  3. 2:32 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: So, I've had an idea lately and I've been working on it a lot in the recent days.
  4. 2:32 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: NATF2L :D
  5. 2:32 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: mmm hmm
  6. 2:32 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: oh?
  7. 2:33 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: is that what Jinn was hinting at?
  8. 2:33 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I don't know what he was hinting at, I haven't mentioned it to him that I know of
  9. 2:33 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: oh ok :)
  10. 2:33 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: well hit me!
  11. 2:34 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: The things I've been setting up are all prelim stuff, got configs pretty much finalized and I'm picking out a map pool as well as drafting rules
  12. 2:34 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea...
  13. 2:34 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Website should be going up in a week or two as well
  14. 2:34 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: badam boi
  15. 2:35 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: The other thing I'm setting up is that part of the rules require a plugin running on servers and the reason for it is that it'll handle matches and it'll also send the current score (like EG 5 coL 3) as well as a link to join the stv.
  16. 2:36 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: So I'll have a ticker on the site with all live match info
  17. 2:36 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: so you can run it on a team's personal server that way, but it still reports alla ESEA?
  18. 2:36 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Yeah
  19. 2:36 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: very awesome
  20. 2:36 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: got a good calender system setup?
  21. 2:37 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Working on it still. Just testing out some of the flashier stuff first and handling logistic stuff.
  22. 2:37 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I think initially I'm just going to build a site on a CMS but I'm going to work on porting it all to Django so that when I release my stats site they're all integrated.
  23. 2:38 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I talked to a couple invite players, bloodsire and yz50 like the idea. Jagaer said he'll stick with whatever makes coL happy lol
  24. 2:39 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: nice
  25. 2:39 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: hahah
  26. 2:40 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea, in some ways its gonna be tough to drag in some invite teams because of over scheduling. But on the other hand, the whole ESEA situation might shatter next year. If Cevo doesn't step it up, they also could get even more overshadowed by XPL and possibly NATF2L
  27. 2:40 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: are you gonna have division system?
  28. 2:40 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: (But you could attract a lot of Mid + low teams)
  29. 2:40 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Yeah, I'm going to take the division system that ETF2L uses, I find it works better than any of the currently used ones
  30. 2:41 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Yea totally
  31. 2:41 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: You should do Promotion + relegation definitely
  32. 2:41 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Definitely aimed at mid and low teams initially while it picks up
  33. 2:41 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: and try to include ways to encourage teams to stay together.
  34. 2:42 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: One of the rules I want to add, is that any staff have to be on a competing team. Make it a league by players for players.
  35. 2:43 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Hmm... yea... good idea... not totally enforcable.... Just for example, riding the bench is about all I got time to do. Does that mean I am playing, or not? Cuz thats not really a solid line.
  36. 2:44 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Bench works, just have to be on a team. That way everyone helping run the league has an idea of what players experience and can add better insight towards changes.
  37. 2:45 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: tru tru
  38. 2:45 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: then thats aight
  39. 2:46 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: euro format? 30 min maps?
  40. 2:46 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I think cevo rule format, 30 minute halves first to 5
  41. 2:46 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: you should consider Euro... I think a good argu
  42. 2:47 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: ment for it is, look at ColdFront games
  43. 2:47 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: 5-0 stomps are still over quick, but you can have these long drawn out hour long battles
  44. 2:47 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: While Euro format can lead to stall tactics, it also promotes action do to small time limit
  45. 2:47 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: The two 30 min half format allows for more comebacks than the Euro style imo.
  46. 2:48 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: tru
  47. 2:48 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Plus on an initial season it's probably best to use something familiar to the players and then change it up later.
  48. 2:49 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: heh, but sometimes its hard to change mid-stream
  49. 2:49 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I think that post season is going to work this way though I'll have x number of divisions and the top two divisions will play bo3 for each part of playoffs while the lower ones will be one game per part with only finals being bo3.
  50. 2:49 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: How are you gonna handle promotion-relegation and standing tables. NA style I guess?
  51. 2:50 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: was typing that before you sent yours..
