1. Featured In:
2. The Megaman X series, the Megaman Zero series, and his silhouette was shown in Megaman 2: The Power Fighters.
3.
4. Name:
5. Zero
6.
7. Age:
8. At least 500.
9.
10. Gender:
11. Although being a reploid technically means he has no gender, he is modeled after a male human, and is built with ‘Male Programming’, which is exactly what it says on the tin, he was programmed to act like a male.
12.
13. Alignment:
14. Neutral Good
15.
16. Personality:
17. "I never cared about justice, and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero. I have always only fought for the people I believe in. I won't hesitate... If an enemy appears in front of me, I will destroy it!"
18.
19. For those who don’t know him that well, Zero seems to act cold and emotionless. However, this is not always the case, as seen with his friendship with Megaman X, and even love for Iris. He’s even shown compassion on occasion, like caring for Alouette and Ciel. Zero remains calm and collected in almost every occasion, and only shows anger or panic when under the most extreme circumstances.
20.
21. Although he too, like X, hopes for the eventual peace between reploids and humans, he is willing to fight both for the safety of all; such as when he fought Dr. Weil and Sigma. He even believes there is no difference between an evil and greedy human such as Weil and a Maverick reploid.
22.
23. He has shown to be strangely humble, despite all his power. Even going so far as to state that X was the true hero and better Maverick Hunter before sealing himself away, also saying that the world was safe in X’s hands.
24.
25. But above all, Zero is loyal to those he trusts (and it takes a lot for him to fully trust someone) and will never sway from his ideals, even if the ones he swore to protect turn against him.
26.
27. Powers:
28. Before the events of the Zero series, the titular reploid had many powers based off of the elements, but he lost these due to forsaking his original body. However, he has regained some of these via finding and copying magics that can be found throughout the universe.
29.
30. Ryuenjin: Zero makes an upward slash while jumping in the air. His beam sword, the Z-Saber, catches aflame, doing more damage and allowing him to melt ice and burn enemies. This is gained through the Fire element orb.
31.
32. Raijingeki: Zero thrusts forward with his blade, and it elongates while surging with electricity, giving him more reach and doing more damage than usual. This attack is gained through the Thunder element orb.
33.
34. Hyoretsuzan: While in the air, Zero points his Z-Saber downwards, and it transforms into a large icicle. Falling on an enemy will cause a large amount of damage, and could possibly even freeze the enemy. This move cannot be blocked. This move can be gotten through the Blizzard element orb.
35.
36. Shippuga:p The reploid dashes forward, and slashes with his laser weapon just at the end of his dash, allowing him to attack strongly, yet quickly. The attack is gained through the Time orb.
37.
38. Kuenzan: While in the air, Zero spins around while holding his Saber. This causes him to quickly become a whirling buzz-saw of death. However, this attack lasts only a little more than a second, because he has to exit the attack mid-air to land safely. This attack can be gained with the Aero orb.
39.
40. Kuenbu: This gives Zero the ability to double-jump, allowing him to reach new heights.
41.
42. Hienkyaku: Zero can use the small thrusters on the bottoms of his boots to dash while in the air. Both this and Kuenbu are gained with the Gravity orb.
43.
44. Rekkoha: Zero’s ultimate attack. He punches the ground, and lasers seemingly come from above, and circle around him briefly, doing high damage to anything they hit, and also protecting him from damage.

47.
48. Abilities:
49. Because of being a reploid, Zero has strength, speed, and stamina beyond that of humans. Combined with his literal centuries of experience in battle, and high skill with all his weapons, he is an incredibly powerful and dangerous opponent. Also, like most reploids, Zero is capable of preforming a dash using small jets on the bottom of his feet that will propel him forward quickly for a short distance, and is capable of a wall jump, somehow needing only one wall to keep hopping upwards.
50.

56.
57. Also, because of absorbing Biometal Z, Zero was able to create a disguise from its memories, and is able to take on the form of Girouette.

Although it was made to cut through the strongest metals, its power can be lowered so as not to cause permanent damage to biological beings, and instead deliver a strong shock or burn. The Z-Saber can also be charged to deliver more damage, but this takes time and can be used as an advantage for an opening to attack him. This is Zero’s preferred weapon, and what he is strongest with.
61.
62. Buster Shot Gun: This weapon is familiar in design to an average handgun. However, instead of bullets, it was modified to shoot plasma shots. Originally, it was picked up off of a dead Resistance member whom had died protecting Ciel. Zero had picked it up when he was awakened, as it was the first weapon he saw. He chose to keep the blaster, as he appears to have a strange attachment to it. As of the thread "Whisper of Relics", merging with MegaModel Z and accessing his new form also gave Zero a "Growth Ability" called Free Charge that allows his Buster Shot to be able to shoot charged shots without having to plug in the Z-Saber.
63.
64. Ki-Knuckle: Created for him by K1-R4, this upgrade allows Zero's fist to turn into a weapon itself. After going through various upgrades, Zero can now access a variety of moves wit the Ki-Knuckle. However, it has about a fifty-fifty chance to dangerously backfire, causing damage to Zero.
65.
66. Equipment:
67. None.
68.
69. Awareness:
70. Yes.
71.
