- Hastur, the King in Yellow, The Feaster from Afar, the Repairer of Reputations, is an elder god who takes many forms, chief among them a shriveled mummy wrapped in golden cloth.
- Additional forms are thus:
- A black, shriveled, corpse that floats and twitches in the air.
- A golden ram with starry eyes.
- A young goldblood, nude with a crown and scepter. The yellow sign is tattooed all across his body in interlocking knots.
- Hastur is rare amongst the elder gods in his interest for culture and arts. Those gods capable of sentience despise him for his strange obsession of being worshiped by the rough equivalent of gerbils. Through history he has planted his name and symbols in many cultures, filled with pride as he's worshiped for many things. Some might see him as a saint in a clown cult, or a lowblood ideologue, or one of the many mirthful messiahs. A select few works capture his interest, as they make trolls aware of his true nature. Communing with Hastur is the equivalent of informing a prideful elder god you know his secrets.
- The Yellow Sign is one of them, as it functions as a navigational tool to his extradimensional city, Carcosa. Actually trying to navigate there will inevitably attract his attention for the worse.
- The King in Yellow, an odd screenplay, is yet another. Its current incarnation is a stage play that informs the audience of Hastur's true nature. This inevitably summons Hastur, providing curses and boons for all involved.
- The third must be done alone. It is the chanting of his name while knowing his true form and intentions. "Hastur, Hastur, Hastur!". This is the most dangerous of all, as names are important to Hastur, and he believes you have no right to utter it.
- Sacrifices:
- 1. Uttering his name three times (This provides a special, severe, curse, but is the fastest way of summoning him), while understanding the true nature of Hastur and his intentions.
- 2. Performance of The King in Yellow (This can be done accidentally, much to the regret of many actors and directors).
- 3. The Yellow Sign, scrawled on a map.
- 4. A ram, skinned and stuffed with a priceless work of art, preferably an original edition of something. Hastur will walk out of the fire in the form of the slaughtered ram (see above).
- Boons:
- 1. The caster may speak up to three languages of their choosing, no matter whether or not the language is extinct or specific to a certain group. This allows them to translate ancient texts, speak with specific groups, understand untranslated works from other continents or planets, etc.
- 2. The caster becomes an incredible sculptor, painter and sketch artist, with the ability to form all sorts of concepts and beauty into being through these mediums. They are guaranteed to gain cultural importance and fame through their skill.
- 3. The caster gains knowledge on how to groom others to be their most beautiful selves; the caster has incredible knowledge regarding makeup application techniques, skincare techniques, hair styling techniques, fashion and the most appropriate way to dress another person, etcetera. Those the caster dresses and grooms become as beautiful as they can through natural means. The caster may also craft incredible works of art fashion-wise, and becomes a master seamstress and designer.
- 4. The caster is capable of forcing others to keep their (the caster's or the victim's) secrets by pressing two fingers to someone's mouth and speaking what they want to be kept private (consent or psionic roll depending on situation). Intent is what matters, not spoken word--if someone says 'keep my love life secret', meaning their affairs with numerous quadrants, yet the person casted on views it or attempts to view it as 'only keep my RED quadrants secret, I didn't say my hate life', *intent wins* (they must keep all affairs with numerous quadrants secret). The caster cannot do this in a way which seriously impedes someone's ability to function as a person (mods' discretion) and one person can only be forced to keep three secrets at a time maximum (unless player consent is given.)
- Special Curse: The character will have no media record. Videos starring them will be corrupted, drawings of them will be smeared and unrecognizable, details about them will be forgotten when the author tries to write them down. This is the end result of using Hastur's name, the complete destruction of yours.
- Curses:
- 1. The caster loses their creative ability in one field--the character may forget how to play an instrument they could previously play, the caster may forget how to paint, the caster may forget a language they could previously speak. (Mod discretion may be used along with player opinion.)
- 2. The caster is incapable of lying about their romantic feelings for anyone. If they are asked directly by someone regarding their *romantic* feelings for anyone else, they must immediately divulge any pale, pitch or red affection they may hold. (They do not need to be overly descriptive, but will feel compelled to tell the precise quadrant-aligned type of affection, and will also divulge any quadrants they are currently involved in.)
- 3. The caster loses their ability to speak one language. If they can only speak one language, then they are rendered mute, only capable of communicating through written word, sign language, etcetera.
- 4. The caster is unable to discern something of high quality from something low quality within any form of art. The caster's opinions on all media becomes objectively awful. Any movies which have low reviews from audiences, they will adore; any recipe that is critically panned will taste delicious to the caster. Da Vinci's greatest works pale in comparison to a large piece of tinfoil taped to a stick outside of the local Great Value.
- 5. The caster cannot stand the sound of music and must cover their ears/attempt to muffle the noise in any way until the music ceases.
- 6. The caster cannot recall details about any book they've read, any piece of art they've looked at, or any song they've listened to prior to this curse taking effect. While they may have a vague concept that they read a play revolving around fairies, they cannot spak on any specifics of the play, and may even mess up the subject of the play, cannot recall the title, etc.
- 7. The caster entirely forgets a fact about themselves that they have been keeping a secret. If they have been having an affair and have been hiding this from others, they forget that they were having said affair, they lose their attraction for their affair partner, etc. *Mod discretion and explanation applies.* If somehow not applicable (very unlikely), reroll.
- 8. The caster loses all desire to create in any way; the caster is unable to bring themselves to draw, write, perform music, etcetera.
