  4. Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
  5. fuckin link unfurler
  6. Title: "The Great Purge of YouTube Is Coming"
  7. it goes over the COPPA act and what that means to creators
  8. The effects of the act dont take effect until 2020 but Jewtube decided to push the update to comply in 2019
  9. the long and short is Youtube will ask you, as a creator, whether your content is targeting kids - aka "Kid Friendly" - on an entire channel or individual video basis, to comply with COPPA
  10. on the surface, fine. It's good to know who is and who isnt making kid-friendly content; but it gets worse
  11. but the details is where the warzone begins
  12. If you tell Youtube that no, your content isn't friendly to kids and either YT's algorithm or the FTC think otherwise, then you get slapped with a $43,500 fine per video, per infraction
  13.
  14. KossokeiToday at 10:36 PM
  15. erm
  16. what?
  17.
  18. ZerichoToday at 10:37 PM
  19. oh it gets worse from there
  20.
  21. KossokeiToday at 10:37 PM
  22. did you really mean "no youtube keep your kids away" "but content creator this looks like it's for kids here's a ticket"
  23. like you can be fined if youtube thinks your content is kid friendly despite you saying "no fuck off"?
  24. I can't be reading that right.
  25.
  26. ZerichoToday at 10:39 PM
  27. On the other side of the coin, should you tell YT that yes, this or that video or your entire channel are kid-friendly, then you lose:
  28. Comments
  29. Superchats
  30. Livechat during premiere videos or livestreams
  31. Personal-targeting ads
  32. Advertising in general
  33. Channel-branding watermarks
  34. Cant save videos to playlists(Got a series happening? well fuck you)
  35.
  36. KossokeiToday at 10:40 PM
  37. what.
  38. I mean
  39. some of those are decent
  40.
  41. ZerichoToday at 10:41 PM
  42. and to address your question; yes. If you tell YT your content isn't kid-friendly to continue being able to place ads and have all your features, but the FCC or YT's algorithm think otherwise, you can be held liable for kids watching your content even if it isnt meant for them, with no control over your target audience
  43. oh but we arent done yet

  49. this is the COPPA act
  50. Section B, entry 2 however, is the pertinent one
  51. "2. What are the penalties for violating the Rule?
  52. A court can hold operators who violate the Rule liable for civil penalties of up to $42,530 per violation. The amount of civil penalties a court assesses may turn on a number of factors, including the egregiousness of the violations, whether the operator has previously violated the Rule, the number of children involved, the amount and type of personal information collected, how the information was used, whether it was shared with third parties, and the size of the company. Information about the FTC’s COPPA enforcement actions, including the amounts of civil penalties obtained, can be found by clicking on the Case Highlights link in the FTC’s Business Center. "

  55. actually I take that back
  56. all of those are horrible
  57. I forgot losing ads means losing money
  58.
  59. ZerichoToday at 10:47 PM
  60. likewise, I dont know if this link works for you or not but, here is YT's updated terms of service, starting Dec 10th https://www.youtube.com/t/terms?preview=20191210#main
  61. Terms of Service
  62. - YouTube
  63. Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
  64. This, is the part that has EVERYONE pissed
  65.
  66. and yes you are reading that right. "Youtube may suspend or terminate your access, your GOOGLE ACCOUNT, or your Google account's access to all or part of the service[blah blah blah]"
  67.
  68. KossokeiToday at 10:58 PM
  69. welp
  70. rip a doodle doo
  71. I suspect all my favorite martial arts/marksman channels will get megafukt over this
  72. as they tend to shy away from cussing
  73.
  74. ZerichoToday at 10:59 PM
  75. oh its not just them who are in the crosshairs
  76. everybody who makes YT videos is in the crosshairs, because the suits think they can police what videos kids watch
  77. if it goes through as-is, some of the first channels to go are going to be the animation channels
  78. so like, no more Game Grumps Animated or Hazbin Hotel-like projects
  79. if you're a music channel, well shit kids like music; you're a target too
  80. stop-motion animators? Too much like Gumby; target
  81. Explosions and shiny displays? Kids like that shit too; target
  82. Car channel? Train channel? Boats? other cool powered vehicles? Well those are all-ages things so kids can watch those too; target, target, target
  83.
  84. KossokeiToday at 11:03 PM
  85. I meant to add onto that but this race started early kek
  86. anyways
  87.
  88. ZerichoToday at 11:03 PM
  89. its literally poised to take the entire website down
  90.
  91. KossokeiToday at 11:03 PM
  92. they tend to shy away from cussing, keep it family friendly so it can be educational
  93. like fencing, for example
  94. kenjutsu
  95. HEMA
  96. but
  97. those involve weapons
  98. and similar channels tend to cover things like crossbows, knives...
  99. furthermore
  100.
  101. ZerichoToday at 11:04 PM
  102. all cool shit to kids
  103.
  104. KossokeiToday at 11:04 PM
  105. kid friendly where?
  106. because the sight of a knife may mean nothing to an american viewer
  107. but an english viewer might be banned from seeing it
  108. not being facetious
  109. it's a very very silly way of putting it but that's the best I've got right now
  110.
  111. ZerichoToday at 11:08 PM
  112. oh are you ready for the kicker about that
  113. this is the cherry atop the flambe
  114. "How old is a kid? The age of a "kid" in the United States is defined as anyone under the age of 13. However, the age of a kid may be higher in other countries, so consider the factors described above as appropriate given how kid is defined in applicable laws in your country, and consult legal counsel if you have additional questions. "
  115. Don't know whether a kid in another country is gonna see your video? Well fuck you, better have a lawyer on hand
  116. and no I didnt pull that out of my ass: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9528076#general_audience
  117. Determining if your content is made for kids - YouTube Help
  118. Regardless of your location, we require you to tell us whether or not your videos are made for kids. We are making these changes according to an agreement with the US Federal Trade Commissi
  119. YT's whole gameplan is to shift the burden of curation onto creators under penalty of a whopping $42,350 per violation with no tools to restrict viewership via age - everybody fucking lies on that anyway - and your only recourse is to pay retainment on a lawyer and "seek legal guidance"
  120. not one fucking youtuber can afford to consult a lawyer about every video they upload, much less afford a litany of fines
  121. thats just a waste of time, energy and money on every facet of the process
  122. Im honestly expecting YT to join the Google Graveyard in the next few years, at the rate they're fucking it up
