- == BASIC MECHANICS ==
- - Under default controls, player 1 is controlled with the arrow keys, and player 2 with WASD. Only player 1's keys can be used to navigate menus.
- - If one player dies, they will be revived with 2 hearts on the next floor (unless their max health is lower, in which case that will be used).
- == MUSIC ==
- - The soundtrack selected for player 1's character will be used.
- - Whether or not you can hear the shopkeeper singing is based on player 1's proximity to the shopkeeper.
- - Whether or not zone 3 is playing the hot or cold music is based on the center of the screen's proximity to the border.
- == CHARACTERS ==
- This is what mechanics each character contributes to co-op mode.
- Cadence:
- - The zone 4 boss will be Dead Ringer, immediately followed by the Necrodancer, in any game mode. (It is unknown what will happen if the second player is Melody)
- - Cadence is the only character that has a different base appearance between the two players. The secondary character's name is Choral.
- Melody:
- - Neither character can change weapons, since none will be available (except shrines, which the second player can use).
- - The zone 4 boss will be the Necrodancer, in any game mode. (It is unknown what will happen if the second player is Cadence.)
- Aria:
- - The zones will be run in reverse if you are running a multi-zone mode. Dance Pad Mode will use zone 4 as well.
- - Aria will die upon making an illegal action or missing a beat. The second player is NOT affected by this rule.
- - Neither character can change weapons, since none will be available.
- - The zone 1 boss will be the Golden Lute, in any game mode.
- Dorian:
- - Exits will always be visible while Dorian is alive.
- - The second player can stand in Dorian's way and allow him to move only one square even with the Boots of Leaping active; this will not damage Dorian.
- Eli:
- - Shop walls will never drop gold.
- - Neither character can change weapons, since none will be available.
- Monk:
- - Gold left on the dungeon floor will be collected when either player reaches the stairs.
- - The second player is NOT subject to the "do not pick up gold" rule.
- Dove:
- - Neither character can change weapons, since none will be available.
- - The second player can still kill enemies; this will cause Dove to cry but will have no adverse gameplay effects.
- - The exit will always be unlocked.
- - Bosses are skipped.
- - The end of the song will kill BOTH players. (This surprised me)
- Bolt:
- - The beats are at double speed for both players.
- Coda:
- - See Aria, Bolt, and Monk.
- Bard:
- - The beats are removed for both players.
- - Any time either player takes an action, one beat passes in the dungeon. This means all enemies move, bombs become one beat closer to exploding, and so on.
- - If both players' movement keys are pressed in PRECISELY the same frame, it will count as one beat for both actions. There is no leeway for this mechanic.
- - The song cannot end. It will loop if it reaches the end.
- - Aria or Coda will NOT be killed for being idle. An illegal action is still deadly.
- == ITEMS ==
- Items will only work when their holder uses them. For example:
- - A blood weapon will only get one kill closer to healing when the holder scores the killing hit.
- - The Ring of Gold will only collect all the gold on the floor when the holder moves.
- Some affect both players:
- - All items affecting visuals will affect the single visual that is shared by both players, as long as the holder is alive.
- - The Ring of Shadows' free shops effect holds for both players, as long as the holder is alive.
- == GLITCHES ==
- - If a player dies confused, they will revive on the next floor still confused indefinitely.