72. History:
73. Zero was created by the late Dr. Albert Wily sometime in the early-21st century. Wily mostly kept the project hidden, but revealed it once to Bass (In Bass’ ending of Megaman 2: The Power Battles), calling it his “Greatest Masterpiece.” Learning from his past mistakes, including the accidental creation of Bassnium, and his construction of Bass and King, Wily constructed a new robot, far more advanced than anything he had ever built before with a power level far superior to that of Bass or Mega Man. Wily took the time to complete Zero, originally planning to use him against both Mega Man, and his insolent rebellious Bass. However, this never happened, and he was never utilized during the Wily Wars. Zero was routinely activated in a semi-conscious state during his construction, and Wily conversed with him, mirroring what Light himself did with X. Zero was aggressive and disobedient, and because of this Wily decided to seal him in a capsule. Decades later, in the early 22nd century, he was awakened by a group of Reploids prior to the first Megaman X game.
74.
75. When he was first activated, he awoke as a Maverick (by the definition of wanting to cause harm to all humans) and destroyed all intruders who had dared to enter Wily's lair (Which was long abandoned). Zero was later cornered by Maverick Hunter Elite, Gamma's Maverick Hunter unit inside an unknown facility, however at the cost of a total loss of said unit. Not wanting to get anymore comrades endangered by the powerful enigmatic Maverick, then-Hunter Commander Sigma himself challenged Zero in a one-on-one battle. Even though Zero eventually gained the upper hand during the battle, Sigma was able to defeat the red Maverick after the gem on Zero's head began to glow and a 'W' symbol appeared, apparently causing Zero great pain. Sigma punched this crystal, shattering it and defeating Zero (subsequently passing on the Maverick Virus to himself). He was then brought to Dr. Cain (The man who originally discovered Megaman X), who analyzed him. After that, Zero recovered from his battle with Sigma and was placed under Sigma's watch. Zero did not show any signs of Maverick behavior, or any memory at the entire incident, and was enlisted into the Maverick Hunters' 17th Elite Unit.
76.
77. As part of the 17th Elite Unit, Zero became an excellent Maverick Hunter and was soon ranked A-Class, the highest rank the Maverick Hunters had to offer at that point of time. It was during that time in which he met X for the first time who was also part of the 17th Unit, even though he was only ranked B-Class due to his hesitation on the battlefield. The two became friends and partners and worked together whenever they could. Zero soon became a somewhat mentor to X.
78.
79. Soon afterwards, a series of Mechaniloids going berserk occurred in Abel City, the city in which the Hunter Base at that point was located. During the course of the investigation, it was Zero who eventually uncovered the identity of the person responsible for the attacks, which was none other than Sigma himself. Zero realized this after analyzing various locations which were seemly connected to the attacks, and by looking over the bodies of defeated Reploids, which were all taken down with a single blow directed at a weak spot. There had been only a very few number of Reploids with such perfect skills, including Sigma. The defeated Reploids had taken was caused by a beam saber, and not by range-weapons, which ruled out the previously suspected Vile.
80.
81. Even though Zero managed to block Sigma's first attack, he was soon overwhelmed by Sigma and was used to pressure X into surrendering. To get Zero out of his way, he was struck by Sigma's beam saber and later abandoned while Sigma held X captive and launched a missile attack on Abel City. Sometime later, Zero regained conscious and found X all alone in the facility, heavily damaged. He then brought him back to the Hunter HQ.
82.
83. After Sigma's declaration of Reploid Independence on July 4th 21XX , dubbed "The Day of Ó", Zero, who at that point was the highest ranked member of the Hunter organization, became the new leader, and he and a repaired X fought together against Sigma's uprising rebellion. Zero saved X during a Maverick attack at the Central Highway from Vile. After that, the two split up, with X's task to slow down the Maverick activities in nearby areas while Zero himself was on recon duty at Sigma's fortress.
84.
85. They eventually met there and together invaded the fortress. Here, they encountered Vile for a second time. Zero was captured by Vile and imprisoned in a cage, the bars made of energy. When X was also defeated by Vile, Zero managed to break free and destroyed Vile's armor by jumping on its back and overloading his buster, which was a successful, yet fatal action. Afterwards, Zero handed his Buster Parts to X and encouraged him to continue to fight before ultimately dying in X's arms.
86.
87. After Sigma had been defeated, the Hunters tried to salvage whatever remained of Zero from the sunken fortress and found Zero's Control Chip (which serves as Zero's "brain" and consciousness) which had miraculously survived the destruction of the body. However, the Hunters were incapable of creating a new body for Zero because they were unable to analyze Zero's unique body structure.
88.
89. Six months later, a group of three Mavericks, calling themselves the "X-Hunters", contacted the Maverick Hunters and claimed to be in possession of all parts of Zero. The X-Hunters challenged X to a battle in order to win Zero's remains. It was Serges who constructed the parts and upgraded the body with the specs Zero was originally intended to have, including reinforced shoulder plates and Z-Saber. Other enhancements were the improved arm guards (in contrast to the original streamlined ones) and leg joints, with improved mid-air dash thrusters and gold-plated covers, along with thicker and bigger chest armor.
90.
91. X managed to miraculously retrieve the parts, but the X-Hunters managed to get them back with a sneak attack on the Hunter Base, as well as Zero's Control Chip. Zero would then be reconstructed by Sigma as a Maverick and was fought by X prior to his encounter with Sigma. After being defeated, Zero regained his consciousness and assisted in destroying the base, while X fought and defeated Sigma a second time.
92.
