About one and a half days later, you are escorted into the COURT TENT, a large tent set up in the middle of camp. It's not as glamorous as an Earth courthouse, or as bloody as an Alternian one, which is a letdown and a relief respectively.
The judge has a podium set up in the middle of the dirt floor, a Sylvi standing atop it. The defendant and her lawyer have a plastic folding table, as well as chairs, as does the prosecutor.
The jury is seated in twelve folding chairs off to the side.
...you're being let in quite a bit later than the original time. Apparently there were some issues, so the trial had to be delayed.
Seated in the jury are four rhinos, and eight sylvi. The prosecutor is also a Sylvi. Looks like they're trying to stack the tables against you.
Next to the prosecutor is a giant, bulky machine. Looks like the translation device they were talking about?
Johnny and Lavira, you sit down at your table. The prosecutor sits at his.
The judge reads the charges. Apparently Lavira is being called out for "disrupting the peace and engaging in unprovoked hostilities in time of war."
Also according to the judge, the sentence, if found guilty, is death by electric chair. The chair is sitting in the room, as if the judge has anticipated that it will be used.
The prosecutor gets up and gives his spiel about how Lavira is "an enemy to rhinokind, and to the peace-loving people of the sylvi." Generic stuff, really.
Then, they bring in the boarmen as witnesses. Keeping them in the cage, they bring them up to the front, where they ask them if they saw Lavira kill underlings and boarmen in the village.
...hey, wait, you didn't kill boarmen!
The boarmen in the cage say something.
The translation machine buzzes and whirs, before emitting a robotic "Yes, we saw her do that."

I stand up with a slam of my hand onto the table,
"Objection!"
Soro [DM]Today at 1:15 PM
The judge sighs, before shrugging.
"What is it?"
Eon [Johnny/G]Today at 1:17 PM
Johnny puts his hand on Lavira's shoulder, standing up and whispering to her, "really wanted to say that, but let me handle this okay,"

I nod my head,
"I intended as much from the start."
Eon [Johnny/G]Today at 1:19 PM
Johnny then speaks up, "Boarmen, I apologize for not knowing your names. But I would just like to confirm if what the machine just translated for you is true, please just nod for yes or shake for no."
Soro [DM]Today at 1:20 PM
They look at you with pleading eyes, but do not nod or shake their heads.

you decaptchalogue Geki, "This is a translation robot we also have, it was Built by Sylvi technicians I assure you of that. this is a test of reliability as for the translation to be correct they would be the same. now Geki, what did the boarmen just say?"

“NO, WE DID NOT WITNESS THAT.”
The judge looks troubled.
“Well, it appears one of your translation devices is faulty.”
“We have no way of figuring out which one is right, so...”

"False!" you say pointing at the judge.
Soro [DM]Today at 1:26 PM
"As the judge, I must follow the rul- oh, what is it this time?"

"a few days ago i spoke with these very same boarmen, i was only called in moments prior and had no knowledge that they would be used as witnesses in this trial and they told me they were not even aware of the village at all. So how would they have been witness to any of the events my client had done to begin with?"
you look to the Boarmen "Please, answer in the same method as before if it is true whether you witnessed anything."
Soro [DM]Today at 1:30 PM
They click and grunt again.
Again, Geki says "WE DID NOT WITNESS THAT"
The other machine says "WE DID WITNESS"

"answer without words, nods if you did, shake if you did not. do not let the translators decide what message you want to send here."

They refrain from nodding or shaking. They look scared.
...there's some commotion at the flap of the tent.
"Urgent news! Urgent news!"

you do not take your eyes off the boarmen, you're not letting them slip out of sight to be harmed.
Soro [DM]Today at 1:41 PM
You don't take your eyes off the boarmen. Good thing, too, because the judge moves for them, but stops when he sees you're looking.
Lavira, assuming you're looking at the tent flap, you see a Sylvi push their way through the crowd outside, holding a bloody piece of paper.
"Stop the trial! Stop the trial!"

