Mary (Taraji P. Henson) is a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.
The movie was more than I expected. The trailer didn't do it justice at all. There was a good balance of action and drama where Mary is involved in an organized crime situation but still has compassion. She struggled with that balance and the "good" in her wins in the end. Some movies are too filled with "shocking scenes" in terms of love scenes, nudity, exaggerated "blood and guts" and forget to balance that with a true human element that is both predictable and unpredictable.
Proud Mary in my opinion was very good. The movie was just too short. The Movie was filmed in a short period of time. 1hr and 30 minutes. We definitely needed a 2 hour movie. Taraji P. Henson is definitely one of the greatest Actresses in the world. An A list Actress. Movie Theaters money maker. Now that Proud Mary is on Starz see more postings of people loving this movie. A lot less negativity. Taraji is more talented than the movie .
Henson clearly has the swagger, charm, and ferocity to make one hell of an action star. She deserves a movie that does her talents justice.