93. Zero only played a minor role during the Doppler incident. He and X defended the Maverick Hunter Base from Dr. Doppler's Maverick forces and saved X from the traitor Mac. Zero would here and there be of help for X as he could summon him for help on a mission, but the red Maverick Hunter also had to once again worry about leading the rest of the Hunters, using his Z-Buster and his Z-Saber.
94.
95. However, Zero did assist X all the way while trespassing Doppler's secret lab, and he even saved X from a spike room booby-trap with REX-2000. Zero later helped X during the second stage of Doppler's lab, fighting a Mosquito-like Mechaniloid which was destroyed by him, however the Mechaniloid managed to hit Zero in a last resort attack. The crash of the Mosquito damaged Zero's power generator which forced him to return to Hunter Base to have repairs done. Because this made him unavailable for the rest of the trip, he would then lend his Z-Saber to X.
96.
97. The next Maverick Uprising also marked the most tragic point in Zero’s life. Just before the Uprising, Zero encountered his creator within his dreams who ordered him to finally obey his orders and fulfill his destiny by destroying his nemesis. When he awakened of the nightmare (which is implied to have happened before), he was immediately dispatched to the Sky Lagoon colony which had been attacked by Mavericks. Repliforce was also confronted at the scene, claiming to assist the Hunters in evacuating the city, however both factions didn't trust each other for a moment and as a request for interrogation was declined, the Great Repliforce War broke out.
98.
99. When the Repliforce was labeled Maverick after the Sky Lagoon incident, both X and Zero were assigned different missions to gather information about Repliforce's coup and to cut off their support lines. Iris, who was by now Zero's girlfriend, assisted Zero on his missions as being his operator. However, Iris herself was part of Repliforce while her brother, Colonel, was Repliforce's second-in-command and therefore an imminent target for the Maverick Hunters. Iris didn't want the two of them to fight, ravished between her love for Zero and her love for her own brother. When the two of them battled in the Ceremony Hall of Repliforce's command center, it was Iris who stopped the two Reploids from terminating each other by begging her own brother to stop since Zero had previously saved her life after the Sky Lagoon had crashed down. Colonel, who had always regarded Zero as a friendly rival, backed off. Zero on the other side however stated that someone had to stop Repliforce at all costs, much to the grief of Iris. When Repliforce's coup began, Zero rushed to the space port to stop the ascension of the military troops to the newly constructed space station of Repliforce, Final Weapon.
100.
101. There, he battled Colonel, this time not holding anything back, just like his former friend with Zero being the victor of the fight, unfortunately killing Colonel. After that, he traveled to Final Weapon where he was, much to his surprise and horror, encountered by Iris, who was blinded by her grief of the loss of her brother and anger for Zero killing him. She had salvaged Colonel's Control Chip from his remains, fusing it with her own programming, thus resulting her body to transform into a massive Ride Armor like combat form which Zero was forced to battle. Even though he didn't mean to, Zero damaged the exterior power core of the structure, resulting in the destruction of the armor. He hurried to Iris' body, however, it was too late to save her. Whispering to Zero that she did all this because she wanted to live in a world for Reploids only together with him, she died in his arms and Zero, who was totally overthrown by the pain, began questioning his own reasons for fighting and the means of his own existence. Filled with anger, he confronted General, the leader of Repliforce, defeating him in battle. Upon the end of the fight, General realized that someone had taken over the control over Final Weapon, aiming it at Earth. Zero went to the control facility, only to find Sigma there, who revealed their pasts to him (back when Sigma was still a Maverick Hunter) After Zero had destroyed Sigma and the General had sacrificed his life to make the Final Weapon self-destruct, Zero escaped the destruction in a small spacecraft, thinking about what he had done. He hadn't been able to save anyone he cared about. He had killed his own friend Colonel, the General, and Repliforce with him, who in the end has only been manipulated by Sigma and the Mavericks. Questioning whether or not Reploids were destined to become Mavericks after all, he returned to Earth.
102.
103. Zero played a pivotal role in the events of the fifth Maverick Uprising. The space colony "Eurasia" was set to impact the Earth, recently being coated in a large outbreak of the Maverick virus, which would cause catastrophes of unimaginable proportions. In the meantime, X and Zero faced Sigma on Earth and easily defeated him, however, Sigma lost on purpose to spread the Sigma Virus around the world. Due to this, thousands of Maverick Hunters turned Maverick, yet, the fall of the colony posed to be a bigger threat. In order to stop the impact of the Eurasia, X and Zero both would gather several enhancement parts to power up an old energy cannon, known as "Enigma" (Enigma is German for mystery, an odd name for a gun) to destroy the colony before it could devastate the planet. While doing so, Zero noticed his strange reaction towards the Sigma Virus. While others, like X, got hurt by being surrounded by the virus, he himself actually felt energy growing inside himself, multiple infections of Sigma Virus anomalies even turned him invincible for brief period in time. Behind the scenes, Lifesaver informed Hunter General Signas about his concerns regarding Zero, but also that there might have been a chance to develop antibodies from his DNA to cure the Maverick/Sigma Virus. Yet, the accomplishment of the Enigma was rendered priority one.
104.
105. However, it didn't matter how much the cannon was powered up, a complete destruction of the Eurasia was impossible and only delayed the. As a last resort action, a Space Shuttle was readied to be launched and be directed right into the colony to have have it self-destruct right at the Eurasia's core. The shuttle would be operated by Zero (although there was initial resistance to this plan, Zero stated he was the only competent pilot left) and the operation succeeded, however debris would still rain down on Earth. Zero was later rescued by the Hunters but the peace only lasted for a short time as a new threat arose from the debris of Eurasia.
