I, Kamijou Touma, am a misfortunate person. You probably think that that's a rather childish thing to say. However, let me tell you the events that led up to today. It all started when I woke up late on a school morning. As I was racing out the door, a hungry sister staying with me stopped me to beg for food that I had neglected to give her.

After I finally got the girl's teeth out of my head, I ran as fast as I could to school. On my way there, I tripped over a step, bumped my head, knocked some eggs out of a passerby's hands, got accused of stealing someone's wallet, accidentally kicked a rock at a cleaning robot causing it to go berserk, and finally slammed into a door that was locked thinking that it was open. Yet, that was only the start.

Once I got into the classroom, Komoe-sensei scolded me for being ten minutes late. I thought I had produced a miracle to be only that late, but I was wrong. Feeling like I had lost a very important race that let down the entire class, I slowly walked to my seat. It was there I was greeted by the two voices of my peers, and my apparent friends, Aoogami Pierce and Tsuchimikado Motoharu. It wasn't even a friendly greeting, more of a tease.

It was them that teased me with lines like "Oh, you must've woken up late because you were up all night doing perverted things with some girl." I retaliated by telling Tsuchimikado, "It's a surprise you wake up at all with all the things you do with your sister." I think the Sis-Con Sergeant, as he was called, got what I was insinuating about him. It was here that he got riled up, and the three of us all began arguing a little too loudly. While it was all in fun for us, it was also in the middle of class.

Komoe-sensei had told us the day before that there would be a new experimental machine being tested here in Academy City. She called it a Virtual Reality System, or VRS for short. Apparently, espers would use the system to train themselves in a non-dangerous environment. It gave off the distinct impression that they were training for a war of some kind. Participation was voluntary. Well, for mostly everyone.

Tired of our antics, Komoe-sensei finally yelled at the three of us. We had finally pushed her last button, and she had had enough of our interruptions. "You three will participate in the VRS training this weekend, and then you will do a two-hundred page report on the experience to be turned in by Monday! You have no choice in this matter." And with those words, I lost my weekend.

So here I am, standing outside of the facility waiting for the other two of the three stooges to get here. That is how it all came up to this point. So let me ask you this: Am I, Kamijou Touma, truly a misfortunate person? After hanging up on a call from Aogami Pierce saying that he won't be coming, I took a deep and sigh and decided "Yes. Yes I am." Such Misfortune...

-Outside of the Facility-
Touma: Good grief, deciding not to show up for a reason like that.
-Tsuchimikado walks up to Touma-
Tsuchimikado: Yo, Kami-yan! I'm surprised our blue-haired friend isn't here yet.
Touma: He won't be coming. Aogami called and told me he wants to feel more of Komoe-sensei's wrath.
Tsuchimikado: I had a feeling that he wanted more of her anger. That perverted lolicon.
Touma: Says the guy who watches his sister run around in a maid outfit.
-Tsuchimikado jokingly punches Touma in the stomach, but enough to knock the air out of him-
Touma: GAH!
Tsuchimikado: Oops, my fist slipped. You forget that you're also staying under the same roof as the biggest libarary of forbbiden magical texts in the form of a young Sister. And yet, your room has one bed. Do you two always share a bed?
Touma: I sleep in the bathtub because of that bottomless pit of a girl!
Tsuchimikado: Oh Kami-yan, don't tell me you do that too! You dirty, dirty boy.
Touma: Enough of this stupid subject. Are you ready to go or not?
Tsuchimikado: Yes yes, let's get this over with. Maybe it'll actually do me some good.
Touma: If your ability develops more, you'll be able to use magic more often, won't you?
Tsuchimikado: In theory, yes. I would imagine that even as a level 5 Auto-Regenerator, I would still recieve physical pain from the act of casting magic. The only thing that would be different is that I would recover quicker.
Touma: So why don't you take this seriously?
Tsuchimikado: Because I don't think it's going to help all that much. Auto-regeneration isn't going to do a lot if I get unlucky and my heart explodes. Besides, I'd never get that far anyway.
Touma: Let's not talk about things like your heart exploding. We're being forced to go through with this anyway, so we might as well enjoy it.
-The two of them walk inside and see a large number of people-
Tsuchimikado: Speaking of the Sister, what did you do with her this weekend?
Touma: I sent her to stay at the Necessarius dorm with Orsola and Kanzaki. At least there she'll be fed. Maybe if I'm lucky she'll stay there for a week and let me have some peace and quiet.
Tsuchimikado: Oh but then you'll come home and find nothing but an empty dorm. Poor Kami-yan will be all alone!
Touma: Knock it of-
-Misaka Mikoto passes by-
Touma: B-Biri-biri...
Misaka: *crackle* How long are you going to keep calling me that!
Touma:  M-Misaka-san! Are you here as a volunteer to try out this thing?
Misaka: Hmph, That's more like it. And no, I'm not a "volunteer". I've been practically forced to participate as a sort of Poster Girl for the VRS. They think if a well known level 5 like me supports the system, then people will lose their nervousness and maybe even become excited to use it.
Touma: Oh, uh, I see. You don't sound particularly happy about that.
Misaka: It's stupid. I'm going to be stuck in this stupid machine all weekend to train. I don't need a stupid machine to train me, and I'm already strong enough as it is!
Touma: Of course, ahaha...
Misaka: Oh, before I forget, have you seen Kuroko around?
Touma: Shirai-san? No, can't say I have.
Misaka: That idiot. She was supposed to meet me here after she finished her paperwork over at the Judgement office. I haven't been able to reach her cell phone.
Touma: Did you call their office?
Misaka: Of course I did! Uiharu told me she had already left.
Touma: Maybe she's already h-
-Kuroko teleports in and drop kicks Touma in the head-
Tsuchimikado: Ten points to the young lady with the pigtails!
Touma: I...found...Shirai-san...
Tsuchimikado: TKO!
Kuroko: I'm sorry I'm late, Onee-sama.
Misaka: W-what are you doing, you idiot! That looked like it would have hurt!
Kuroko: No worries, Onee-sama. Gorillas like him are built hard as a rock.
Misaka: That's still no reason to kick him...
-Kuroko turns around-
Kuroko: I can't believe she cares about that giant gorilla. Why is it that this pervert of a man catches my Onee-sama's attention? I just can't understand! This almost rips my heart in two! My dearest Onee-sama thinks that I'm the villain in this horrendous plot! Oh Onee-sama, why!?
Misaka: KUROKO!
-Misaka zaps Kuroko with her lightning, also accidentally zapping Touma as well-
Misaka: Come on! We're going to go get ready!
Kuroko: Y-yes Onee-sama...
Misaka: And where's your phone?
Kuroko: You fried it last night, Onee-sama...
Misaka: Dammit. Alright, let's just go.
-Misaka drags the charred Kuroko off-
Tsuchimikado: Punished like the dog you are, Kami-yan.
Touma: S-such misfortune...