"They aren't to be touched." you say to the judge seriously.
Soro [DM]Today at 1:43 PM
The judge nods, getting back to his podium.
The Sylvi with the paper starts yelling, to be heard over the commotion.
"VENTUS IS DEAD! STOP THE TRIAL!"
The judge looks dumbfounded.
Galayis [Lavira]Today at 1:45 PM
Not wasting any time, I demand,
"Where is he? Keep his body protected!"
Soro [DM]Today at 1:45 PM
The Sylvi quiets down.
"The body's in the office. It's not at risk, though, he wasn't assassinated."
"Suicide. He left a note."
Eon [Johnny/G]Today at 1:46 PM
"Then read it, and then check the blood on it is his." you say looking back to the messenger before going to the Boarmen cage.
Soro [DM]Today at 1:46 PM
The messenger nods and starts reading in a shaky voice.
"If you are reading this, I am dead, and the trial has ended nearly an hour ago, meaning the Page is dead as well."
...the trial started late. Or it would have been over.
"I am killing myself today for the disservice done to my honor, the judicial system, and to the Page. It was not a light decision to make, but the guilt rode too heavily on my heart to live with what I have done."
"In death, I hope to find forgiveness for my actions. I admit to creating a false translation device, the only tech behind it a voice recorder. I admit to bribing the judge, and the members of the jury."
The judge sinks down, hiding behind his podium.
"I look to the ones above, the one above all, to find forgiveness in my actions through death. Please know that what I have done, I have done for my people. Find peace in your lifetime, and don't give it away to war."

you walk up to the podium looking down on the judge.
"Let these boarmen go. Mr Judge." you then throw a knife into the false machine walking back to Lavira.

I float onto the table and speak for all in the tent to hear,
"Someone shall provide an explanation."
Soro [DM]Today at 1:53 PM
"A-an explanation for what?" the judge squeaks, while opening the cage. The boarmen slowly tiptoe out.

"An explanation for the unjust activity at the very foundation of this trial, and why this attempt at my life was made."

One of the jury stands up.

"oh trust me the attempt was clear the moment we walked in the room this was set up more like a guillotine than even the most fictious of trials"

"I believe I can explain that."
"After you made malicious contact with the boarmen and underlings, we were hit by a vicious attack on our far eastern flank. Underlings, for the most part."
"Mister Ventus believed that was caused by your activities. As much as it pained him, he did not trust you not to make the same mistake again after you were freed."
"As much of a staunch believer as he was in the good of Sylvikind, he was a bit of a... how do I put this? A xenophobe?"
"As thus, your misdeed proved himself right in his own mind, and he took action."

The boarmen in question are just kind of... awkwardly standing in the middle of the room.
"Dysnomia is as unfamiliar."
"Perhaps they're a leader of some sorts in their army? We have not been able to interpret what they're saying, so we know nothing of their names."

"Eris is a wretched being of chaos and discord, who brought ruin and destruction to the previous land I was brought to, humiliated me in combat, and turned the soldiers I commanded to defend said land against me, likely killing them after."
"If there was ever a true cause for the conflict on this land, it was her"

"They've been given no choice throughout history but to ally themselves with underlings capable of protecting them against those who would hunt them like game"

"This news is wonderful. We might be able to make progress, and strike at the heart of the issue."
"This trial business has been, altogether, a large waste of your time, so I hereby apologize for the misdeeds done by our former leader done unto you. As his personal assistant, next in the chain of command, I would like to offer you full amnesty and the position as next leader of the Sylvi/Rhino alliance."

I glance at Johnny with a glimmer in my eyes as I remember his influence and help, showing me a path of change and self-betterment I'd never have seen or considered on Alternia or by myself,
"I was once simply a tourney fighter, endlessly training and fighting solely for the glory, fame, and pleasure of ending those who would oppose me, unaware of better truths and ideals that could shape far greater societies than what I was part of. Bloodshed and conflict like that of my old home and what currently hangs over this land will serve only to bring ruin to all involved, which I have learned from those I've met and grown close to, and from the tragedies that have unfolded around those unfortunate enough to fall prey to the cycles of hatred and violence bred by this bloodshed."
"I will accept the position, and give my word that I shall strive to end Eris' machinations and this great conflict so that prosperity and a better world may be created for all."

"Maybe needs a shorter name," you chuckle.

"But, we cannot add Boarmen into the name yet. We will need to converse with their leader, and make a treaty."
"I can take care of that, if you two wished to rest. We'll meet at Arctus Point to rendezvous the armies, if you choose to remain. Ventus' notes said that was the location of a "Fifth Gate."

"If all goes well, perhaps eight hours? I consider myself a competent negotiator, and hopefully the boarmen will be eager to stop fighting."

"Be wary, though. Dysnomia might make attempts at corruption of them as she did with Geki. If that becomes the case, call me over and I shall break any corruption she inflicts," I say while offering up any contact information they might be able to use