106.
107. A new virus, merged from the virus inside the colony and the Sigma Virus, called the "Zero Virus" by Alia, had begun to effect the impact area. The area flooded by the new virus was strangely deformed and was filled with Zero Virus anomalies that even resembled Zero. Also, strange Mavericks were found in the area, bosses that actually resembled earlier bosses such as the Shadow Devil and Rangda Bangda. The closer X and Zero got to the source of the virus, the higher Zero's viral infection level rose, yet not showing any Maverick behavior. Not wanting Zero to become a Maverick, X would fight his friend in order to have him being brought back to Hunter Base. Eventually, the battle would end in a draw (apparently, both used "Soul Body" on each other when the other thought they were winning). Upon seeing X and Zero both being completely exhausted after their battle, Sigma would reveal himself to destroy them. However, Zero managed to prevent this, protecting X and himself and forcing Sigma to retreat.
108.
109. After being repaired, both X and Zero faced Sigma, who would reveal to them that he let the colony fall on Earth solely to purify Zero's body with the virus to clear his mind and awaken his true self. Upon defeating his first form, Sigma would also reveal to Zero that he met an "Old Man" which knew a lot about Zero and his past, caring for him like a father and that it was that man's suggestion to flood Zero's body with the Virus to awaken him. After defeating his large battle body form, Sigma would then try to take X, who was rendered unconscious at some point in the battle, down with him. Zero would take most of the hit, majorly damaging him. The remains of Sigma attacked Zero and X one final time, impaling both of them in the chest area but was then completely destroyed by Zero who gained consciousness briefly and fired a charge shot at him from his buster.
110.
111. Exhausted and damaged from the battle, Zero finally realized that he was going to die and while in a state between life and death, he began recalling memories of his creator and his true purpose of existence. Yet, his memory circuits began to cease function. After recalling his memories of Iris and apologizing to her, Zero asked X to live for him, bringing peace to the world. After X was saved and repaired by the spirit of Thomas Light, X searched for Zero, but found nothing but his Z-Saber, which he kept in order to honor his fallen friend.
112.
113. In the events of Mega Man X6*, the mad scientist Gate began tampering with Zero's data. By studying a piece of Zero's body found in the debris of Eurasia, Gate created the new Nightmare Virus, a discolored clone of Zero (called "Zero Nightmare"), and the near-invulnerable Reploid, High Max. X, taking the assault on Zero's reputation personally, set out to investigate. Upon destroying the Zero Nightmare, X is reunited with his friend, mysteriously repaired** and carrying a brand new Z-Saber. Together, X and Zero set out to defeat Gate and the imperfectly resurrected Sigma.
114.
115. In later events, Zero is responsible for the bulk of the Maverick Hunter workload due to the fact that X has recently refused to battle for any reason, due to his doubts about the Hunters' violent, which is irritating Zero to no end. Zero captures a mysterious Reploid, Axl, who has just recently abandoned the vigilante group Red Alert. Axl assists Zero in stopping Red Alert's rampages, and eventually X rejoins them. While fighting alongside Axl, Zero learns from him at least some of the details about Red Alert's downfall. After the battles, Zero has nightmares of X attacking him, out of obsession for eliminating Mavericks, which foreshadows the events of Megaman Zero.
116.
117. Zero continues to work with X and Axl, who is now working with the Maverick Hunters, in dealing with new threats in Mega Man X8. One of the new navigators, a purple-haired girl named Layer, has shown a romantic interest in him; Zero has not returned the emotion however, simply keeping the relationship professional. Zero's memories of the virus incident from Mega Man X5 continue to haunt him, fueling his hatred towards Sigma. Upon confronting him, Sigma confirms that Zero is the original carrier of the Maverick Virus, which was transferred to Sigma prior to the first Maverick Uprising, when Sigma fought Zero when the red Reploid had been first released.
118.
119. At some unknown point, presumably years after the latest game in the Megaman X series, Zero realized that he carried the virus inside him and may even be continuing to spread it all over the world during his missions as a Hunter. Thinking that the world wouldn't be safe as long as he was still active, Zero admitted himself into a research institute in order to get rid of the virus within him that caused Reploids around him to go Maverick. At the same point, a project was started to analyze Zero as it had been revealed previously (during the Eurasia crisis to be exact), that Zero actually reacted positively to the Sigma Virus, and therefore might hold anti-bodies for the infection. Zero was sealed away and brought to a government lab. At some point, Zero's mind was extracted from the body, possibly for security measures in case something would go wrong while researching it.
120.
121. For an unknown amount of time, Zero's body was studied by government researchers. One of them, an unnamed female ancestor of Miss Ciel, managed to create the "Sigma Antibody Program", a Cyber-elf capable of reverting the devastated programming of infected Mavericks and therefore destroying the virus completely. This Cyber Elf was the Mother Elf, as it was the first of its kind.
122.
123. However, weapon researcher and DNA revival specialist Dr. Weil, who worked in the lab as well, planned a different way of dealing with the Mavericks, and was unsatisfied with the result. Stealing Zero's mindless body and the Mother Elf, Weil started a horrible conflict that would ultimately cost the lives of 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans. This four-year-long period of war was later dubbed the "Elf Wars".
124.