  52. 2:50 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: You could do like, 8 team playoff, Top 3 teams (so LB finals and UB winners) are guaranteed promotion
  53. 2:50 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Yeah
  54. 2:51 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Relegation would be handled by Teams that broke up, then going upwards from the bottom
  55. 2:51 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Heres the other suggestion
  56. 2:51 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: you get to keep your division standing if you still have at least 3 members of your team from the previous season
  57. 2:51 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Otherwise you are placed in a division
  58. 2:52 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I like that suggestion, makes sticking together more worthwhile.
  59. 2:52 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea totally
  60. 2:52 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I was thinking of having the season be 10 or 12 weeks rather than 8 like cevo. Have more maps played so we don't get into the habit of playing the same maps.
  61. 2:52 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Don't want TF2 to be like CS where there's like 5 maps that are ever played.
  62. 2:53 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: I thought of that system tied to a one-time buy in fee... but its a good incentive regardless
  63. 2:53 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea that'd be cool.
  64. 2:53 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Here's my idea for bo3 seris
  65. 2:53 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Each team CHOOSES one map, while the tie-break map is chosen beforehand by the league
  66. 2:54 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Yeah I like that, I really hated TWL's method of 8 maps eliminated down to 3
  67. 2:54 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Could still see a lot of the standard maps, but I disagree with the Elimination method
  68. 2:54 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: could even do something like: League picked map first, Coin Flip or Melee round to d
  69. 2:54 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: ecide 2nd map
  70. 2:54 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: who chooses
  71. 2:55 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I think coin flip would work best since melee is affected by things like ping.
  72. 2:55 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: tru tru
  73. 2:55 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Ya, I was thinking coin flip
  74. 2:55 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I was thinking of maybe having the league choice be done randomly from the season's map pool
  75. 2:56 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: herm yea
  76. 2:56 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: random is good
  77. 2:56 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: teams might hate it a little bit that they can't really prepare for the random map, but that puts the strength on gnerally knowing whats up
  78. 2:56 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Then for the team choices have home team pick the server while away team gets first pick for their map
  79. 2:57 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea!
  80. 2:57 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Well they find out about the map before they play it but it's out of their control which map
  81. 2:57 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Yea, but when do they find out? when brackets are posted?
  82. 2:57 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Or right @ match time?
  83. 2:58 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I think when brackets are posted would be good.
  84. 2:58 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: It'd definitely be interesting to see. If the league pick is badlands or granary the teams would have to pick a different map knowing that if it ties they get a standard map
  85. 2:59 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: wait, you play League map last or first?
  86. 3:00 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I was thinking of having the league one be the tie breaker, so that it's out of the teams' control as to what map they play in case of a tie.
  87. 3:01 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yea.... It certainly is a psychological quandry over whether teams would practice obscure maps and pick them, or practice blands and granary and pick those... Most teams are strong on those maps, so it'd probably pay off to pick a weird map your team felt extremely comfortable on (Freight, or Yukon for example)
  88. 3:02 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: It'd be a nice way to push teams to move out of the badlands/granary comfort zone
  89. 3:02 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: A sign of a good team is how quickly they can adapt to play a different map.
  90. 3:02 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yup yup!
  91. 3:03 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: and it'd throw a big wrench in the plans of teams like Complexity, who sometimes struggle on off-maps, but crush the regulars
  92. 3:03 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: I know I wouldn't pick Blands playing against them
  93. 3:03 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: But you would pick something like obscure knowing you have a better time there than them.
  94. 3:03 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: yaya
  95. 3:05 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I talked to Hawkeye about this too, and he's involved with XPL which is a good thing for the community but having a league that's game specific makes sure the game is getting the attention it deserves unlike the recent ESEA issue.
  96. 3:05 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: hm yea true... could maybe line up Valve sponsorship too, alla ETF2L
  97. 3:06 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: Definitely possible, Valve is surprisingly helpful if you approach them. They know that communities keep their games alive.
  98. 3:07 AM - Vir! Jesus<CommFT>: I was also thinking of adding some interesting ladders in there too to keep players busy between seasons like a 1v1 king scout tourney or a highlander tourney for the more casual bunch
  99. 3:07 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: ya, Valve is freaking awesome
  100. 3:07 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: Snipe war?
  101. 3:08 AM - eXtine.Whale <CommFT>: ya highlander tourney would be ftw.