-About an hour later, Touma and Tsuchimikado are in pods next to each other-
Scientist: The VRS Training is about to begin. Remember that all sensations of pain are just that. No real harm will come to you.
Tsuchimikado: See you on the other side, Kami-yan.
Touma: Right.
Scientist: Entering the system in 5... 4... 3... 2...
-Screen goes black-
Scientist: 1...
-Touma is floating in the empty blackness-
Touma: My head is killing me. Where am I? Why do I feel like I'm falling?
-Touma looks down and sees the ground quickly coming closer-
Touma: I AM falling!
-Touma lands on his feet but feels no pain-
Touma: What? That's it? What happened to the sensations of pain?
Tsuchimikado: It seems that the system disables pain until a few seconds after you arrive, that way it doesn't mistakenly give you the pain of landing from a tall height.
-Tsuchimikado walks up to Touma-
Tsuchimikado: Looks like you made it in all right.
Touma: Yeah, seems so.
Tsuchimikado: Well, right now we're in something of a town. We can explore it and take a look at the facilities and what they do. Otherwise, we might as well go and get this training started.
Touma: Yeah, let's get started.

-Player gains control, gets to move around a little bit until they reach the next area-

-Touma and Tsuchimikado see Mikoto and Kuroko-
Mikoto: Mmm! The crepes you can buy here taste pretty good! I can't believe they went to this much effort to recreate our senses!
Kuroko: Onee-sama, we're supposed to be training, not stuffing our faces with virtual food.
Mikoto: It's fine, isn't it? It's what I would have been doing today anyway. Ah. It's that guy.
Touma: Ah. It's Misaka-san. And Shirai-san.
-Touma and Tsuchimikado walk up to them. Touma trips and accidently knocks Mikoto's crepe out of her hand and onto the floor-
Touma: A-ah, I'm sorry Misaka-san! Are you alri-... Um, Misaka...-san?
Mikoto: Oi, Kuroko. Did I hear those scientists correctly? They said that you can fight all you want and your body outside won't get a scratch, right?
Kuroko: Of course, Onee-sama~, it's only a simulation of pain. There'd be no point to this thing otherwise.
Mikoto: I see... *crackle*
Touma: *gulp* Misaka-san, Why are you looking at me with those dangerous eyes?
Mikoto: I've given up defeating you on my own but if it's two against one there's no way you can win! Kuroko!
Kuroko: Right here, Onee-sama~.
Touma: Two against one? Wait...
-Tsuchimikado is begining to run off-
Tsuchimikado: Sorry, Kami-yan! I'll leave you to your mistresses! I'll call you later!
-Tsuchimikado runs off, leaving Touma behind-
Touma: This isn't about defeating me at all, is it! You just want to beat me up! SUCH MISFORTUNE!!!!