125. Weil, used the Mother Elf (now known as the Dark Elf) and copies of her (known as Baby Elves) to gain control over Reploids all over the planet, ordering them to destroy each other. At the same time, he worked on upgrading Zero's body, manufacturing an exterior armor around him which boosted the body's specs to its limits as well as granting him the ability to control all Reploids at the same time when combined with the Dark Elf. In order to deal with the body's lack of a "soul", he created and implanted a new consciousness for the body which was loyal to him: Omega.
126. When the Elf Wars were in their fourth and final year, Zero reappeared on the battlefield, given a copy of his old body (It is still unknown who created the body, though it is presumed to be Ciel's ancestor). Zero managed to infiltrate Weil's laboratory and steal the Dark Elf from Weil. He then ordered every Reploid in the Dark Elf's range to turn against Weil. At that point, Omega was released onto the battlefield, along with a few Mechaniloids, to defeat X and Zero and retrieve the Dark Elf. Zero, who by that time had realized Omega was using his original body, defeated him together with X by using the Final Strike, an extremely powerful combo attack, disabling the massive Reploid.
127.
128. After the war had ended, Zero decided to seal himself away again, this time, forever. Though X tried desperately to stop his friend, the sealing process had already begun when X arrived, and could not be stopped. Before he lost consciousness, Zero told X that, as long as he was still around, the bloody history would repeat itself over and over again. Before the seal was complete, he encouraged X that this was the right way and that he wanted to believe in human kind, just as X believed in them. With these final words, Zero's seal was complete. However, the sealing was also not eternal, and one hundred years later, he would be forced to awaken once again.
129.
130. At the beginning of the Mega Man Zero series, Zero was discovered in suspended animation in an abandoned laboratory by a human scientist named Ciel, who leads a band of Reploid freedom fighters. Ciel used the Cyber-elf Passy to revive Zero, who in turn saved Ciel from the forces of Neo Arcadia that was pursuing her and her comrades. Zero, however, was suffering memory loss due to "hibernation sickness." As it turned out, Neo Arcadia was the government of the world at this time period. Reploids were discriminated against and often deemed Maverick and terminated without justifiable cause. Copy X, a ruthless, conceited weaker clone of the real X, was in charge of this policy. Zero agreed to join Ciel's team in fighting this oppression of Reploids. Zero would then go on to defeat Copy X's 4 Guardians, Harpuia, Fefnir, Leviathan, and Phantom (who was destroyed for good), as well as destroying Copy X himself.
131.
132. After the battle with Copy X, Zero was declared missing by the Resistance, after the Neo Arcadian Core was destroyed. In truth, Zero is traveling in the desert (he apparently survived by jumping off Neo Arcadia Tower, as he was seen unconscious when Cyber-elf X was talking to him), where he spends one year evading the forces of Neo Arcadia before returning for the events of the second game.
133.
134. At the beginning of Mega Man Zero 2, Zero is still traversing the harsh desert, and still hunted by Neo Arcadia. After one battle with the Neo Arcadian Forces, Zero finally succumbs to his injuries, and collapses. When he wakes up, he is now in the new Resistance Base, brought there by unknown means (which was later revealed, oddly enough, to be Harpuia, in a bout of sympathy), and meets the new members, including a new commander, Elpizo.
135. Ciel showed Zero her research on energy, the former thinking that it will give Neo Arcadia a reason not to fight them anymore, as it would solve the world-wide crisis. Zero tried to hold off Elpizo's Operation Righteous Strike long enough for Ciel to finish her research, but in the end Elpizo still continued his plans, and Zero had to rescue him. Although Elpizo survived, he was driven to madness by the defeat, and Zero had to spend the larger half of the game trying to find him.
136. During the game, Zero also learned of what had happened before his sealing; Sigma and his Mavericks were defeated, but sometime after the Elf Wars broke out, Zero himself helped X to end them by defeating and banishing Omega, the most terrifying "Reploid" of the time. Several decades after Zero was sealed, X sacrificed his body to stop the worst Cyber-elf of all, the Dark Elf, leaving him in a more ethereal form. X's body is destroyed and the Dark Elf is released by the now-rogue Resistance commander, Elpizo. Zero defeats Elpizo, but the Dark Elf escapes. She and Zero appear to know each other, and X informs Zero that the Dark Elf was not always known by her current name. Her powers became a threat due to a curse by Dr. Weil, the man who started the Elf Wars, at which point people began calling her the Dark Elf.
137.
138. In Mega Man Zero 3, Zero, Ciel, and the resistance are traveling through a mountain, as while they were trying to locate the Dark Elf (presumably to end her curse), they found another energy signature resembling the Dark Elf located at the mountain. Upon arrival at the origin of the signal, they discover an immense ship. The Neo Arcadians had roped off the ship, so Zero decides to get a closer look by sneaking in. However, upon arrival, Ciel and the rest of the Resistance unit was discovered by the Neo Arcadians. they didn't seem to be killed though, thus confusing Zero. Harpuia then appears and says that he's letting them off the hook, as there's "bigger fish to fry". After Harpuia leaves, and Zero tries to figure out who the Dark Elf is and why she seemed familiar, Zero then hears a monstrous voice calling him. Upon arriving at the interior of the ship, Zero discovers that Fefnir and Leviathan, as well as their entire unit, was soundly defeated by an immense figure: Omega, the Devil "Reploid". Zero then realizes that Omega was the one who called him. The two then have a ferocious battle. Zero seems to defeat Omega and cause grievous damage, but then Omega started regenerating the wound. Harpuia then cuts in and is about to deliver the coup de grace when a mysterious man, Doctor Weil, tells Omega that he is to serve Harupia as an ally. Copy X MK II then appears and announces that he revoked Dr. Weil's exile.
