相传，很早以前，天上有十八个太阳，烈日炎炎如喷火，土地龟裂，河水枯干。二郎眼看人们在烈日下难以生存，怒火心中烧，抓起一座山就将其中一个太阳压住。当他一连压了几个之后，其他太阳纷纷逃命，二郎怕它们逃到别处继续为非作歹，一时性起，用扁担一下子担了两座山去撵太阳。当赶到大史村南地时，沙土灌在鞋里，行走不便。二郎就脱下鞋，将里面的沙土倒出来。据说史村南地现今的大沙堆就是二郎从鞋内倒出来的沙土，当二郎担起山来继续往前赶时，不料扁担楔儿折断了，溜担了。山掉下来，将地砸了两个坑。据说前郭雷和大史村的“二郎坑”就是当时二郎担山砸的。二郎将扁担收拾好后，继续担山上路撵太阳。追呀，追呀，二郎一直将十八个太阳压了十七个，剩下一个找不到了，他想：留下一个也做不了什么怪，算了吧，以后再说，后来才知道，那一个太阳原来藏在马齿苋的叶子下面幸存下来，以后太阳日照万物，一年四季将光辉洒向人间，再也不敢为非作歹了。正因为马齿苋救了太阳，所以世上万物都怕太阳晒，唯有马齿苋即使拔起来放在太阳下暴晒数日仍不死，就是这个缘故。

In an instant, he used a pole to carry two mountains to chase the suns. When he arrived at the South of Dashi Village, much sand and dirt was stuck in his shoes, making it inconvenient for him to walk. Erlang then took off his shoes, and poured out the sand and dirt. It is said that the large sand piles at the south of Dashi Village consisted of the sand that Erlang poured out of his shoes. Once Erlang began to keep on with his pursuit, the pole snapped and the mountains fell, causing two holes, creating the "Erlang pits" in Qiangguolei and Dashi Village. With that, Erlang packed up his pole, he kept on pursuing the suns. In his pursuit, Erlang smashed seventeen out of eighteen suns, and couldn't find the last one. He thought, "leaving one sun behind won't be that much of an issue, whatever, leave it for later." Later, he found out that the sun was hiding under the leaves of purslane and survived. From then on, the sun shone on all things, shining on the world all year round, and never dared to do evil again. It is because purslane saved the sun, that while all other things in the world are afraid of the sun, only purslane will not die even if it is pulled up and exposed to the sun for several days.
