BACKGROUND -
Jihoon born in Korea and went to LA with his parent when he was two years old. He has a younger sister named Jina and they both have their own youtube channel called Jina&John since Jina was three years old (his mom was the producer/mastermind of the channel). Jihoon was called John by his friends as they always have difficulty on remembering the name 'Jihoon' (and John is more familiar to them) . Jihoon started to learn piano since he was 6 .He joined his school's music club and he got to learn to play drum, clarinet, violin and guitar. His parent realized that he could go further in music industry so they paid personal vocal tutor to teach him. Jihoon won 2nd place for district singing competition and 4th place for open singing competition.

BACKGROUND -
When he was 14, Jihoon's mom sent him to live with his uncle in Seoul and asked him to search for any company's audition in Seoul but Jihoon refused as he's korean skills weren't good at that time. It took him 1 year to speak korean fluently and he braved himself to go for auditions. He auditioned for  JYP, CUBE, STARSHIP and SM , and he passed for CUBE and SM but he got casted by Pledis first and had already become Pledis trainees even before he got the letters from Cube and SM. He got casted by Pledis staff because they heard him singing in a cheap noraebang.

TRIVIA
• he once went to SM Entertainment to support his friend's audition (without telling his friend-for surprise) and as he was searching for his friend, a staff dragged him into the audition room and the auditioners asked him to perform (because the staff thought he was the last one who came for audition) . He wanted to explain but he was scared so he sang One Call Away by Charlie Puth. After two weeks, he got a letter from SM telling him that he passed the audition but he refused to join SM because his friend didn't pass and he already a Pledis trainee. He kept what happened on that day as a secret from his friend. Actually on that day, his friend had already auditioned an hour earlier before he came.
