  1. === PROFICIENCY VARIANT ===
  2.
  3. New Terminology: Rank
  4. - Weapon (each weapon, total of many; example: longsword, spear, hand crossbow, etc.)
  5. - Saving Throw (each saving throw, total of 6: Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha)
  6. - Skill (each skill and tool; example: Arcana, Blacksmith's tools, harp, etc.)
  7. - Spell (each spell; example: Eldritch Blast, Fireball, etc.), for DC or Spell Attack
  8.
  9. d20 Rolls modifications
  10. - Attack = 1d20 + Appropriate Ability + Weapon Rank
  11. - Saves = 1d20 + Appropriate Ability + Saving Throw Rank
  12. - Ability = 1d20 + Appropriate Ability + Skill Rank
  13.
  14. Proficiency Bonus
  15. - Maximum Rank. +2 (Level 1~4), +3 (Level 5~8), +4 (Level 9~12), +5 (Level 13~16)
  16. - Still used for non-spell Class Features' DC and Racial Features' DC (example: Battlemaster's DC)
  17.
  18. Gaining Rank
  19. + First time gaining Proficiency (on first level, on gaining through Feat, class features / multiclass) gains 1 Rank on that Proficiency.
  20. + Each level receives 3 points to be spent. Upgrading Rank on which you have Proficiency costs 1 point, otherwise costs 2 points.
  21. + Can only upgrade 1 Rank per level (you cannot increase your current Rank by two or more; you can only increase any by one).
  22.
  23.
  24.
  25. === CHARACTER CREATION AND LEVEL UP ===
  26.
  27. Character Creation
  28. 1. Determine Concept
  29. 2. Determine Race, Background, and Class. Grab Proficiencies and Class Features etc. Determine Feat (if possible).
  30. 3. Gain 1 Rank on each Proficiency (and Spell). If you have Martial Weapon Proficiency, then you have +1 Rank on all Martial Weapons. And so on.
  31. 4. Receive 3 points to spend. Upgrade Rank as you wish. 1 point = 1 Rank if Proficient, 2 point = 1 Rank if not Proficient. Max Rank is Proficiency Bonus.
  32. 5. Unspent points are wasted. You cannot 'safekeep' points.
  33.
  34. Character Level Up
  35. 1. Gain the Class Features etc.
  36. 2. Gain 1 Rank on each new Proficiency (and Spell).
  37. 3. Receive 3 points to spend. Upgrade Rank as you wish. 1 point = 1 Rank if Proficient, 2 point = 1 Rank if not Proficient, you may only increase 1 Rank on one place; no sudden jump from +1 Rank to +3 Rank. Max Rank is Proficiency Bonus.
  38. 4. Unspent points are wasted. You cannot 'safekeep' points.
  39.
  40. This way, any spell or skill or tools or saves that you are Proficient will always at least gain +1 Rank. On every 4th level, each character would have spent 12 points, spread into several Ranks. Assuming that most Class on basic 5E will give 2 Saves, 5 skills/tools, several spells or weapons or additional skills/tools (let us assume here is 5), then it will equal to 12, more or less. It will bring a slower progress on PC, but a more customized one.
  41.
  42.
  43.
  44. === CRAFTING MUNDANE ITEMS ===
  45.
  46. Crafting mundane items follows the rules at PHB, but there is one major difference: instead of progressing 5gp per day, you progress 5gp per Rank of Tools per day. So a person with +3 Rank on Smith tools would progress 15gp per day.
