know a little too much…" She growled a little, squinting her eyes.
  66. >"Okay, okay! Let's ah… continue on the problems, shall we? Well… this section is already done. I think we got enough time to get through this one before it gets too late…"
  67. >As the hours went by, Susie began to grow more and more accustomed to the problems growing in difficulty, to the point where she was more or less keeping up with Berdly himself, and sure enough, they were done with yet another entire section of the textbook, just as the sun was beginning to set behind them.
  68. >"Guess that's it for now, huh? Just in time too…" Susie said, looking out the window, a setting sun over a purple orange sky graced with a few clouds.
  69. >"It seems so. It'll only be a matter of time before the janitors come in and kick us out." Berdly said as he put away the textbook and began to store his stuff in his backpack
  70. >"Yeah. Guess I'll be heading out now."
  71. >Susie began to walk out of the classroom, notes in hand as Berdly watched
  72. >She then paused at the doorway and turned around towards him.
  73. >"Hey, don't get a huge ego over this, but… thanks for, you know. Tutoring me with this stuff and all. I really appreciate it, you know?"
  74. >"Ah, well… don't mention it, I suppose. It's what I signed up for after all."
  75. >"...Maybe we can do the same thing tomorrow?" Berdly asked
  76. >Susie looked down at her notes for a moment, then back at Berdly
  77. >"I think I'd be down for that."
  78. >With a small wave, Susie walked out of Berdly's view, walking down the hall and towards the exit.
  79. >Berdly stared at the doorway for a moment, then returned to storing his stuff in his backpack, a smile on his face, as well as the faintest hint of a blush.
