  1. Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland
  2. Any% Treasure Hunt I Notes (Chicken spam)
  3. [Updated 24 May 2024]
  4.
  5. DOG HEART VALUES
  6. - 1 heart: 31-80
  7. - 2 heart: 81-129
  8. - 3 heart: 130-179
  9. - 4 heart: 180-219
  10. - 5 heart: 220+
  11.
  12. DOG MECHANICS
  13. - Each dog has a counter that starts at 0
  14. - Every time a dog appears on the current map, its respective counter gets +2 (up to once per day per dog)
  15. - If you fill the dog bowl, the last dog that you encountered gets +2 when you go to sleep (if you didn’t encounter either dog, the boost defaults to the floppy-eared/red one)
  16. - A dog can be picked up once its counter reaches 31 (> 30)
  17. - If a dog is accepted, its affection is set to the value of its respective counter
  18. - If a dog is declined, that dog becomes the “default” recipient of the +2 food boost for that day only, regardless of whether the other dog is encountered
  19.
  20. DOG SPAWNS
  21. - In a test of 100 spawns on the farm (entering and exiting the farmhouse), there were 20 red/floppy spawns, 8 blue/pointy spawns, and 72 no-spawns. This test was performed from 6:10am on Winter 10 on a glitched Fishy Story practice file; it's not clear if the results would have been different on a fresh Spring 2 file.
  22. - Because red/floppy is the default recipient of the daily +2 food boost, this spawn distribution is a good thing, but it means that any time you do encounter the blue dog, you will want to make sure you encounter the red dog before feeding and sleeping (probably entering and exiting the farmhouse until you see it).
  23. - If you get a red spawn or no spawn, then you can safely fill the bowl and sleep.
  24.
  25. GENERAL NOTES
  26. - You ideally don't want to obtain the dog until exactly Summer 20, so you don't have to worry about caring for the dog or messing with picking it up/whistling.
  27. - Since the red/floppy dog is always the default for the food boost as long as you don't encounter blue/pointy, then you pretty much only want to target the red one.
  28. - If all you did was fill the dog bowl everyday from Spring 2 to Summer 19, you'd still be short 34 affection (for 3 hearts). That means you'd have to have encountered the dog (red/floppy) at least 17 times in addition to the feeding.
  29. - Exiting the house just to feed is extra time, so ideally you would encounter the red dog enough times early on while feeding that you could stop feeding sooner rather than later.
  30. - Most likely what you should do is do a couple big forages early on (one when you buy the chicken egg).
  31. - Dogs actually seem to have preferred foods; there is no "default dog", it's just that the boost goes to whichever dog prefers the food that was placed. Or, it may matter which dog was encountered last, with the red dog starting as the "default", but certain foods will always go to one dog or the other, regardless of which was last encountered. For example, weeds always go to blue, and (green) Herbs always to red.
  32. - This could mean that you could "target" a certain dog more easily, without having to worry about making sure that it was the last encountered.
  33. - Some foods still seem to have a random element. For example, Very Berry defaults to red if fed right after exiting the house and sleeping, but goes to blue if the bowl was filled after first walking to town, then back to the farm, even though neither dog spawned.
  34. - Actually, the boost seems to go to the dog that was encountered first (possibly a preference involved if neither was encountered). But on top of that, if a dog is on the farm at the same time that you put food in the bowl, that is the dog that is prioritized. For example, if you see the red dog first, but return to the farm and blue is there when you fill the bowl, he will be prioritized.
  35. - There are obviously more intricacies to this than I thought, so for now I think it's best to favor Moondrops for food, which seem to always default to blue if no dog is encountered. This means that if you encounter red first, you may want to make sure you have gotten blue to spawn on the farm before filling the bowl. EDIT: Never mind, this doesn't seem to work LOL. I have no fucking idea.
  36.
  37. DOG FOOD PREFERENCES(?)
  38. - Red (floppy)
  39. >
  40. - Blue (pointy)
  41.
  42. -----------------------------------------------------
  43.
  44. - Goddess Questions: POSITIVE
  45. - Potential dog spawns:
  46. > Farm
  47. > Carpenter's area (near Kurt)
  48. > Lake (near entrance to Goddess spring)
  49. > Villa area
  50. - You will need a total of +570G from forageables to afford all the seeds and the egg (assuming you sell the chicken)
  51. - It's best to only feed the dog weeds and low-value (10G) forageables, including VBs, MDs, and (green) Herbs; save BBs and CBs to sell
  52. - In fact, just use weeds and MDs, if possible, and try and target the blue dog
  53. - Spring 2:
  54. > Forage for dog food and money
  55. > Sell at Ronald's and buy an egg
  56. > Incubate egg before sleeping
  57. - Fill the dog bowl everyday and make note of any farm spawns
  58. > Still no idea exactly how the bowl mechanics work, so noting the spawn is just to track the +2 encounter boosts, so you have a general idea of when you can obtain the dog
  59. > You'll want to pick up the dog by about Spring 25 to get 3 hearts in time for Summer 20
  60. - Hatch egg in the Spring dry season and leave chicken outside
  61. - Once you get the dog, bring it inside and pick up, whistle, and feed everyday
  62. - Summer 1:
  63. > Do chicken escape
  64. > Can consider doing Lyla first if you're worried about missing her
  65. > Spam Gina outside Ronald's (19)
  66. > Spam Lyla at her garden (20)
  67. > Spam Louis at the Carpenter's area (7)
  68. > Spam Parsley at the Carpenter's area or at the Lake, wherever he is (19)
  69. > Spam Woody at the Carpenter's area (20)
  70. > Spam Tim outside Ronald's (62)
  71. > Spam Martha outside the Villa (15)
  72. > Spam Gwen at the Carpenter's area when she walks outside (20)
  73. > Spam Bob at his pasture (12)
  74. > LEAVE THE CHICKEN AT BOB'S PASTURE!!!
  75. - Summer 2:
  76. > Trigger first Tim CS
  77. > Forage 5BB and another +320G of forageables (PCM is +20G)
  78. > Sell berries at Ronald's and sleep
  79. - Summer 3:
  80. > Trigger second Tim CS
  81. > Sell chicken at Bob's
  82. - Keep caring for the dog and raising its affection until Summer 20
  83. - If rain on Summer 20, you must reset
  84. - Summer 20:
  85. > Buy seeds at Lyla's (7 potato, 8 tomato, 6 corn, and 9 breadfruit)
  86. > Yes, you would rather do this shopping on the day of Tim's first CS, but I can't be bothered to route it properly right now
  87. > Walk to the Villa to trigger the Sacred Land
  88. > Plant+water crops
  89. > Head home and sleep until Summer 27 (let dog get sick)
  90. - Head to the Sacred Land and skip the cutscene, then:
  91. > Sleep 7 days and exit the house for the bloom cutscene
  92. > Sleep 2 days and exit the house for the potato cutscene
  93. > Sleep 1 day and go to the Carpenter's area to complete the ending
  94. > Skip animal death as needed
