- At its most basic level, Shimmer's initial interest in Aqua's Cartoon Heroes lined up with her general enjoyment of Euro-dance and dance-pop. Perhaps it's easy to forget now but she was once a peasant girl who was dazzled by toasters since they seemed like space age technology to her underexposed mind, but music with techno and electronica in it immediately caught her interest as it was a sound she basically had no idea could exist and so even the simple examples are still part of that lingering fascination with the unknown world she's always eager to go out and see. Couple that with the fact these electronic sounds are being played to an energetic beat perfect for dancing and the hyperactive skater girl is able to dance to the song that already captivated her before the words kick in.
- "What we do is what you wish to do" is the first repeated line of the song and definitely a meaningful one considering the song is about idealistic adventure. Shimmer has stuck with the Kobbers for so long because the life of a hero is appealing to her, she loves to go out and face incredible new things and help people. "We are the color symphony, We do the things you wanna see" continues with this and almost makes Shimmer a part of it due to her own adventuring heroics and explosive colory appearance despite that toning down to focused tones as she matures. She WAS a color symphony when we met her as her body was covered in every color she could manage to escape the browns, greens, and other drab natural colors of her unexciting dead end village life.
- There's also, throughout the song, the notion these are the "Cartoon" Heroes, as in everything will turn out right because this is fantasy where the heroes always win. Shimmer very much holds the inaccurate view that cartoons are all about happy endings and the heroes winning, and even though reality has thrown at her some incredibly heavy subjects like the Gran situation, Space Racism, Sarah struggling against death, and more and more, she holds that optimistic view that Shimmer, the hero, will win in the end and things will be good again. It was once naivety but is now more a strongly held belief as she continues to push against the wrongs of the world with her special super powers and doing what others just can't do.
- There's also the idea that "we're makin' it fun" with the fights and battles, and as we learned when Shimmer's lights went down, she has very much received some horrific scars and battle injuries from the fights she has participated in. She's been through some rough stuff but she remains optimistic and hopeful and more importantly, she continuously seeks out situations that require her assistance when there are many more like her who could fight in her stead. Shimmer enjoys this, sometimes because it is just fun and drama free biffing of someone like Bud Knight but she's also shown frustration before when something gets more complex like when we learn we're fighting the wrong guy. Being a Cartoon Hero is doing the right thing well and making things better than everyone, and she has a wonderful skillset for making things fun such as when she picked up the frog flashlight and started using that as a power channel even though she can make that same laser blast herself without any issue.
- Another aspect of the idealized Cartoon Heroes becomes a bit clearer if you just swap in the word Kobbers for it. These incredible band of people might as well have a Spider-Man and Superman doing these incredible feats of good, and one thing Shimmer actually struggled with early on was the idea that she might not truly be a Kobber despite being with the Kobber. "You think we're so mysterious, Don't take us all too serious" is almost the line of how her mindset changed as the Kobbers stopped being monolithic heroes from the stars who did everything she desired to do as she learned a Kobber can be anyone, including her, and she could be the kind of person who lasts forever.
- As for the line "What we do is what you just can't do", while that originally would have linked with that Kobber imposter syndrome situation, it's now just... kinda there. The song wasn't written for her after all! I can't extract magic from every line this pop band made! Such is the case with lines about the actual animation of heroes, but while you might be quick to assume the "Toon Town Party" is part of it as well, remember the final lines of the song: "There's still more to come, and everyone will be welcomed at the Toon Town Party!" That's basically Shimmer's mindset moving forward. When someone enters the bar she is eager to meet them and learn about them and help them get through that push to be a Kobber because she knows better than anyone that everyone is welcome in this extravagant group of individuals.
- When Shimmer hears this song it is not just a good beat but a walk through her history and a hopeful, mostly optimistic one. It can't hit with every line and some parts she still wouldn't really understand well but so much of her mind has been wrapped up in particular lyrics time and time again that it's become the theme to her life. She looked up to the incredible people from the stars, feared her ability to keep up, found that the world can still be full of cheer even against terrible foes, and now she is welcome at that toon town party where everyone can be happy after a year of battle that they no longer need to worry about. The season ended happily and Shimmer is with her fellow heroes celebrating the move to the next, this Super Friends style end to all the insanity just what happens to Cartoon Heroes like her.