139.
140. After a few missions, Zero and the resistance then learn that Neo Arcadia is planning to launch Omega into Area Z-3079, a human residential area to capture the Dark Elf. Zero then decides to infiltrate the Missile Facility and divert the missile carrying Omega. However, he wasn't able to stop the launch of the Missile. Not wanting to just let Neo Arcadia destroy a human population just to acquire the Dark Elf, he boards the Missile and infiltrates it to destroy Omega before the Missile arrives at its destination. Unfortunately, Dr. Weil had anticipated Zero's actions, so he had placed Crea and Prea on guard duty of Omega's chamber long before the launch. While he may have defeated them, they still bought the Omega Missile enough time to reach its target. Zero barely escapes the impact of the missile, and wakes up to see Omega absorbing the Dark Elf, and transforming. Harpuia, having been retired from his position of Neo Arcadia's military force, then attacks Omega in a last ditch effort to stop Weil and Omega, and protect humanity, even if it meant going against X. Unfortunately, thanks to Omega's absorbing the Dark Elf, Harpuia's attacks are ineffective at all. Zero manages to save Harpuia and himself at the last second by telling the Resistance to transport them back. Neo Arcadia then contacts the Resistance base, with Copy X saying they'll call a truce under the condition that they hand over the Ciel system. However, Ciel and the Resistance decline, as she doesn't trust them due to them destroying a human settlement just to get the Dark Elf. Their refusal results in an invasion with three units coming from the desert, the forest, and the Antarctic to attack the Resistance Base. Zero manages to take down the invasion, as well as destroying the newly resurrected Hanumachine, Anubis Necromancess, and Blizzack Staggroff. Afterwards, Zero infiltrates the main base of Neo Arcadia to stop the invasions once and for all. Zero then fights against Copy X Mark II after a debate about how things should be done. After the battle, the original X (in his Cyber-Elf from) approaches Copy X and reveals that Omega and Dr. Weil had used him to gain more power, and abandoned him. Copy X then attempts to transform into his second form, despite X's warnings about a device implanted into him, and is destroyed as a result. Dr. Weil then announces X's death to Neo Arcadia, claiming it to be the work of the Resistance, and evokes Ordinance 8 in order to become ruler.
141.
142. After a few more missions and collecting data, Zero learns from Ciel that Dr. Weil is planning on re-enacting the Elf Wars. Unfortunately, Dr. Weil and Omega then seize control of Neo Arcadia using the powers of the Dark Elf and Omega. Weil takes control of all the Reploids on the planet once more. X, however, uses his fading powers to protect the Reploids in the Resistance Base from Weil's control. Zero sets off to stop Weil, tracking him down to his secret laboratory, which incidentally, was close to where Zero was found at the beginning of the series.
143.
144. Zero is confronted by Omega, and the two do battle. After defeating two of Omega's forms, Zero lands with Omega's remains in the very room which he was sealed in. Weil then reveals that Zero is a fake, and that Omega is in fact the "real" Zero, and Zero's original body breaks out of the shell that was Omega's previous form. Zero, however, still defeats Omega Zero after an intense duel. When Weil attempts to heal Omega of his wounds with the Dark Elf, the remaining 3 Guardians appear and attack Omega. X himself appears alongside the Guardians, and told Zero of Weil's deception: that Omega may be using Zero's original body, but the "fake" Zero still has his real soul.
145.
146. So, regardless of Omega using his original body, Zero destroys him (presumably) once and for all, but Weil escapes. The Dark Elf, now free of her curse and called Mother Elf once more, roams free. However, X cannot roam in the real world any longer. Before X goes away, he tells an unconscious Zero to always protect peace between Reploids and humans, a promise Zero keeps up to heart in next game.
147.
148. Eight months after the destruction of Omega, Neo Arcadia remained under Weil's control. After Weil began to terminate humans who opposed him, several groups of humans escaped the city that used to be their utopia. When the Resistance received knowledge of this, they immediately dispatched a team to assist and protect the refugees. Zero, along with Ciel and a few other Resistance members, intercepted an assault team of Weil's Variant drones (remodeled Mechaniloid soldiers which had replaced the Pantheons) that attacked a refugee truck caravan. After countering the attack, Zero and Ciel met Neige, a human journalist who tried everything possible to both bring all people safely to their new refuge, Area Zero, and to find out the whole truth about Weil.
149.
150. The Variant attack, however, was just the beginning. Zero, while investigating Area Zero, encounters Craft and the Einherjar Warriors, who all serve directly under Dr. Weil. Craft tells Zero of Operation Ragnarok, a plan to destroy all inhabitable areas outside Neo Arcadia so no one can escape Dr. Weil's rule. Zero defeats 4 of the Einherjar one by one, and then repels an attack on Area Zero by Craft himself. The latter's objective was to kidnap Neige, who was an old friend of his. Zero rescues Neige from the prison Craft took her to, but not before Neige managed to push a little of her ideals back into her old friend.
