　　黄山，位于安徽省黄山市，地跨市内黟县、休宁县和黄山区、徽州区，面积1200平方公里。是长江流域与钱塘江流域的分水岭。山北青弋江入长江，山南新安江入钱塘江。黄山市因此也成为安徽省唯一位于钱塘江流域的城市，黄山地区也是安徽省唯一成建制的吴语片（徽州方言）地区。黄山为三山五岳中三山的之一。奇松、怪石、云海、温泉、冬雪素称黄山“五绝”，令海内外游人叹为观止。黄山82峰，或崔嵬雄浑，或峻峭秀丽，布局错落有致，天然巧成，并以天都峰、莲花峰、光明顶三大主峰为中心向三周铺展，跌落为深壑幽谷，隆起成峰峦峭壁。特别是玉屏楼，被称为“观松绝胜处”峰顶还有著名的玉屏卧佛，值得一去。
　　黄山历史悠久，远在六、七千年前，也就是公元前51世纪，我国母系氏族社 会的后期，人类就已经在这片美丽富饶的山脉劳动生息了。在距今三、四千年的殷商时期，这里就居住着一支叫山越的先民。山越乃百越中的一支。在春秋战国时期，这里先属吴，吴亡属越，越亡属楚。秦始皇统一六国之后，实行郡县制，这里为会稽郡属地。南朝时开始设置新安郡，郡府搬迁又始终未离开新安江上游，徽州古称新安，其源盖出于此。宋代徽宗宣和三年五月廿四日（公元1121年），歙州被诏改为徽州。关于徽州名称的起源，一说因其境内有徽岭、徽水、大徽村等，州则因地得名；另一说赵宋王朝是取“徽者、美善也”之意，炫耀他对这一地区的失而复得。此二说并存了八百多年，州名亦被历代沿用至今，清康熙六年（公元 1667年）建省的时候，就是摘取安庆、徽州二府首字作为省名。
黄山名称由来
　　黄山原名黟山。唐天宝六载（747），唐玄宗根据轩辕黄帝在这里采药炼丹得道升天的传说，改其名为黄山。
　　依此传说，唐玄宗赦改黟山为黄山。
地质地貌
　　黄山经历了漫长的造山运动和地壳抬升，以及冰川和自然风化作用，才形成其特有的峰林结构。黄山群峰林立，有七十二峰素有“三十六大峰，三十六小峰”之称，主峰莲花峰海拔高达1864米，与平旷的光明顶、险峻的最高峰天都峰一起，雄居在景区中心，周围还有77座千米以上的山峰，群峰叠翠，有机地组合成一幅有节奏旋律的、波澜壮阔、气势磅横的立体画面。
　　黄山山体主要由燕山期 花岗岩构成，垂直节理发育，侵蚀切割强烈，断裂和裂隙纵横交错，长期受水溶蚀，形成瑰丽多姿的花岗岩洞穴与孔道，使之重岭峡谷，关口处处，全山有岭30 处、岩22处、 7处、关2处。前山岩体节理稀疏，岩石多球状风化，山体浑厚壮观；后山岩体节理密集，多是垂直状风化，山体峻峭，形成了“前山雄伟，后山秀丽”的地貌特征。
　　黄山的第四纪冰川遗迹主要分布在前山的东南部淘宝，典型的冰川地貌有：苦竹溪、逍遥溪为冰川移动创蚀而成的“U”形谷；眉毛峰、鲫鱼背等处是两条 “V”形谷和刨蚀蚀残留的刃脊；天都峰顶是三面冰斗刨蚀遗留下来的角峰；百丈泉、人字瀑为冰川谷和冰川支谷相汇成的冰川悬谷；逍遥溪到汤口、乌泥关、黄狮垱等河床阶地中，分布着冰川搬运堆积的冰碛石；传为轩辕黄帝炼丹用的“丹井”、“药臼”，也是由冰川作用形成的冰臼。
