You came to Equestria by choice.
It was a pretty strange occurrence, to put it mildly.
You had poured yourself over pony-related documents, absorbing every detail you could find.
Every episode, every website, every fanfic. You had learned almost as much pony lore as Twilight Sparkle.
And while you were reading a certain website, you found it.
A spell. To take you to Equestria.
You were skeptical at first.
Magic isn't real. Right?
Well then, it certainly couldn't hurt to try the spell. Right?
But here you were. In the bright, pastel world of Equestria.
It had worked. Somehow.
You had no regrets. There was nothing left for you on Earth.
You had no social life, a couple friends who were unworthy of the title, a shit job, and disappointed parents.
But now, in this fabulous world of magic, you could start over.
Now, everything would be better. Right?

With a loud bang and a bright flash, you had landed right before the throne in Canterlot Castle.
Princess Celestia's guards reacted immediately.
It had been pretty frightening for the princess and for you as well.
It had taken a while for you to communicate to the princess exactly what had happened.
Introducing yourself to royalty you already knew was strange.

You stood in Princess Celestia's throne room, surrounded by guards with spears leveled at you.
Princess Celestia eyed you over. "You... say your name is Anon?"
"Yes. I traveled here using a spell... I wasn't exactly expecting it to work, though."
"You are adept at magic?"
"No. Magic doesn't exist in my world. I'm not sure what happened."
"And yet you are here." Princess Celestia looked annoyed.
"It's confusing, I know. Maybe Twilight Sparkle can research it."
Princess Celestia became attentive. "You know of Twilight Sparkle?"
"Yeah! The adventures of the Elements of Harmony are a TV show where I'm from!"
"A... what?" Celestia's muzzle scrunched up in confusion.
"In my world, all this," you say, gesturing at the castle and the world around you, "is made up. Not real."
Celestia stood tall. "I assure you we are very much real. Now what is your business here?"
You wonder exactly what you should tell her. Should you share the pain you felt in your old life?
You decided to express your hope for the future.
"I attempted to come here because your world seems like a beautiful place to live in, full of vibrant color and wonderful people.
I came here because I wanted to live in a place full of love and tolerance."
Princess Celestia smiled for the first time during your visit as you continued: "I came here hoping to feel joy and acceptance and to give those same things back."
Princess Celestia visibly relaxed. "Well, Anon, if that proves to be true, then Equestria will be all the better from your presence.
"Guards, put down your weapons.
"Anon, I hereby welcome you as a citizen of Equestria. However, I do have some conditions."
You were not afraid, "What is it, Your Highness?"
"I wish you to transition into Equestrian life easily, but I also want to learn more about you.
"I will be pairing you up with my brightest student, Twilight Sparkle, and together you and I will share our knowledge of each other's realms.
"Your duty will be to write to me each week, similar to Twilight.
"However, you will write, in as much detail as possible, about your former life and the impact living here in Equestria has had on your character.
"Emphasis on the detail. I want to hear about everything important you've done -- the good AND the bad."
Princess Celestia looks at you critically.
It's clear that she isn't completely sure if you're up to the task.
You muster up your confidence, "I'll do my best, Your Highess."
"Good. A train will take you to Ponyville; Twilight will be waiting for you upon your arrival."
"Thank you, Your Highness."

Well. That went all right. You are able to relax on the train.
The internet communities you've spent so much time in would be incredibly jealous.
You think about how your new life will be, and the ponies that are about to meet you.
How will Twilight Sparkle react to being given a partner?
You don't quite have as much of a passion for learning as she does, and you can't use magic.
But you are the only human Equestria has ever seen.
Wait -- could there be other humans? Princess Celestia didn't mention either way, and how the heck did someone find out about that spell and then post it on the internet?
Maybe Twilight will have an answer.
You wonder about the other ponies. Surely you'll be treated to a party by Pinkie Pie.
Will you get to watch Rainbow Dash perform incredible aerial maneuvers?
Will you get to share a hot apple pie with Applejack?
Will Rarity squeel in delight at the challenge of making clothes for a species she hasn't encountered before?
Will Fluttershy even speak to you?

Suddenly you're not so relaxed.