151. Once all eight Warriors were defeated, Craft goes rogue and initiates a revolt against Weil on the space station "Ragnarok", aiming the stations powerful laser cannon to fire at Neo Arcadia. While the entire Resistance mobilize to evacuate the citizens of the city, Zero storms Ragnarok. Before he could reach him, however, Craft opens fire, destroying the city. Zero defeats and mortally wounds Craft. In his last breaths, Craft asks why Zero continues to fight for the humans that feared them. Zero says that he has a promise he has to keep for a friend, and that he believes in the humans that his friend trusts. Craft, repentant, asks Zero to continue living up to that promise, before shutting down for good.
152.
153. All is not well, however. Even though Dr. Weil was the target of Craft's attack, he actually survives, teleporting into Ragnarok and setting it to crash into Area Zero. Zero, after going through the defenses of Ragnarok, confronts Weil, and fights him in two battles. After the first battle, the space station is damaged and begins to fall to Earth. Ciel tells Zero that he can either return to Earth at that moment, or become stranded on the station due to increasing transporter interference. He passes the offer to come back and proceeds to finish Weil off in their second battle, ultimately sacrificing himself as the death of Weil's last form causes the station to. Zero's (final?) action opens the eyes of many, and brings peace between the Reploids and humans left on Earth. The aftermath, however, leaves his friends grieving at his apparent loss, especially Ciel, who later is inspired to pick up his work to create harmony between Reploids and humans, eventually constructing the Biometals.
154.
155. Or was he really dead? As Ragnarok fell, Zero passed out, and X was able to communicate with him one last time. X gave Zero the choice of becoming a Cyber-Elf and passing on to the afterlife, or going to other worlds to protect more people. Iris’ Cyber-Elf was also there, telling Zero that she could wait for him if he chose to stay alive. With both X and Iris’ support, Zero valiantly chose to be taken to another world. Unfortunately, X did not have enough power to repair Zero (who was heavily damaged from the final battle with Weil), but promised to take him somewhere where he could get repaired. Zero was transported to Twilight Town, in front of the Old Mansion, where he remained unconscious.
156.
157. Some quick notes:
158. *: The series was originally meant to end at X5, but Capcom made an X6 without the creator's permission, forcing Inafune to change some events in the Zero series.
159. **: How Zero exactly survived remains a mystery. He merely says he hid himself away so he could "heal".
160.
161.
162. Sample Post:
163. The battle had been fierce, to say the least. Omega was the most challenging opponent he had faced by far. Before the battle, Zero and Dr. Weil had engaged in the stereotypical banter, and the doctor had summoned Omega to fight. The God of Destruction had first used his normal form, using its gigantic beam weapon to try and crush Zero, shooting lasers that bounced off of the floor, and energy rings in an attempt to trap him.
164.
165. But the red Reploid had simply moved too fast, striking too quickly for Omega to get a chance to attack him. Zero used a pattern of falling back to charge his Z-Saber while evading Omega’s attacks, then going in for a quick, powerful strike. Eventually, the giant monstrosity looked defeated giving an angry roar, its floating arms falling.
166.
167. But Dr. Weil’s cackling voice once again came to life in the room.
168.
169. “Not bad, Zero. But Omega’s true power is much greater than you’ve been led to expect. Go get him, Omega! Release the power of the Dark Elf!”
170.
171. Omega gave another roar, before crashing through the floor. Nothing happened for a moment, but then a gigantic explosion came from the newly created hole. Zero shielded his eyes from the blast, and re-opened them to find himself on a falling platform, waves of fire and falling rocks coming down all around him.
172.
173. And then Omega rose from beneath him, even larger and more powerful than ever. It looked like some odd combination of him and X, on half blue, the other red. It had two heads, both resembling Zero and X. The red side held a titanic version of his beam saber, the other had an extremely large cannon attached to its arm.
174.
175. It didn’t seem to want to use its sword, mainly focusing and trying to blast Zero with a miasma of laser attacks. Some shot along the ground, some homed on him, and it even had one that fired from its monstrous cannon arm. Zero barely managed to duck under it.
176.
177. Luckily, the same strategy as the first battle worked. Dodge away, charge the Z-Saber, go in for the attack, repeat. Eventually, this too was defeated.
178.
179. The platform suddenly began falling out from underneath him, and his descent quickened. Luckily, the Reploid wasn’t too far from the ground, and managed to land safely. Zero looked about the new surroundings, not seeing Omega anywhere in sight. However, he was getting flashes of familiarity from the room. It seemed to be partially flooded, with dirty green water that was up to his ankles, and there was some sort of machine, destroyed, behind him.
180.
181.
182. “What is this place?” He asked himself. Suddenly, remembrance donned upon him, as he recalled where he had seen this before.
183.
184. “This is where I was sleeping.”
185.
186. It should have been so obvious from the start, really. But it had all moved so fast. Ciel had awakened him just as the Pantheon Drones had cornered her, and he was forced into action. He had helped her escape, and retrieved his Z-Saber from X, although Zero didn’t know it was him at the time.
187.
188. Suddenly, Weil’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
189.
190. “Hehehehe! Excellent, Zero! Your power is extraordinary... for a mere fake."
191.
192. “Fake?!”
193.
194. Zero’s question went unanswered as a bright light suddenly shone from a piece of wreckage. The hunk of metal exploded, debris flying everywhere. What was revealed inside was impossible to behold.
195.
196. Zero was looking at a complete copy… of himself.
197.
198. Its armor was a deeper shade of red, and designed somewhat differently, but there was no mistaking it was him.
199.
200. Weil cackled again. “You, the legendary Reploid? You fool! Those Resistance losers just decided to call the Reploid they found here “Zero” for some reason…”
201.
202. Zero looked on in shock as the other Zero grinned insanely.
203.
204. “You may be Zero, in a way, but you are still merely a copy. You’re no legendary hero at all. You’re just a reproduction! Heheheh… You thought you were a hero all along, didn’t you! Never suspecting that you were a mere copy. What a joke! Omega himself is the one and only, original Zero! You’re just a copy of him!”
205.
206. Zero shook his head. It couldn’t be… it was impossible. But the proof stared him right in the face. “The original Zero… Why is he your slave then?!” Even if he wasn’t the original, Zero had been a hero who fought for good. He would never side with someone as dastardly as Dr. Weil.
207.
208. “Hmph!” The evil scientist responded, “He’s a bloodthirsty God of Destruction, all I did was upgrade him to draw out all his power!” The madman laughed again. So; the original Zero was but a hollow shell now, nothing but an insane, destruction craving monstrosity now. It was left only with Wily’s original programming, the Dark Elf, and the Maverick Virus.
209.
210. “Alright Omega… or should I say “Original Zero”! Time to wake this pitiful fake from a century-long dream!”
211.
212. Omega drew his purple beam saber, laughing maniacally and glowing with some ancient and great power. It pointed the weapon straight at Zero, laughiung insanely, and saying with Zero’s own voice, "I am the messiah!” And the battle began. Omega was extremely powerful, one hit from its weapon was more draining to Zero then ten from someone as strong as Harpuia, but still he pushed through.
213.
214. It was hard, very hard. It was as if the two knew each other’s moves before they even made them. The sabers clashed against each other, and they dashed away from each other, before rushing in again for another attack.
215.
216. Both seemed to take equal damage, each time one managed to land a hit, the other seemed to immediately strike back just as strongly.
217.
218. And then something happened, even Zero wasn’t sure what. Maybe he was stronger than Omega, or maybe he just got lucky, but he managed to bring Omega down to its knees.
219.
220. But the God of Destruction wasn’t done yet. The Dark Elf appeared over its body, hovering in purple light.
221.
222. “You plan to… reactivate Omega?” Zero asked both Weil and the Dark Elf.
223.
224. Not waiting for an answer, he dashed forwards to finish off Omega, but he simply bounced off of a shield created by the former Mother Elf, also causing major damage to his already weakened systems. Zero gulped. He was helpless, and unable to attack. There was nothing he could do. Weil seemed to sense his trouble.
225.
226. “Hehehe… Watch, but don’t interfere. And don’t forget… I hold the lives of all humans and Reploids in my hand!”
227.
228. Zero could only grunt in pain.
229.
230. Omega stood back up, ready to finish Zero, but suddenly he was slashed by a figure in green armor, wielding to short beam sabers.
231.
232. “Zero! What are you doing?! Hurry, Stand up!” Harpuia yelled.
233.
234. Another person appeared behind Zero, firing large bolts of energy at Omega from the gigantic cannon on his arm.
235.
236. “Hey! I’m here to get a little payback, Omega!” Fefnir grunted.
237. Another flash and Leviathan stabbed Zero’s original body several times with her trident before being knocked back by the shield.
238.
239. “Time straighten the record!” She yelled.
240.
241. “You guys!” Zeros exclaimed in surprise. He hadn’t expected Neo Arcadia’s three Guardians to be here, much less even help him.
242.
243. “Weil is trying to bluff you!” Harpuia said. “He can’t do anything in his current state.”
244.
245. Weil’s voice appeared again, exclaiming in surprise. His plans were falling apart in front of his very eyes. “Argh! Dark Elf! Shut them up!” But the Dark Elf did not follow the mad scientists’ orders, flickering back to its gold hue. “Zeeeerrrooooo!” It yelled, trying to convey its message.
246.
247. “What is it, Dark Elf?!” He responded. Another glowing orb, smaller and light blue appeared, hovering over Zero.
248.
249. “Her…” It said, “The Dark Elf’s curse is fading…”
250.
251. “Who’s that! X?!” Weil exclaimed.
252.
253. “That’s right Weil, just like a century ago…” Replied the Cyber Elf of Megaman X. “I worked with Zero to defeat this Omega then… and we saved the world from your greedy clutches.”
254.
255. “Just like… a century ago?” Zero asked, looking up at X. Pieces of his memory were still missing, due to the hybernation sickness.
256.
257. “The defeated Omega is using your original body. That’s all… Your current body may be a copy… but your heart is the real thing. All right, now’s the time. While the Dark Elf’s power is weak. Time to finish what you started a century ago, Zero!”
258.
259. Despite all of Zero’s pain, all his bruises and cuts, despite all the gaping holes in his armor revealing the circuitry underneath, Zero stood, fighting through the pain, like he had always done.
260.
261. “Zero! Don’t do it!” Weil yelled, trying to dissuade Zero. “That’s your original body! Don’t you feel any attachment?! Are you really prepared to spend the rest of your life in that cheap fake?!”
262.
263. “You can do it.” X encouraged calmly. “You know what’s truly important. Go on, Zero!”
264. There was no hesitation.
265.
266. Zero limped, slowly, towards Omega. He stood in front of his original body, and mustered the strength to raise his Z-Saber over his head. He brought it down, cleaving Omega in two.
267.
268. The God of Destruction was no more.
